Story
Mitzvah is a previous rescue pet who was abused before we rescued him. He is very loving and kind to his pack. While he is suspicious of new people, he warms up with time and attention. We are moving and are unable to take him, but whatever home he is welcomed to will be happy with the big, loving heart that he has.

Story
Frida Pawlo (AKA Frida Kalo) is a 2-year-old, 11lb Chihuahua mix as smart and colorful as her name suggests—a true little muse in a tiny package! Frida was found as a stray with her one-week-old puppy and brought to the Downey Animal Shelter. With no microchip and no one coming to claim her, Shelter Hope took her in and placed her in the safety of foster care, where she lovingly raised her pup like the devoted mama she is. Now that her puppy has found a forever home of her own, it’s Frida’s turn to shine! Frida is sweet, observant, and incredibly affectionate. She absolutely adores being in your arms and will happily leap into them for some love. Whether she’s cuddling close or keeping a careful watch on her surroundings, Frida is always tuned in to her people. She’s great with kids, and loves to play with other dogs and toys. She is also clever, and quite springy too! She would do best in a home with a tall secure fence. Now fixed, vaccinated and microchipped, Frida is ready for her second chance. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Frida Pawlo is your girl! More from her foster: Little Miss Frida first and foremost is the sweetest snuggle bug. If you sit down she will be on your lap within moments. She is mostly potty trained and understands uhuh. She is learning to be crate trained for when no one is home as it is essential for her. She has been known to chew on things that are not hers and will also take any opportunity to eat food left out. *Now for the good stuff! She is attentive so she can easily be trained. Very food motivated. Frida loves to tossle with other dogs and chew on toys. She will chase after toys but no return. She does not seem to be prey driven as she has not even looked twice at our free ranging chickens. You do not need a doorbell as she will tell you when someone is around. She also leaps while running. It's really cute. Did I mention what a sweet snuggle bug she is? Oh and those expressive eyes that quietly call you to pet her. She is amazing. —---- Looking to Adopt? Story
Hauji is a sweet girl ready for her second chance. Sadly, for the first six months of her life, her previous owners kept her in a box in a backyard, with little attention or love. After that, she was cared for by another family for another six months before being ultimately surrendered to Shelter Hope to find a new home. Hauji is around 1 year old and weighs about 11 pounds. She is a Chihuahua mix with a soulful, gentle personality. At first, Hauji was timid and didn’t let anyone touch or approach her, but she has since come around and is learning to enjoy attention and affection. She’s starting to like being picked up and held, and her loving, friendly nature shines more every day. Hauji is good with other dogs and loves spending time with people. She’s curious, gentle, and easygoing, making her a perfect companion for someone patient and loving who wants to help her continue to blossom. Hauji is ready to find her forever home, where she can feel safe, cherished, and loved for the first time in her life. ------ Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Story
Melrose’s story begins in a park in Los Angeles, just after the heavy rain we received last month. Someone had abandoned her in a box with her six puppies. She has no collar, tag, or microchip. Thankfully, Shelter Hope stepped in and gave this devoted mama the safety she so deeply deserved. Melrose went into foster care, where she did an incredible job raising all six of her boys. Now, Melrose is finally ready to find a home of her own. Melrose is a 3-year-old Chihuahua–Dachshund mix weighing about 22 pounds. She is very loving, affectionate, friendly, outgoing, and easygoing, with a gentle, sweet nature. She loves to cuddle, enjoys belly rubs, and is food motivated. She’s playful and smart, and she enjoys exploring the yard. Melrose uses a doggie door and is making great progress with her potty training. She’s also a bit of a jumper and climber, with a curious, adventurous spirit. She’s great with kids and other dogs, loves her bed, enjoys chew sticks, and settles in nicely when it’s time to relax. After everything she’s done for her puppies, Melrose is ready to be someone’s baby. She’s looking for a forever home where she can be spoiled, snuggled, and loved for the rest of her life. ------ Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Story
Meet Oliver Twist, a pint-sized Chihuahua with a whole lot of personality packed into just 5 tiny pounds. He is a 5-year-old Chi who may be small, but he definitely knows who he is. Oliver was found wandering the streets of Compton with no collar and no microchip. A kind Good Samaritan took him in and searched for his owner, but after being posted on Nextdoor and receiving no responses, it became clear that no one was coming for him. Once his stray hold was complete, Oliver was brought to Shelter Hope so he could have the best chance at finding the forever home he deserves. When he arrived, it was clear that life on the streets had taken its toll. His nails were badly overgrown and his teeth were in need of a good cleaning. Since then, Oliver has received the TLC he needed, including a dental and neuter, and he has been thriving in foster care. His foster says he is a great boy who has truly settled in and begun to show his true colors. Oliver is a sweet boy with lots of spunk! He likes to use his voice to express himself and has a little spice to his attitude, but it is all talk. Beneath that tough-guy act is a charming, endearing little dog who just wants to feel safe and respected. Now fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, Oliver Twist is ready for a home that will appreciate his sass, understand his signals, and love him for exactly who he is. He is proof that the best things really do come in small, spicy packages. —---- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers.
