Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Victoria is a gorgeous, midnight black chihuahua mix.  She is approximately 4 years old and originally came into rescue with 4 very tiny puppies.  Victoria was a street dog, fighting each day for her survival and the survival of her pups.  Living by her wits and trusting no one except herself and her own instincts.   Once Victoria’s ups were adopted into their forever homes, her own anxiety and fear became apparent.  We decided to hold off on her adoption to spend some time with her one-on-one.  She did not trust humans.  She would not allow anyone to come near here, touch or pert her.  She had to be chased and cornered to do something as simple as applying flea medication. This was highly traumatic and stressful to her as well as her foster mom.   With much time and attention, Victoria has shown amazing improvement.  She is not a “normal” dog and most likely never will be.  The scars of the street are healed, but are obviously still present.  She will be successful in the right forever home with the right family.  Patience and love are the name of the game.   Vitoria does like attention – on her own terms.  She does not want to be held & cuddled – but she may curl up next to you or hang over your shoulder from her perch on the back of the couch.  She enjoys being petted behind her ears and having her neck scratched.  If you try to get down close to kiss the top of her head – she bolts like lightning.  She has learned the stay command when being leashed for travel or when you must reach her to apply flea meds.    “Morning Victoria” is a sight to behold and a joy to experience.  Victoria will sleep on the bed and when she sees you are awake, she will come over for pets & a little bit of cuddling.  It is like she is a completely different dog! She will drape herself over your body for a booty scratch and arch her neck so you can reach her.  Once you move to get out of bed, “Morning Victoria” is gone, just like darkness disappearing with the sunrise.  We feel that “Morning Victoria” is the dog Victoria was meant to be, had she not suffered through her street life and the hardships that damaged her original self. The fact that we are able to glimpse this part of her personality each morning is truly a gift.   Victoria is virtually housebroken.  She goes potty outside and uses potty pads while her foster mom is at work.  She sleeps through the night without issue.  Please know that there may be accidents when she moves into her forever home.  It will be very stressful for her, and she may fall back into some of the fear she experienced while on the street.  So many new things at once can be overwhelming, even for humans.  Once again – patience is required here.  She has the ability to be a magnificent dog, but her family has to have the patience to grant her the grace to move forward.   Victoria is not fond of children.  They move too fast and can be loud & unpredictable.  They terrify her.  She will warm to strangers slowly.  She does love other dogs and to see her running & playing makes you forget for a minute that she has any issues at all.  A playful, confident dog will be mandatory in Victoria’s forever home.  It brings her so much joy – and after all she has been through, she deserves every ounce of joy she can get.   Victoria has a strong prey drive – beware all rabbits and squirrels and low-flying birds!  She will stalk and then give chase.  She has never caught anything, but her will is strong and she is ultra-focused when something is in her sights.  In her foster home, sometimes crashing right into the fence is the only thing that has stopped her pursuit, which further enforces the requirement for Victoria to have a fenced yard.   Despite working with her, Victoria does not like the leash.  She will alligator roll, perhaps walk a few steps to get you to lower your guard, but she is truly looking for an escape route.  She is as fast as a bullet and if she gets loose, she is gone baby gone.  Victoria is considered a flight risk and will require a well-maintained, physically strong, minimum 5 ft tall fenced in yard.  No invisible fences can be considered.   If you have an adults-only home, another playful pup, a secure yard and lots of patience and love – please consider Victoria.    Victoria is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $350Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 25, 2023, 9:23 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Another one of our "Z" Crew pups is available!  This little family was found living in a shed in Texas.  This little guy is Zuko - he is about 4 months old and weighs 10 pounds currently.  Zuko is a typical puppy - full of fun and mischief! He is very happy playing with his siblings and loves to be outside.  He is smart and learned some house rules right away!  He figured out stairs off the bat and can fly in and out to the yard in a blink of an eye.  Zuko is getting the concept of housetraining and is doing well -especially first thing in the morning.  But he has been using a potty pad also.  He is still a baby so this will have to be followed up with in his new home.  Zuko has a fully fenced yard in his foster home as he is not leash trained.  He is crate trained though and will often snuggle up with one of his family to keep warm! Zuko spent most of his life outdoors with little to no contact with people.  He is still nervous when his foster mom approaches him but he is learning he is safe and loved.  He sees the other dogs getting all kinds of affection and we are gaining his trust on being picked up.  He will need some time and patience as he adjusts to a new home and family.  Another dog would be great but not required at this point.  Zuko is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated. His adoption fee is $400  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 25, 2023, 9:23 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lovely Lita Marie is ready to find her forever home! Lita is a breeder surrender who came into rescue over the winter.  She gave birth to many gorgeous puppies – how could they be anything but gorgeous?  Look at her! – but that time is over.  She is done being a mom, and now she needs to focus on herself for a change.  She has earned it.   Lita is a 5-year-old long-hair chihuahua.  She is the colors of a summertime campfire s’more: white as a fluffy marshmallow, golden graham crackers, and streaks of milk chocolate.  Due to her long hair, she will need to be brushed daily.  At this point, Lita has learned to “trust the brush” and sits quietly while her foster mom brushes her during the early morning news.  She has had multiple teeth removed, but her canines are in place.  Due to the missing teeth, you will sometimes find her with the tip of her tongue poking out or her lip stuck up on one of the front teeth in a classic Elvis Presly type sneer.  She is able to eat without issue – her foster mom does put a little warm water over her kibble just to make sure things go smoothly at mealtime.   Lita is still shy and skittish with strangers.  She has come leaps & bounds since she first arrived – now she usually stays in the room with new people and will eventually work her way over to them for an investigating sniff and perhaps allow some chin scratches.  She doesn’t like any hands over her head, so when you are petting, start with her chin.  An ear scratch is certainly on her menu of favorite things, but you must work your way into that on her timetable.  Lita will allow you to hold her in your lap.  She will shake at first but eventually you will feel her tiny body unclench, and she will begin to relax and sometimes fall asleep. She has had very little experience with human touch – she is starting to learn that human touch does not have to always equal pain and fear – it can be pleasurable, and she is easing into allowing that to be part of her life.  Lita is not a nuisance barker, but if she hears something outside, she will make sure that her family heard it too.  She will bark, dance, and chase her tail when it is time to eat.  This little girl LOVES her food!    Lita is not leash trained – and attempts to teach her how to walk on a leash have been met with big resistance and a notable increase in her stress.  Given how much she has gone through, we are not interested in stressing her further.  She may (or may not) have the capacity to learn how to walk on a leash in the future, but it will be on her terms when – and if – SHE is ready.  Due to this fact, Lita will require a fenced in yard in her forever home.   Lita is still working on housebreaking.  She knows to go potty outside – and loves to be outside!  It may take her a while…she will sniff every leaf and investigate every flower, tree, and shrub.  And she will pee a tiny bit on each, just to show others she has been there.  Her foster mom works, so potty pads are available throughout the house.  Sometimes she uses them.  Other times, there are accidents when her foster mom gets home.  In her previous life, there was no need for her to monitor where or when went potty.  She just went potty in her cage when she needed to.  This new life has both wonderful and exciting experiences, but also rules and responsibilities that can be frightening and confusing.  She HAS made much progress since coming to us.  But she will need grace and patience to continue on her journey.  There will be accidents in her new home as she adjusts to new rules and the expectations of a new home, please understand she is trying.  She will need love, support and patience.  She is a beautiful, curious, affectionate (in her own way), cuddly (in her own way) fluffy fur ball that was wronged by humans from the very beginning of her life.  She is just realizing that there are other options out there for her life – ones that include a soft bed to sleep on, other dogs to play with, freshly cut grass to roll in (the grass was a HUGE hit!! She played like a puppy, rolling around until she looked like a combination of the Grinch & Oscar the Grouch) …she is thrilled and terrified at the same time.   Lita would do well with another small, confident dog in her home.  She needs someone to learn from and be a companion to her.  Another option would be family who worked from home or were retired.  She should not be left all alone for an entire workday.  Her nature is skittish and slightly nervous, leaving her alone would only make that worse.  If children were present in Lita’s forever home, they would need to be older children who understand her history, move slowly when around her, and quietly give her the chance to know and trust them before they attempt to hold or cuddle her.  Lita has not been tested on cats.   Lita Marie is on the brink of a brand-new life.  One that has no cages, no mandatory puppies, no crowded and potentially dangerous conditions.  The entire world is opening up to her – it will be exciting for her, as well as the family that has chosen to give her this opportunity.  What an amazing gift to watch her blossom into the dog she was always meant to be!  Lita is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $400Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 25, 2023, 9:23 pm
