Story
Ladies, here is the man for you... he prefers women over the male species and is a typical chihuahua who is loyal to his person. He is good with dogs his size. He is around 10 years old and needs a loving home for his senior years. If you understand those sweet chi personalities and think Bo might be your man, please read on. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home. Story
Meet Laurie Laurie is a 2½-year-old Chihuahua/terrier mix with a sweet, fox-like face and a gentle, shy nature. She warms up slowly, but once she trusts you, she becomes a total cuddle bug who loves blankets, lap time, and even offers her little paws for pets. She’s been great with other dogs and did well around a 4-year-old child. Laurie sleeps quietly through the night (bed or crate), rarely barks, eats well, and takes her meds easily. She’s still gaining confidence, so leash walking hasn’t started yet, but she does well with a steady potty routine. Laurie would do well as an only dog or with a friendly companion—she just needs a patient, loving home where she can blossom.   Applications can be filled out at http://www.piedmontanimalrescue.com/adopt!  Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet does NOT send us Applications. We receive many applications and many never respond after processing GREATLY delaying the pets forever home.  Please only apply if you are serious about adopting.  Please also make sure your pets are up to date on you species applicable Vaccines (rabies, Distemper/Parvo, FVRCP, Bordetella), spayed/neutered, and on Heartworm prevention if a canine. The adoption fee includes their age appropriate vaccinations(DA2PP and Bordetella), Dewormer, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test as well as the registration of their microchip information to you.The first step to adopting is to fill out an application for adoption. Story
Meet Nicki! Nicki is a tiny 6-year-old chihuahua with a sweet personality and an even sweeter heart. She loves warm laps, cozy blankets, and supervising her humans from the comfort of her favorite pillow or in her crate. Nicki walks through life with a bit of caution until she knows her surroundings and gets comfortable.  Whether she’s sunbathing, begging for treats with her signature head tilt, or curling up for a nap, Nicki brings warmth, and joy  to everyone she meets. She’s proof that the best things really do come in small, adorable packages.   Applications can be filled out at www.piedmontanimalrescue.com/adopt! The adoption fee includes their age appropriate vaccinations(DA2PP and Bordetella), Dewormer, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test as well as the registration of their microchip information to you. Story
Chico came to us after his owner had a health crisis and was no longer able to care for him. He spent nearly his entire nine years with the same people, in the same home, and such a sudden change is hard for any dog-- but Chico is resilient and doing well in his foster home. In his foster home, Chico has had the opportunity to get out an about more, and he feels pretty cool riding in a backpack! He'll grumble a little when he meets new people and dogs, but he's just talking, and he gets over it quickly. He's spent his whole life around kids and another dog, so we expect he'll be fine in a home with kids and dogs, given proper introductions and time to acclimate. He's pretty lazy and he loves his bed, and laps! Chico is about 9 years old, 12 pounds (could stand to lose a couple), neutered, vaccinated and started on heartworm/flea/tick prevention.
