Story
Well, let's talk about Chuckie. Isn't he adorable? That long lush coat of black and tan hair. It's therapeutic to brush it and smooth it..... for Chuck and for the person doing it. This gorgeous nugget finds his way to DREAM because his human was working long long hours, and not only that there was overnight traveling involved. Someone would come to the house to let him out, once or twice a day, but mostly he was by himself- isn't that terribly sad? For days on end, no companionship, no exercise, no fresh air and sunshine. But he's with us now, and he's looking forward to the after times. Chuckie is a typical doxie. He plays with toys, hunts and loves to snuggles. He does get stressed out when along and is comfortable in his crate when his humans are gone. Chuck is great with other dogs, sleeps under the bed and loves to sit next to you on the sofa. He likes all people and is fine around kids as well. He is a great car rider and will settle in his crate during a ride. Overall he is housetrained but still has some accidents. He must go out every 2-3 hours to maintain a regular schedule. He enjoys walks but not long ones. Chuckie would do best in a home with a back yard for him to explore and someone who can be home with him most of the day. If you are interested in adopting Chuckie, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Chuckie's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Chuckie will go to his new home microchipped, neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we will expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook

Story
Oh my gosh!!! Can you even get over those cute lips?! Made for kissing!!! Dewey Dew-Drop is a little nugget who was loved for his whole life. His person has become very ill, and is no longer able to care for him. It's a sad story, but we're determined to make it a happy ending because that's just what we do. Dewey is an older, distinguished gentleman who grows sweeter by the day. Don't be fooled by the light of his eyes, this senior sees perfectly well and can find his humans anywhere for a back scratch. His only special requirement is an eye drop for his dry eyes at mealtime and he is good to go, such a happy guy. Dewey is the epitome of laid back. He loves meal times and just plain ole' hanging out. He rarely barks and spends his days going with the flow. He loves a fly-by for a belly rub or behind the ear scratch and is off on his merry way- tail ALWAYS wagging- back to his dog bed to watch the squirrels through the window. His main interests include: wet dog food, sunbathing, humans and taking short walks on the leash. Dewey was loved a little TOO MUCH by his owner before she went into a nursing home and was a chunky monkey when he arrived at DREAM. He is working hard on slimming up his waist- aren't we all? We portion his dog food twice a day with the occasional treat of green beans---he remains hopeful for people food and spends meal times parked under the dinner table for anything humans drop. After he eats he heads right to the door to let us know that he needs to do his business outside. We have been working on this and as long as his humans know his schedule and pay attention to his cues he does very well on potty training. After he sniffs around the yard for a bit he bounds inside like a puppy which is always a sight to see. Due to a lack of dental care in his previous life, Dewey has lost all of his teeth. Less to brush! It does not stop him from eating things- just needs them moistened with water- and makes his smile even handsome. Dewey would be a great addition to a home as an only dog or with other dachshunds. He is friendly, affectionate and has never met a stranger. His calming energy makes him a fan favorite with little kids and adults alike. He gives back so much more than he needs and just looking at him can make your day! Bring Dewey into your family - you won't be sorry! If you are interested in adopting Dewey, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Dewey's adoption fee is $300. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Story
WE KNOW - WE KNOW. Putt Putt is young and cute and looks like a dream come true, but help us to help you by hitting your personal pause button on this one, and just read all of this before inquiring about him. This young sprite is a handful, not everyone's cup of tea, needs a very patient and experienced home, and for now we would prefer candidates with ABSOLUTELY NO CHILDREN! So again, please read thoroughly. Putt Putt is a 3 year old, strikingly handsome dachshund. He's got all the classic markings and physique. But poor Putt Putt...due to no fault of his own, he doesn't have much confidence and that comes out in a really bad way when he gets scared. This little guy will bite when he is afraid. It's his unfortunate go-to reaction right now, but we are working on that, and you'll have to be able to do this as well. This is why we say he needs an experienced home. Once he gets past this phase, he absolutely loves his people - adores them actually ... that is the people HE TRUSTS. He needs that calm confidence and leadership to help him get there. He adores his ball and is a great cuddle-bug for his foster parents, now that he has begun to trust them. He is also starting to listen to his foster parents when they have a visitor over, so he's figuring out how to cool his jets thru their calm leadership and guidance. (See, we keep circling back to trust.) He still hates the vet and requires a muzzle for his medical attention. We think he'd be great in a home that has a fenced yard for him and a lifestyle where he can be included in the fun. He's great with other doggos and would be a great companion to another dog that can show him the ropes, though he'd be fine as an only dog too. Regarding children, he actually does very well with the smaller children. It's the active household with lots of friends & guests coming & going that will upset him. In fact, it's any busy household structure, not just one with teens. He's a dog who likes his routine and his quiet space. Adopter must understand that any introductions with new people need to be managed, monitored and go slow. This is what his foster home has to say....."After about 2 days in a new home, Putt Putt will be a wonderful & charming member of the family. He will simply need time to adjust, and learn he can trust his new people. He adores snuggling and lap time, and is so very loving. He is a lot of fun, and loves to play tug and fetch. Older children who will respect his space will find him to be a loyal and loving companion, but we would not recommend him to very young toddlers or a busy teenage home. He does seem to have a strong prey drive and even wants to chase the koi in our pond! He will need to get acclimated to visitors in a home, because he is protective of his people. Putt Putt is crate trained and housetrained. He just needs an experienced owner who will be patient with him while he acclimates." We are here to mentor you on how to care for a dog like Putt Putt, one that will return the effort ten-fold and become the companion of a lifetime for a lucky someone. Is it you? Let's work together. Story
Pfeffer is a laidback little man, all 12 pounds of him. He's not demanding, bossy, barky or ill-tempered. He comes to DREAM after his elderly owner passed away. It was a big lifestyle change but this little guy has embraced his new experienced with ease! Part of his transition was getting caught up on vetting. He recently had a dental and is now healing up nicely, and not missing those rotten tootsies at all. This little guy just keeps moving forward and takes every opportunity to get some pets and cuddle up and take some naps. Can you say “life goals”?! He's gotten settled into his foster home and is exploring the yard and socializing with his new canine friends. Check out the pic of him soaking up the sun-eyes closed and chillaxin. Duuuuuddddeee has style. Being a canine of advanced years, he does have challenges with his potty breaks. This is manageable using a belly band and attention to keeping him on a schedule for walks and outings in the yard. He’s a friendly lil guy who gets along fine with everyone in the pack. His mature muscle & bones are benefitting from some laser therapy & acupuncture treatment to work on keeping his joints healthy. He's a funny little laid back longdoggo, breaking into a trot when he's excited and wagging his tail with delight. Pfeffer would be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a companion dog to snuggle up to and to share all life has to offer. Apply to adopt Pfeffer right at our website.
