Story
How precious is this tiny nugget? Zara is such a wonderful little wiener dog with a curious way of seeing the world. Her previous owners loved her but did not have the means to care for her when she suffered an IVDD back injury and was simultaneously discovered to be heartworm positive. Once she came into DREAM, we took Zara in right away to see our specialist, who performed surgery on the ruptured disc. Since then, she's begun her HW treatment and has undergone acupuncture and cold-laser therapy to help wake her central nervous system back up. We definitely see signs of progress, but they are very slow. However this does not impede her quality of life. While the surgery and therapy have helped her greatly, Zara currently does not have the ability to walk but that doesn’t stop her from getting around and playing with the other dogs in the house. To help her get around, Zara can scoot on her own or use her cart. Honestly, she much prefers to scoot. Because of her physical limitations, Zara does need to be expressed to help her go to the bathroom-both #1 and #2. This is very easy to learn, very clean and the great thing is when kept on a schedule of expressing, she’s house-trained and can go most anywhere. She's a friendly little muppet who loves her people and has the gumption to thrive no matter the circumstances. It's impossible to be around her without smiling and wanting to snuggle her. Zara is very much a lap-girl. If you are sitting down, she wants to be right next to you. Her goal in life is to be carried around 24 / 7 / 365. DREAM has helped dogs of all capability levels and we believe this girl is really easy to care for. Resource material is available for you to order as well. One of the original board members wrote this extremely helpful book about day to day life with a "down dog".... Honey Have You Squeezed the Dachshund. If you are interested in adopting Zara, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Zara's adoption fee is $500. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Zara will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter

Story
Boscoe has a number of talents and his foster mom calls him a smart Houdini. He quickly figured out how to open pocket doors to get into another room. He will push doors open if they are not latched to stay within sight of his person. He is an all star snuggler and we are sure he will pass the snuggles certification exam with flying colors. 😉 Boscoe had been training & is now about 90% house trained if kept on a schedule and his cues are picked up and he’s let outside for a potty break. He definitely needs a secure fenced yard as he likes to explore and looks for ways to let himself out for a solo adventures. He's not shown any signs of being a digger but he has shown tendencies to be a door darter. Boscoe is very athletic and can jump up quite high. Walking is his jam and he’s a perfect gentleman on a leash. He really loves being around people and can have some separation anxiety but is getting better. He's good with dogs and people but much prefers his people over another dog. Boscoe does NOT like to be crated and will chew the metal on the crate as his anxiety escalates being in there. He usually has something to say and lets his voice be heard if he isn’t feeling secure. His foster mom says he has settled in and she thinks he had a hard time adjusting to a new environment because he wasn’t around many different people and situations before coming to DREAM. He has met lots of new people and is doing well at becoming friends. If you are interested in adopting Boscoe, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Boscoe's adoption fee is $700. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Boscoe will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Story
Frankie was surrendered to DREAM when his family could no longer care for him. This little guy is darling and although he is a senior, he has some life to live. Frankie came to DREAM with some skin allergies. Since he appears to have had this issue for a time, his recovery will take some time. Lucky for him his foster mom is a pro at helping treat this problem and is giving him some special food and spa treatments with anti itch products. Frankie is a bit unsure when riding in the car but he does enjoy going for outings and he walks well on a leash. He enjoys following his foster mom & dad around the house and yard so he’s sure not to miss out on anything. He doesn’t do well with recall, but not because he’s stubborn, but he is mostly deaf. But don’t worry, his eyes and nose help his to experience the world just fine. Once he’s had his fill of adventures, he tucks himself into his crate and burrows under his blanket like a burrito. He is working on house training and he wears a belly band like a champ which is a huge help. Frankie is mostly quiet and not much of a barker. If you are looking for a buddy to enjoy life with you, Frankie is waiting for you! If you are interested in adopting Frankie, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Frankie's adoption fee is $xxx. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Story
Aussie was surrendered after their dachshund and mini Australian shepherd had puppies. He’s an adorable little guy who just landed in his foster home and so far appears to be potty trained. He's very playful, walks well on a leash, and loves car rides. He loves being in a lap and cuddling up next to his person. Aussie stops automatically on a walk when you stop for a minute. He looks up at at his foster dad as if he's waiting to find out what his next command is going to be. He knows the "Down" command. He will go in a crate when asked to do so as long as there is treat involved. Aussie is very curious and afraid of loud noises. He has A LOT of herding instinct and needs someone willing to spend a lot of time with him. At one point someone accidentally left the garage door open and his foster dad opened the door going to the garage (assuming it was closed like normal) and Aussie darted out and he was out of sight as quick as a flash! Luckily, Aussie turned right around and came back. Phew!!!! This time he was lucky and we wouldn’t want to test the waters in that situation again, so adopters will need to work with his recall and waiting at the door. If you are interested in adopting Aussie, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Aussie's adoption fee is $600 All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Aussie will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Story
Say hello to this handsome young boy....meet Fenway, the most adorable little playfull ball of fur and love you'll ever meet. He's just now 7 mths old and ready for his forever home. Fenway is your typical puppy, full of energy and curiosity. He has been known to chew on some things, but that is getting better, especially now that those puppy teeth are gone. He absolutely loves to wrestle and play with other dogs, so we are seeking a home with another companion of equal playfulness. Some additional fun facts about Fenway... *Uses a doggie door with ease. *He is the most patient eater. (Does he know he's a dachshund?!?) *Loves to snuggle on the sofa at night. *Not shy, but does want to know his people before trusting them. *Bonds fast & hard. *Wants to sleep in the big bed under the covers. *Likes a cookie right before bed, and b/c his brofur gets a meatball with meds, Fenway requires some smeared on his cookie as well. Refuses to eat it without the extra. 😊 *Loves to talk to you, whether its you coming home or when he's ready to play. He's very vocal. *Wrestling and playing zoomies with his canine companions is an absolute favorite game. *Very respectful mid-pack personality. Will listen to & respect the other dogs. If you are interested in adopting Fenway, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Fenway's adoption fee is $700. Story
Morty is a senior Dachshund mix with a heart full of love and a strong desire to be wherever his people are. At around 10+ years old and 16 lbs, he’s the definition of a Velcro dog: if you’re home, Morty will be right by your side, in your lap, or snuggled under a blanket near you. Morty is mostly potty trained and does a great job letting you know when he needs to go outside. He walks nicely on a harness and enjoys spending time with other small dogs and cats. While he can coexist with larger dogs, he seems most comfortable around dogs his own size. Like many long-backed breeds, Morty will need ramps or stairs to help protect his back and should not be jumping on and off furniture. He’s also not a good off-leash candidate because once he decides to go exploring, he’s not likely to come back when called! Morty is a sweet, affectionate boy who thrives on attention and companionship. He can be a little anxious when he can’t be near his people and may whine or bark to let you know he’d rather be included. Because of this, he’ll do best with a family that understands his clingy nature and will shower him with the love he craves. For his age, Morty is in great health. He recently had a dental procedure and only has a few teeth remaining, so he does best eating soft food. The good news? He’s very food motivated and always excited for mealtime. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will happily spend his days cuddled up next to you, Morty may be your perfect match! To adopt him, please apply on www.orphanannierescue.org His adoption fee is $350, which includes his shots up-to-date, microchipping, neuter, heartworm testing, and dental cleaning.
