This beauty is Lucille! She ended up at the shelter as a lost girl on 1/27, and sadly, no one has come to reclaim her. Lucille is now keeping her paws crossed for a new, forever home where she will be loved and kept safe so that she never ends up back in the shelter. The volunteers describe Lucille as sweet and easygoing. She is calm and quiet in her kennel, and she walks so nicely on leash. She also knows how to sit for treats. Lucille is approximately 4 years old, is a small-sized dog. She is UTD on vaccines, has been spayed, and will be microchipped upon adoption. Unfortunately, Lucille did test positive for heartworms, but with proper treatment and care she can go on to live and long and healthy life. Please speak with shelter staff about the option of fostering to adopt while she receives her treatment. Lucille is waiting patiently in kennel 311; her ID # is 16579. Midnight ended up at animal control after his owners abandoned him at a clinic. He was held for a while but with so many dogs he ended up on the euthanasia list. Can you imagine? This little guy is a very nice dog with a great temperament. He loves to hang with his people way more than the other dogs at his foster home. He appears to prefer the company of the females in the foster home pack. His foster family believe he is mixed with corgi or other herding breed because he has a habit of jumping and mouthing to get attention. Midnight is not rally a vocal dog. But when he has something to say it is in a a "Big Dog" bark but the good news is he's not a huge barker unless he's excited about something. Midnight sleeps quietly in a crate like a gentleman. Midnight is completely potty trained. He no longer takes any medicine for anything but when he did he took it like a champ. He loves to chase a ball and bring it back to you to throw again. He loves to go for loooooooong leash walks. He needs a home with people that will dedicate time to his daily walks. This guy absolutely loves to explore the back yard and will definitely need a fenced yard. He is working on waiting but still is a BIG Door Darter. He is very excited to GO, GO, GOI! I'm Sprout, and I am a snuggle bug, big fan of the stuffy toy fetch game, and a devoted fan of the show Slow Horses. I am 110% dachshund. I have it ALL -- everything you've heard about dachshunds? I've got it. Snuggly? Check. Food motivated? Yup. Nosy up in all your business? Oh yeah. Demanding of attention? See "nosy." Burrow under blankies? All the time. Funny? SO FUNNY. Sweet kisses? I got 'em. Prey drive? Oh yeah. Show me the squirrel. And if you have a shed, I will get under it to hunt. . I'm 9 pounds of love and pure nerve. I love my people and I love my doggie friends. I'm a big fan of the couch cuddle -- with both people and doggies -- and of the doggie wrestling. I LOVE playing fetch and I love hangout time. Adults and kiddos over 10 only please. I had a disc rupture (darn dachshund genes) but I walk almost normally now. I can run and play with a fun little wobble but I cannot do stairs. (I can climb a ramp.) I have pretty good control of my bladder but if you give me a little extra squeeze when we go outside (foster mom will teach you), I don't leak in the house unless I get too full. Expressing a dog is easy peasy and foster mom is an expert teacher. If you keep me on a schedule, I do just fine. I have done physical therapy to improve my core strength. PILATES, anyone? I sometimes do not realize I am pooping, but most of the time I do well. I am a delight to be around and a real charmer. When someone new comes to the house, I will bark, but as soon as they pay the "Sprout Tax" (treats), we can be besties and I will want to be in their lap. Story

Dapples wandered into a yard with multiple cuts and scrapes. A Good Samaritan took her in and contacted DREAM after no owner was found. From her condition, she had not had much care in the past. She was underweight and had a mouth full of infection. She’s had some much needed dental care and quality groceries. The Veterinarian estimated her age to be 10 but she’s got many miles left on her paws and this little gal is ready to begin her new life. Dachshunds are an intelligent breed and Dapples fits that perfection. She’s a smart cookie but she has a strong desire for what “she wants”. So she needs an experience Doxie owner that knows how to provide loving structure to reinforce good behaviors and redirect undesirable behaviors. With clear, consistent and patience she does beautifully. For example, She will growl and bark at new people in HER space, BUT, if the introduction is slow and her foster dad holds her, she becomes confident and calm, and the barking is avoided and makes friends. Once she knows you, she’s a major snuggler. She'd love to sleep in your bed, but she sleeps in a crate next to the human bed, and she seems fine with that as well after a short whine until the lights are turned off. She is fully house-trained. She'll make a different pitch whine while in her crate if she needs to go potty. She has a good appetite and is quite food-motivated, which comes in handy for training. Dapples exhibits some insecurity. When you reach to pet her, she cowers and wags her tail really fast. She has never offered to bite, but she was a bit jealous at first of her foster sibling getting the shared attention. They now are snuggle buddies. She just needs a bit of time to get comfortable. We think she'd do best in a home with No small children. Another dog or two is fine, but she'll need help with jealousy from the beginning, and then it will fade. She'd also do well in a home with no dogs. Just her people. She is protective of her people and home, so again, experienced doxie owners are preferred, but at least experienced dog owners. She loves to go for walks. She loves digging in the mulch bed and basking in the backyard sunning herself. Frito is finishing up his vetting and will be available soon.. He had much overdue medical needs but is definitely looking forward to many years now that he’s getting the care he needed. For example two dental surgeries with so many extractions. Even with just a few teeth, he does just fine with his food, thank you very much. Check out his pic with those vampire toofs. 95% housetrained but as typical dachshund, he despises rain and cold weather and if given the chance will skip going outside 😜 Frito is as sweet as they come and has never met a stranger. He hasn’t been around kiddos so that is unknown. He sleeps quietly in his bed next to his foster mom’s bed. Say HI to Rosey - the cutest little firecracker you could ever meet. When Rosey came to DREAM a couple months ago, she had a serious heart murmur and was paralyzed. She needed an immediate check of her heart and then surgery to help overcome IVDD. (That was quite an expensive day for our rescue.) Rosey immediately showed us she had a huge spirit and determination to boot. She has slayed her paralysis and is eager to get back to all the good things in life...while learning to take it in moderation now. She has made a wonderful recovery, yet she still shows some signs of being a little unsteady or wobbly on her feet. But that doesn't slow Rosey down - not in the least. Because of this, her new parent(s) will need to be extra careful to make sure she doesn't overdo her activities in the future. This is very common for the IVDD warriors. She is also on 2 heart medications (vetmedin & enalapril) that will be necessary for the rest of her life. Rosey's foster mom has learned a lot about her over the past 8 weeks. Here's her summary. Rosie is........ * Happy, goofy and stubborn demeanor- highly entertaining * Toy destroyer, squeaker liberator * BIG personality and demanding at times * Loves to snuggle and sleep in the big bed * She’s a shadow and wants to be wherever her person is * Great for a single person that works from home * Knows how to use ramps * Will signal to go potty - but you better listen to her * Loves to sit on the patio and sunbath * No children under the age of 15 - but she adores adults * Will need time to build trust, it may take a few weeks for her to settle in * Eats aggressively, so best with a slow feeder for meals * Loves meeting and greeting people on walks but may happy tinkle * Grade 4 heart murmur that will require meds & vetting for the rest of her life * IVDD Warrior - recovered (doing amazing) - would benefit from someone that is aware and knows the signs of an episode and what to do * No big dogs for Rosey, but a canine friend who will submit would be her ideal.
