Name: Citra Sex: Female Estimated Age: 3-4 years Best Guess for Breed: Border Collie Mix Weight: 59lbs Good With: Citra is good with other dogs as long as she has the proper introduction. We are not sure how she does with kids or cats, but happy to test her out for you! About Citra: Citra is an adorable 4 year old border collie mix who is incredibly smart and loves to learn new tricks. Fun facts: she knows over 15 commands and is working on several more, she’s a mozzarella cheese aficionado and butt scratches are her favorite! She also loves sunbathing - she can go for hours without moving from a sunny spot! Please read more about her below! CITRA’S PERFECT MATCH: PERFECT FAMILY: A home with 1-2 adults is ideal. Citra needs crate time when guests come over, but can warm up with a slow introduction and some treats. Because she is shy, we are recommending she not go to a home with small children. She can be quite scared of other dogs and cats, and would do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has been working her hardest with us to overcome her fears, and has shown lots of progress recently! PERFECT HOME: One with a fenced in yard away from the bustling city. EXERCISE NEEDS: Citra enjoys long walks on the leash and rolling in the grass belly side up at the park. She could play fetch and tug all day long with her humans! However, she is also very content to lounge around the house. She is such a playful pup and would love to learn new games and activities! She loves untangling a towel to get to her food, and that tires her out just as much as a walk! She should not be taken to dog parks. BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Citra is a sweetheart. She loves to play with her humans and then take naps on the couch or in her crate. She is slowly but surely learning how to interact with new humans, but it takes a lot of treats and patience to gain her trust. Once she gets comfortable, she would love nothing more but to snuggle up with you all night long. She is quiet and comfortable in her crate, knows the “place” command, and does not have accidents in the home. CRATE: Citra loves her crate, she will sleep and relax there during the day and while her humans are not at home. She also sleeps in there all night long! Color Match: ORANGE - Goofball (Socially Motivated) Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs. Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity. If you think that Citra might be your perfect match, apply today!February 24, 2024, 12:28 pm

Story
Meet Loki the cowardly lion. Okay, so obviously Loki isn`t ACTUALLY a lion, but he is cowardly.Loki seems to have missed out on `life experiences` and is pretty unsure about... everything. A panicked mess at the shelter, Loki has spent time in a foster home and is showing he`s not ALWAYS scared and he can, in fact, be a super annoying young dog who pesters you, steals your socks (or any other article of clothing that you aren`t wearing including the clothes you just laid out to put on), jumps up, and is all around an adorable, goofy, snuggly menace.Loki loves other dogs, and despite his foster siblings` protests and grumbles, manages to sneak in snuggles with them. Loki shares well and after a lot of persistence from one of his foster siblings has begun to master the art of playing tug with them. (We weren’t kidding about missing out on life experiences).Loki has a lot of challenges to face with his fears. He`d love a home with a backyard and dog friends to help him continue to gain confidence. (Maybe some dog friends that aren`t going to teach him bad manners like the current bunch). Loki is scared of the leash, so a yard is ideal while he learns that good things happen when the leash comes out.Loki’s awkward. So if you’re awkward and want an awkward dog, or you’re perfectly normal but want to be this cowardly lion’s Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, or Toto to help him find his courage, email his foster mom at maria.anselmo@montgomerycountymd.govMore photos and some video can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/FkjdNzhkFgQZLTxU8

Story
Ian is a 3 month old, SMART, super sweet, Collie mix. He would do best in a home with another dog as we believe it would boost his confidence. If he wasn't so young, we would swear this little guy has graduated from basic training-he quietly heels on leash, comes when called, sits on command, and has already figured out to whine by the back door when he needs to potty! He is still a puppy and may take something that is not his, but is very responsive to correction and eager to please his humans. He sleeps quietly all night in his crate. Ian is being fostered in a home with 2 toddlers and is especially gentle with them. He loves nothing more than to give kisses and cuddle as often as possible. He's truly a relaxed gentleman, we are excited to see his little personality come out. For now Ian is realizing that life can be calm and couches with big blankets are pretty comfy. The adoption fee for this dog is $375, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter if the pup is not already spayed/neutered. A refundable $100 spay/neuter deposit will be added at the time of adoption. If the animal you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered, you will be required to sign a contract legally obligating you to have the animal altered. ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs....all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! Puppies require an adopter who is home a good part of the day to continue their training - no exceptions! They are up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines and preventatives and will need to be spayed/neutered at the age of 6 months. Please note, this pup's immune system will not be fully functioning until about 16 weeks of age and therefore, s/he is not suited for Apartment/Condo living or Town homes without a private fenced yard and will not be able to go to public places where s/he could possibly be exposed to the germs of unvaccinated dogs, such as PetSmart/PetCo and dog parks until s/he is 16 weeks old Petconnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. This sweet boy is Indiana, AKA Indy. He is a 3 month old, Collie mix that is as sweet as he is smart! He has only been with his foster a few days and has already impressed her as he is sleeping quietly all night in his crate and working hard on house training. This lil guy loves to cuddle with any and all humans (big and small), Indy is food motivated and eager to please! He is good with other dogs, but could easily be an only dog to a very lucky family. The adoption fee for this dog is $375, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter if the pup is not already spayed/neutered. Story
Hey there, it's Todd - back at FOHA, but not by choice. Life threw a curveball, and my previous human couldn't care for me anymore. It's all good, though. Now you get to know the real me, and I'm more ready than ever to find a home with someone who's all in for this sweet boy. So, here's the scoop. I'm a house-trained pro - no accidents here. When nature calls, I've got this routine where I head straight to the back door and let out a little cry. Keepin' it classy, you know? I've got some skills up my furry sleeve too. I know how to sit, and I'm totally down to learn more commands. Treats are my weakness, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. You wave those treats, and I'm all ears, ready to show off my moves. Now, let's talk walks. I get pretty pumped about exploring the great outdoors. Other dogs? Oh, I'm excited! Leash skills? Well, I could use a bit of work there, but hey, who doesn't? We can learn together. I'm not just about training and walks, though. I'm a cuddle champion. Lap time is my favorite time, and if you've got some pets to spare, count me in. I'm all about spreading joy, and I've got a goofy side that's just looking for someone who can appreciate it. Ready for a loyal companion who's got a bit of healing to do but is bursting with love and laughter? That's me, Todd. Let's make some memories, navigate this journey together, and bring a whole lot of happiness into each other's lives. I'm here, waiting for that perfect match - could it be you?

Story
Angel is a sweet tricolor male collie born in March 2023.  Angel would be happiest if he had a canine sister or brother to romp with in a fenced-in yard, and an outdoorsy family who enjoys exploring the countryside or trails with a loyal companion. Angel is alert and intelligent, and loves to prance and play. He hasn’t met a dog he doesn’t love -- young or old, large or small. When he is inside, he settles down nicely. He is happy to go into his puppy pen at naptime and bedtime, and never complains or makes a peep. He would be very happy if his new family provides him with a large crate or puppy pen where he can retire when things get a bit too busy. He will also benefit from additional practice with car rides and leash-walking, since both of these fun things are new to him. This little angel doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and he really wants to find someone who will embrace his playfulness and spirit. Once he gets to know you a bit, he’ll be your guy! If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! This is Titan!  He is a young collie boy, who was born in March 2023.  Titan is a sweet boy, but he is a little hesitant with new things, shy with new people, and needs time to adjust before his nervousness dissipates.  But once he adjusts, he is great!  He LOVES other dogs, so we would like to help him find a home with another young dog so they can play together and have fun!  Ideally, he would do well in a home with older children (teenagers).  Please take a look at his sweet photos and let us know if you're interested in adopting sweet Titan!  If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Story
Age: 2 years Size: 58 pounds Estimated breed: Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix Spotty needs a home with: resident dog(s), fenced in yard, no young children   Update 7/7:  Spotty is super dog social guy who needs to be with other dogs. He absolutely adores every dog he meets. Spotty is still a little reserved around people but has been making huge strides and seems to improve every day! He has gone through professional training to work on self- confidence and is able to go on walks now and trust more than he used to. Spotty is super submissive and needs a home with a very social dog that will hang out and play with him all day. He loves to play with dogs more than anything. Spotty is also house trained and crate trained. He requires a fenced yard as he can get spooked and we don’t want to take chances of him trying to flee. Spotty has endless potential if you give him the time and patience he needs and deserves to come out of his shell! -------- Spotty is estimated to be about 1.5 years old and 45 pounds. He was found as a stray in SC and was completely petrified at the shelter. He sat in a corner shaking and had to be carried just to move out of his kennel. He came to us very nervous and shy but with the help of his canine friends, he is slowly learning to trust and thriving in his foster home. He has also met and done training with our trainer where he is now comfortable going for walks on a leash and exploring the outdoors!   Spotty gains comfort from other dogs, so he requires a home with a friendly resident dog to help show him the ropes. Spotty would do best in a home without young children as he is still gets timid around new people and retreats. With time and patience, he will show his new family how goofy and happy he really is. All he needs is someone who is understands that just needs a little time to know he is safe. His best quality..... he is AMAZING with other dogs and wants to be their best friend. If you have a dog that has been wanting a sibling, Spotty is your guy!   To adopt Spotty, please apply on our website! www.keytolionsheart.org/adopt   Please note we cannot guarantee the breed or adult size of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training. February 18, 2024, 6:13 pm
