Story
Elphie is finally ready to find her very own family! Elphie came to us in December right before a really big cold front was coming in. She had been living at a church for a while but no one could catch her. It had already started getting cool and she was tired and ready to give up the street life for a warm bed. Unfortunately Elphie had pretty advanced heartworm disease and it was effecting her heart and lungs. Over the next couple months of medication and heartworm treatment she has significantly improved! The heartworms have probably done some damage due to the severity and that may affect her as she gets older but she is currently in good health and not on any medications beyond her heartworm prevention. Elphie is about 8 yrs old and weighs 9 lbs. She’s a shy girl looking for a calm home to call her own. She tolerates other small dogs in the home but doesn’t want to play with them or like them in her space. She seems to be on the lookout for ways to escape so she will require a secure yard with supervision or leash walks. She is the best lap dog and also enjoys running and lounging in the grass! Elphie’s adoption fee is $195 local or $395 out of state with transport and includes current shots, microchip and spay. If you are interested in Elphie please complete the adoption application at the link below. If you have any questions email us at sgdrsa@outlook.com https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SGDR/Dog

Story
Ralphie might be small, but his heart is anything but. At just a year and a half old, this sweet little guy has already had a tough start—rescued from a high-intake shelter in Texas where his future was uncertain. But since arriving in Wisconsin, Ralphie’s been learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and home. He’s currently being fostered alongside two very different dog buddies—a fellow Chihuahua and a big Anatolian Shepherd mix—and he thinks they’re both the best. Ralphie really thrives with other dogs around. They give him comfort, confidence, and a good excuse to play. We’d love to see him go to a home with a doggy sibling who can show him the ropes (and maybe share a dog bed or two). Ralphie can be a little shy when you first meet him, but once he decides you’re safe? Game over. He’s yours. He loves nothing more than curling up in a lap—any lap—and being close to his people. He’s a calm, gentle soul who’s happiest snoozing through your workday or settling in for a cozy night in. FEE INCLUDES: Adopting an adult dog (6 months or older) includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea & tick prevention, heartworm testing, and microchipping. For dogs under 6 months, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and microchipping. All dogs are spayed/neutered by 6 months, covered within the adoption fee. The procedure must be done at one of our partner clinics. To begin the adoption process, please submit an application on our website: www.hbwi.org/adopt. Once approved, you'll have the opportunity to meet our available dogs. Following the meeting, you can initiate a 5-day Adoption Trial, allowing you to take the dog home. This trial period is designed to ensure the dog is a match for you and aligns with your lifestyle. After the 5-day trial, if all goes well, the adoption will be finalized. Additionally, we require a home visit once the dog is settled in its new home to ensure a smooth transition for both the dog and the adopter.

Story
Meet Pizzazz, a quiet and gentle soul with a heart full of hope. Her fosters call her Pizzeria, Calzone, Callie, or sometimes Wishbone, because of her sweet markings and the new story she’s writing for herself. Pizzazz came from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Texas, where nearly 100 dogs were crammed into a single trailer. When a fire broke out, many dogs perished. Somehow, against all odds, Pizzazz was one of the lucky ones. She’s now safe in Wisconsin and slowly learning what it means to feel secure. Every day, she gets a little braver, a little more curious, and a little more open to the kindness around her. She’s not loud (hasn't barked for her foster parents yet!) or attention-seeking, but if you sit quietly next to her, she’ll come close and look up at you with the softest eyes. She wants to connect. She just needs time.Pizzazz is crate trained and prefers to stay in it, where she feels safe. She does well with other calm dogs and cats. She will try and hide around more excitable dogs. She walks well on a leash, although she gets tired quickly and is still building up her strength. She also seems to be mostly potty trained and has only had one small accident since arriving. If you're someone who appreciates quiet companionship and the strength it takes to start over, Pizzazz just might be the dog you’ve been waiting for. We’d love to introduce you.DATCP #483538

Story
Meet the Lucky Seven 🐾These seven resilient girls — all Chihuahua mixes ranging in age from 2 to 7 — have survived one of the most heartbreaking starts imaginable. Rescued from a severe hoarding situation ending in a house fire that claimed several lives, 76 made it out. They’ve lived without the basic comforts of safety, structure, or human affection. Now in our care, they’re slowly beginning to experience what love, routine, & kindness feel like. Each one has her own personality, but they all share a need for patient, gentle humans who understand that trust takes time. Some are a little braver than others, but all are on a healing journey & making progress every day. They will do best in calm homes where they can go at their own pace. A home with another friendly, well-adjusted dog could be a huge help in showing them the ropes & helping them build confidence. These girls are not “instant” pets — but with time, understanding, & compassion, they have the potential to blossom into loving companions. If you have a soft spot for the shy ones & a heart big enough for a second (or seventh!) chance, one of these girls just might be your perfect match.DATCP#483538
