Story
Name: Citra Sex: Female Estimated Age: 3-4 years Best Guess for Breed: Border Collie Mix Weight: 59lbs Good With: Citra is good with other dogs as long as she has the proper introduction. We are not sure how she does with kids or cats, but happy to test her out for you! About Citra: Citra is an adorable 4 year old border collie mix who is incredibly smart and loves to learn new tricks. Fun facts: she knows over 15 commands and is working on several more, she’s a mozzarella cheese aficionado and butt scratches are her favorite! She also loves sunbathing - she can go for hours without moving from a sunny spot! Please read more about her below! CITRA’S PERFECT MATCH: PERFECT FAMILY: A home with 1-2 adults is ideal. Citra needs crate time when guests come over, but can warm up with a slow introduction and some treats. Because she is shy, we are recommending she not go to a home with small children. She can be quite scared of other dogs and cats, and would do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has been working her hardest with us to overcome her fears, and has shown lots of progress recently! PERFECT HOME: One with a fenced in yard away from the bustling city. EXERCISE NEEDS: Citra enjoys long walks on the leash and rolling in the grass belly side up at the park. She could play fetch and tug all day long with her humans! However, she is also very content to lounge around the house. She is such a playful pup and would love to learn new games and activities! She loves untangling a towel to get to her food, and that tires her out just as much as a walk! She should not be taken to dog parks. BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Citra is a sweetheart. She loves to play with her humans and then take naps on the couch or in her crate. She is slowly but surely learning how to interact with new humans, but it takes a lot of treats and patience to gain her trust. Once she gets comfortable, she would love nothing more but to snuggle up with you all night long. She is quiet and comfortable in her crate, knows the “place” command, and does not have accidents in the home. CRATE: Citra loves her crate, she will sleep and relax there during the day and while her humans are not at home. She also sleeps in there all night long! Color Match: ORANGE - Goofball (Socially Motivated) Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs. Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity. If you think that Citra might be your perfect match, apply today!December 6, 2023, 8:38 pm

DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Sasha is 6-7yo, weighs 66-70lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  "Sasha knows the sit command and come on leash but ignores when off-leash.  She has a slight case of separation anxiety but doesn't destroy anything while we are out of the house.  She's an excellent watch dog, probably would work very well with livestock since she is a herding breed.  We don't know much about Sasha's past save for she is afraid of many things (recycling trucks, wind, noises, refuses to walk or pulls on leash, does not respond to commands even though she has beeen trained to do so).  We opted to keep her to ensure that she would have a secure, safe environment but now at our advanced ages, find that she would be much better off with a place to run freely, like a farm or someone with a lot of land."  Please note Sasha'a guardians are also amenable to finding a foster home to bridge rehoming, if someone is interested and/or available. Sasha's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:   "We adopted sasha from the animal shelter four years ago and kept her with us even though nothing was known about her former life and she was picked up as a stray on Ballenger creek by someone.  She unfortunately came to us with a host of problems (afraid of practically everything, ie, aggression issues, not responding to commands) that we have tried our best to help her out with but the time has come for us to give her up because problems have become worse, i.e., excessive barking, nipping at people, severe aggression problems with anyone but close family members.  We have spent thousands of dollars in training her, we have given her a good secure home.  Our vet prescribed chlomacon which we have administered to her for well over a year to try to calm her down.   Now, both my husband and I are in our late 70’s and we can no longer care for her the way she should be cared for.  We would like to re-home her or find foster care that could bridge adoption by someone else who could take care of her."  BITE INCIDENT:  During the last 10 days, in Brunswick, MD, Sasha nipped at the neighbor's child; the nip broke the skin, but animal control was not involved and medical treatment was not required.  Sasha's guardian further explains:  "She nipped at the neighbor child's thigh and held her at bay, resulting in a small scrape; she has never really bitten anyone but she is a herding dog and nips occasionally." Sasha's guardian states the following regarding children:   Sasha has lived with children, ages 9 & 13 now, so she recommends her living with children, stating "She tries to herd them sometimes, but loves to play normally with the 'fetchit'." Sasha's guardian states the following regarding dogs:   Sasha hasn't lived with dogs, but her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating "She is fine; no aggression noted." Sasha's guardian states the following regarding cats:   Sasha has lived with a cat, so her guardian recommends her living with cats, stating "She likes our indoor cat, Rufus, but barks at the other strays that roam outside our home." Sasha's guardian describes her as: Very active Barks alot Playful Likes to be touched Affectionate Fearful Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Nervous House-Trained Likes men Likes women Separation anxiety Sasha's guardian describes her ideal future home: "I'm not sure what would be ideal for sasha.  I think she would benefit from having a large fenced in yard or farm situation where she could run around.  She is a very fast runner and loves to play with the fetchit.  She would benefit from a calm, serene household since unusual situations set her aggression off.  If we had no visitors in our life, she would be very happy.  She has had to go through some chaos recently which had made her very unmanageable. Story
Hi! My name is Carly. I’m a one and a half year old, black and tan, female and we believe my breed to be Australian Kelpie or an Australian Shepherd mix. Mainly I am mixed with love!  I am a very happy, energetic, loyal, alert, eager and extremely intelligent young dog with puppy like tendencies. Due to my breed, I am capable of untiring work and endless energy if so desired. I would fit in best with an active lifestyle that includes lots of opportunities to exercise in a large fenced-in yard where I can zip around and show off my athleticism. I can run really fast! My foster mom says I’m like a bullet when I’m running at top speed! Kelpies and Australian Shepherds prefer to have a job to do as they were created to herd sheep and cattle. I will need stimulation and small tasks to keep my mind active and my energy in check. A good jog or a workout combined with the mental exercise of obedience lessons would help me be my best version of myself. The mental exercise that the training provides would be a great way to keep me happy and involved. Training me for agility, obedience and rally are some great ways to give me some exercise. And although I sound like a lot of work, I can be chill as well so don’t be scared off!  I would be an excellent choice for adults and/or families with older (teenage) children that love to play and keep me entertained. WhiIe I love being super energetic, I also have an 'off’ switch too. I’m super happy if you take me out for a run, but I will be just as happy to settle down and snuggle on the couch afterwards to watch a movie. I enjoy being walked twice a day to sniff the neighborhood and do my business. I currently know how to sit and leave it. My foster mom is teaching me some additional words and some other useful commands as well. I am a quick learner! When you meet me you will notice that I have a great smile, love being petted, enjoy fetching and chewing on tennis balls, playing tug with my rope toy, and getting belly rubs. Scratches behind my ears make me very happy as well. I apologize upfront as I can be a bit bossy with other dogs…sorry…kind of a breed characteristic, so I would prefer to be an only dog and cats make my “chase” button turn on, so best to avoid those as well. But don’t worry, I can certainly fill up your home with lots of fur baby fun!        If you would like to open your heart and your home to me, please email storkwoods@comcast.net directly. This is the BEST way to get an application.
