Story
Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, the often become very bonded.OTHER PETS: Bear was tolerant and relaxed when introduced to another dog, and even tried to initiate play. She would likely match best with a dog that can match her energy and respect her space when she wants it. [Likely (With proper introduction)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Bear would do best with someone that has experience helping timid dogs adjust to new environments with patience and positive reinforcement. [Some Experience]KIDS: Bear is a timid dog and isn't a fan of fast movements or loud, sudden noises. She would likely do best in a home with older kids that can understand how to interact with her and when to let her have her own space. [12+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: While Bear has been more of a lap dog during her stay at TJO, but has shown some interest in toys and loves to run with her favorite people! It's possible that her energy level may increase once she's settled in her new home and comfortable with the people around her. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Bear is still at the beginning of her training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Bear not only learn her basic cues, but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well. [Moderate]GROOMING: Bear will do well with routine brushing in order to maintain her specific coat type and to prevent any matts from forming. Given time and positive reinforcement, she may also do well for professional grooming to help shape up her `scruffy` look. [Routine Brushing]January 2, 2026, 2:18 pm

Story
Ms. Precious — there truly couldn’t be a more fitting name for this sweet little soul   Ms. Precious is a 12-pound apple-head Chihuahua, about 4 years old, with the gentlest heart. She adores being part of a family and enjoys the company of both humans and other animals. Her early life lacked the love and attention she deserved, so when she first arrived in foster care, she needed a little extra TLC and patience to learn that people could be trusted. Once she did, she never looked back—and now she’s a happy, affectionate girl who loves deeply.   She’s fully vaccinated and spayed. Vet visits were scary for her at first due to past experiences, but with a muzzle and reassurance she handled it well, and she continues to grow more confident as her trust builds.   Ms. Precious does well with both dogs and cats, though she can be a bit intimidated by more dominant animals and benefits from gentle reassurance. She is incredibly sweet, calm, and soft-natured. She spent most of her life using potty pads, but she can go outside and has already shown that with consistency and routine, she can be housebroken. She’s smart, eager, and absolutely trainable.   She may bark at tall men initially—tail wagging the whole time—clearly wanting to be friends but needing a little time to feel safe. With proper introductions and patience, she warms up beautifully. She loves toys, happily lines up for treats with the rest of the pack, and is not a picky eater at all. She seems grateful for everything, big or small.   Ms. Precious loves to snuggle and would happily stay right by her person’s side, though she also does fine on her own during quiet time. She will make an incredible companion for someone ready to give her the love she’s always deserved. Give her a chance, and she’ll repay you with endless devotion, gratitude, and a whole lot of heart—for her furever home.   ##2616063##

Story
Meet Dory A Sweet Survivor Looking for Her Fresh Start Hi, I’m Dory — a 2 to 3-year-old, 15-pound pup with a soft heart and a gentle spirit. I was rescued by The Sato Project from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Manatí, Puerto Rico, where I lived in a home with over 30 other dogs. It was a tough start to life, but I’m finally safe, healthy, and beginning to discover what love and kindness feel like. When I was rescued, my skin was in rough shape, but I’ve been getting medical baths and special care, and I’m healing more every day. My transformation has already begun — and it’s only going to get better from here. I’ll be flying into Morristown, NJ around November 8th, and I’m hoping the next chapter of my life begins with a patient, loving family who understands that I may be a little timid at first. Because of my past, I’ll need a calm, understanding home that will give me time to feel safe and secure. With gentle guidance, I’ll show you just how sweet and loyal I can be. A quiet environment — maybe with another kind dog to help me build confidence — would be a perfect match. If you're looking for a dog who truly deserves a second chance and will love you with her whole heart, I'm ready. Let’s heal and grow together.
