Meet little Hopper, our good natured 'senior' chihuhua. Hopper weighs 15 lbs at most and is a good natured and confident nearly 9 year old boy. He shows no signs of aging except a few white hairs on his muzzle. Toy breeds typically have a longer life span and usually arent even considered senior until 10 yrs old.Hopper is good on leash and is fine being picked up. He doesnt mind high rise living so would be ok in an apartment. He hasnt shown any reactivity to other dogs at the kennel. Cats are unknown. Hopper is easily handled and would be great company. This little pretty has not had an easy go of it, as she spent many days in emergency care for Parvo and then some (over $8,000 in vet bills!)  Pretty Girl is healthy now and making up for lost time. She is a petite princess and can sometimes be bossy with other dogs.  She has had some exposure to cats in her current foster home. The cats there do not put up with dog nonsense. She is ready to have all your attention to herself. She can be a little timid and unsure so she will need to have your heart and your time.  Because of her rough past, she can be a flight risk.  She will need a physical 3 foot fenced yard that she cannot escape from and since she is so tiny, their can't be any spaces she will fit through. Pretty Girl is still working on leash training so a secured area will be the safest place to get her used to her new family and a leash.  Just be patient with her and you won’t be disappointed.  Pretty Girl is working on using the doggie door and piddle pads in her foster home. Poor Toby was abused by his previous owners and then left behind to fend for himself after the abusers moved out. Toby is doing great learning to trust humans. Toby is dog selective when it comes to other dogs but is fine with most dogs his size. Toby is doing great on crate training and can be crated after his foster mom worked with him on crating. Toby knows how to use a doggy door and will use a pee pad if he doesn't have access to the doggy door. Toby is very smart and loves all the attention he can get. He loves to spend time hanging out on your lap for love and attention.  Toby would be great as an only dog or could coexist with a friendly dog of his choice of course! Toby knows to sit and knows the word no. Toby is vocal when seeing other dogs. This handsome guy received a lot of love and potty training from his foster until he entered our DASH Prison Training Program.  He will continue to hone in on his basic commands. His foster says "he does well with other pups, he is a lovebug".  He is a lot of fun, loves to play and gets along with other dogs. He can be vocal at times, especially in his crate. He enjoys an occasional visit on the furniture and can be a little sound sensitive. The trainer is working on his people greeting skills. At times he will jump on his humans but he's just really happy to be so loved. This guy is a crowd pleaser, so don't wait to turn in an application. Sweetie loves attention and will happily help you out by guarding the door of the bathroom from the inside. However, she can also be quite the independent little lady and doesn’t need to be a velcro dog… unless you want her to be! Sweetie can be a little bossy with her dog friends (part of why we think she’s mixed with chihuahua!) but generally gets along well with everyone. Sweetie is a beauty but would benefit from a little tough love when it comes to feeding and giving out treats and a little more activity in her day. A physically fenced yard is required. This girl has tons of personality. Neva was adopted through Rico Pet Recovery about 2.5 years ago and is being returned to us because her owner has developed a significant medical issue and can no longer care for her. Neva loves to cuddle and play with toys and is good with kids who are a little bigger--we recommend five years old or more. She gets along with some dogs, but no cats for her! Neva is crate-trained and walks on a leash, although she sometimes feels she needs to protect herself or her owner from men and some dogs when she's leashed. You can apply to adopt this cutie pie at ricopetrecovery.org. Her adoption fee is $250.
