Meet Rusty! Rusty is a 3-year-old Chihuahua–Dachshund–Pug mix who is as sweet as pie and twice as adorable. He’s a gentle, timid soul with a laid-back personality who truly enjoys being near his people—just quietly sharing space and feeling safe. While Rusty doesn’t like to be picked up, he shows his affection by staying close and soaking in the calm energy around him. Rusty came from a hoarding situation where none of the dogs received much positive attention, and he had never been outside before coming into foster care. Because of this, he needs extra time, patience, and understanding as he learns that the world—and humans—can be kind. He takes a while to warm up and settle into a routine, but once he does, his sweet nature really shines. His crate is his safe space, and he does wonderfully in it—quiet and content overnight. Rusty is potty trained, has a great appetite, and enjoys toys (and has a special fondness for popcorn!). He’s scared of a leash attached to his collar but does much better wearing a harness. Due to his lack of outdoor experience, a securely fenced yard is a must for him. Rusty enjoys playing with other dogs and does well with cats, making him a great fit for a calm, pet-friendly home. He would thrive in a quiet environment with very patient humans who are willing to move at his pace and give him all the time he needs to adjust and feel safe. Rusty may not be a “bounce right in” kind of dog—but for the right family, he’ll be an incredibly rewarding companion. Meet Rapunzel, lovingly known as “Rae.” Rae is a 3-month-old, 17 lb female Chihuahua/Terrier mix with the sweetest soul and a face that is always smiling. No matter what she’s doing, playing, cuddling, or following her people around, Rae always looks happy. When fully grown, she is expected to be a smaller-to-medium sized dog. And in true Chihuahua fashion, Rae does like to be a little vocal, she has opinions and isn’t afraid to share them. Rae and her brother were found during a brutal snowstorm, curled up together under a bush in front of a motel in West Virginia. Thankfully, they were rescued and are now safe, warm, and thriving in loving foster homes. Rae is incredibly smart, affectionate, and loves her people. She loves her humans and happily seeks them out for kisses and cuddles, usually with that big happy smile on her face. She is currently fostered with dogs, cats, and teenage kids and gets along wonderfully with everyone. She would especially love having a doggy sibling to play with. This girl might need to try out for the doggy Olympics, because she can jump. Baby gates? No problem. Fences? They better be tall. She’s not being mischievous; she’s just trying to get to her people, and who can blame her? Rae is doing excellent with potty training and will go to the door when she needs to go out. Luna and Harry must stay together for Harry's sake. He is the more nervous and tends to shy from new things. Their brother Henry we were able to separate after many months of work with Henry going to visit for an hour or so and then extending the time. Sadly this didn't work for Harry. They are 3 1/2 years old. They had never been outside and we had to acclimatize them to the real world. It took a year before they would willingly walk out the door on leash. Both are very sweet dogs once they get to know you which doesn't take long. They are pee pad trained but are going outside now. Small children are not recommended as the pair are not well socialized with small kids and the pups would probably react badly to pulling or trying to be picked up the little ones. They do well with some dogs but not all they meet, with a little work they can adjust.
