Story
Presenting Minnow! Minnow is a feisty and fearless little lady available for adoption. Brought to a local veterinary hospital by Animal Control after being hit by a car, Minnow was unable to walk. The hospital staff lovingly cared for Minnow as she healed. They thought they were going to lose her a couple of times but this little lady has a big spirit and zest for life! Her teeth say she's around 8, but her mind thinks she's a kid. Minnow loves stuffed animals and is very playful. She is slow to warm up to new people and is pretty independent but would love to be a lap dog. Minnow would do best in a home where someone is there all the time. She is approximately 8 years old and less than 10 pounds, spayed, vaccinated microchipped. We think she's a cross between a Chihuahua and Dachshund.

Story
Handsome Brando is a 14lb, 13 year old Chiweenie (chihuahua/Dachshund mix) who looks fantastic in a bowtie. He loves walks, belly rubs, and love & attention from his human. He takes a little while to warm up to other dogs and cats, but he does well with them once he does! He currently lives with other dogs and a cat and does well with them. He is house trained. Brando and does well with people with slow introductions. Once he knows you, hes a cuddly sweet guy who wants to be by your side and loves you! Because he can be "moody" when meeting new people, he just needs a little patience and understanding until he can open up and show his true, loving personality.

Story
Amelia (Mia) is a very gentle, quiet and well behaved little lady. She is active, entertaining and curious but not a barker. Amelia loves to lay in the sun so a yard is mandatory for her. She would also like to sleep in bed with you at night. Once past the hurdle of her natural shyness with people who are new to her, Mia is friendly and extremely affectionate. She loves to be cuddled and would like to be a lapdog. Mia may be initially shy and skittish so she will need some patience. It took her about three months to really come out of her shell and become comfortable and confident in her foster home. As soon as she warms up to you though she wants to be your little shadow. Amelia would prefer a quiet household without much food traffic and no small children. It would be great if there is another calm dog in the household already since Mia loves to cuddle up to her doggy friends whenever possible. While Mia is housebroken, she does still need attention paid to make sure she is let out of the house to relieve herself. She will use training pads in the house if necessary. Mia is about 9 years old, she weighs 9 lbs., she is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her shots. Our vet assumes that she is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix.

Story
SHORTY is a lovely cream/blond color, 9 pound, senior boy Deer Head Chihuahua (about 12 years) whose senior human dad passed away, leaving Shorty and his four little girl companions, Cookie, Millie, Poopsy, and Missy, without their dad. They all get along really well, are house trained, and also know to use pads to do their business indoors, and at night, and when it's raining or very cold out. They are not barkers, only barking to warn that someone is at or near the front door, and then they settle down again. They are great with cats because their housemates have been six (6) cats! If shown a lot of affection and understanding when welcomed into their new homes, we are sure these lovely kiddos will do well in a loving new home even if they don’t stay together. IMPORTANT NOTE: Recently the number of deaths from hungry coyote attacks has greatly increased. Coyotes can climb 10 foot fences with a small to medium sized dog in their jaws. This happens in broad daylight in the middle of the day, and on trails while hiking with your dog on a leash, it is truly unbelievable, and we have frightening first-hand accounts. We are listing these lovely pups to help their current foster/rescue in finding them wonderful new homes. Shorty is neutered, all four girl pups are spayed, and all of them current on vaccines. To learn more about Shorty (or Cookie, Millie, Poopsy, and Missy), please contact us at: theanimalsleftbehind@socal.rr.com (also our PayPal email for donations and sponsorships).

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This is Cafecito. He was hit by a car and probably lived on the street before he came to the clinic. Because of this past, he often marks things. He was most likely mistreated by men in the past as he growls and barks at them. It can take some time for him to warm up to a new person. He loves pets once he trusts you, and likes company. He looks like a long sausage dog! He had to have a few hip surgeries because of the incident with the car. Long term he might favor his back leg, but that doesn’t stop him from exploring!
