Story
Meet Happy, the sweetest little Chihuahua mix you'll ever encounter! This adorable guy was found wandering the streets, so we don't have much information about his past, but what we do know is that he's an absolute charmer. Happy loves people and is always eager to make new friends. Whether you're lounging on the couch or out for a walk, he'll be right by your side, wagging his tail and spreading joy. Speaking of walks, they're one of his favorite activities. Happy is always up for a stroll around the neighborhood and does great on a leash. He also gets along well with other small dogs, making him a potential perfect playmate if you already have a furry friend at home. We haven't had the chance to see how he interacts with cats. Happy prefers a home with older children who understand how to interact with animals and be gentle. We're not sure if he's house trained, but with a bit of patience and training, Happy is sure to fit right in. If you're ready to adopt within the next 24-48 hours and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways: Come in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30p-3:00p. For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt! **OR** Click on the pink "Adopt me" button to submit an adoption inquiry. Watch your email for a response from us! Adopting through this process will take several days and highly desirable pets are likely to no longer be available. PLEASE NOTE: Adoption inquiries are not holds or reservations. Pets are adopted by the first person we talk with who is a good match for the pet's needs. Multiple inquiries are accepted for each pet. All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.

Story
Dolly is what we call a `Chicken Little Dog.` Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, the often become very bonded.OTHER PETS: Dolly is calm with other dogs and attempts to solicit play appropriately. She would likely get along with other dogs but to ensure a good match any dogs that Dolly would be living with should meet her prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with very frightened dogs would be a plus but the most important thing Dolly will need is patience. With support from her owner (such as engaging in positive reinforcement training) she will begin to warm up to them and start working on building an amazing trust bond. [Some Experience]KIDS: Dolly should live in an adults-only household. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Dolly is very cautious of new environments. Once she settles into her new home, is comfortable with her surroundings and is building trust with her owner, neighborhood walks would be appropriate. Prior to that, it is more important to work on building trust with Dolly than getting her `out to exercise` - she is more relaxed outdoors so supervised playtime with a drag leash in a fenced yard would be appropriate. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Dolly build her confidence and bond with her new owner as well as ensuring that she has a mastery of basic cues and skills. The trust built during positive training will help Dolly and her new owner work through future challenges together, and ongoing positive training will continue to improve Dolly's confidence. Story
Beatrice has been making friends since coming to TJO and her favorite friends are the ones who lat her sit in their laps the most. She is social and outgoing, and can't wait to meet anyone who might have a lap she can snuggle into.OTHER PETS: Beatrice has been staying in an administrative office with other dogs and does well with other calm dogs, of similar size and larger. Beatrice is not a fan of high energy dogs, she will growl and back away from them. To ensure Beatrice has a great roommate experience, she should meet any dogs she would be living with prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] KIDS: Beatrice is very much a lap dog and adores getting pets, she is curious and likes to explore but she always wants to be held afterwards. She would be a great match for young humans who like playing with dogs but understand the dogs themselves are not toys. [10+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: While Beatrice loves to cuddle, she also loves climbing and has been practicing on the office furniture - don't let her ninja skills surprise you! She may be open to a neighborhood walk from time to time when not engaging in indoor parkour, and does engage in play for brief periods of time. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Beatrice bond with her new owner as well as ensuring she has a mastery of basic commands and behavorial expectations. Story
Bruiser is a dignified older gentleman who enjoys contemplating life's mysteries and listening to the music of the wind. He is looking for a place where he can keep doing his own thing and not have to worry about needy humans who crave his attention all the time. OTHER PETS: Bruiser is happy doing his own thing but would likely get along with other dogs who were calm and respectful of each other's space. To ensure a good fit, Bruiser should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] KIDS: Bruiser is calm and is comfortable with handling, he will likely get along with any size of human but to ensure a good match Bruiser should meet any minor humans he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Bruiser enjoys feeling sunshine as much as he enjoys a comfy couch nap. He might not be up for a walk every day, but he would definitely enjoy the opportunity to turn down a walk every day on the off chance he does want to go exploring. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Bruiser is an older gentleman so he is already entering the part of his timeline where he will need the regular support of a vet to ensure he has as comfortable a life as possible. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Bruiser bond with his new owner, as well as helping keep his mind active and engaged and ensuring he remembers his basic commands and behavorial recommendations. Story
Anndalina 10 YEARS OLD. Chi mix. black with white, no kids, no cats, okay with some dogs, basics of potty training. Needs fenced in yard and no apartments. Anndalina came to us as an emergency surrender. This poor girl was trying to chew her tail off and needed emergency treatment. We rushed her into our vet and it was determined her tail would need to be amputated to prevent any infection from spreading. We whisked her into surgery and brought her back to one of our foster homes. Anndalina has had a rough beginning to her life and she will need a patient and understanding home to help her become the dog we know she can be. We would recommend she go to a child free home and a home where her Chihuahua bark will not be a problem. A nice quiet couple or single person would be the ideal place for her as she can become overwhelmed with too many visitors. Once she bonds to her people she is very affectionate but it will take a while for this nervous girl to settle into any new home and she will need to be given time to calm and adjust. Please note we do not have a central kennel facility, all of our pets are located in foster homes. The first step in meeting one of our furry friends is to fill out an application on our website at www.rainbowrescues.org. A volunteer will be in contact with you in 1-2 business days to review your application and speak with you about the adoption process. **Please be aware that we are not responsible for inaccurate information on some cross-posted sites such as inaccurate adoption fees and inaccurate pet info.**July 10, 2024, 8:00 am
