Story
This may be one of the most unique profiles you ever read. Yes, we say READ. Why? Well....we aren't going to show any pictures of this dog until you have. Intrigued yet? We hope so. Read on! PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are seeking a very special home for this very special boy. This dog is stunning, yet it's his looks that got him where he is. His looks will make you crave him, but his personality is what you need to be up for the challenge of handling. Barkly came from a breeding environment that hindered his social skills...what we call "puppymill syndrome." This is a personality disorder that prevents Barkly from trusting with ease, and often can only assimilate to one person at a time. Can he get there? ABSOLUTELY!!! When will he get there? That all depends on both him & you. THIS PUP IS EMOTIONALLY SHUT DOWN - HE WILL REQUIRE LOTS OF PATIENCE The reason we want you to READ first is to get a good understanding of who this dog is....and NOT what he looks like. He is absolutely, positively adorable, and everyone instantly falls for him...but he is not for everyone. In fact, he is not for most. He has some serious mental health matters that most people won't take the time to read about or understand, much less be able to handle appropriately, simply because he's too cute. And these health matters are relatively easy to handle for the right person with the right attitude. Most just see tons of cuteness in front of them and instantly disregard everything else. He & DREAM can't afford for that to happen. We've spent a lot of time and effort (and financial resources) getting Barkly back into good health, so we hope to truly inform you of him & his needs FIRST and then show you his photos later. We promise, you'll like them. So, let's dive in. Barkly is a long-haired, neutered male, ~1.5 years old (DOB Feb'24.) Sweet as pie. Softest hair & most soulful eyes you've ever seen. He's a petite little guy. ~11 lbs, fluff and all. He came to us after being purchased at 11 mths of age by a family that had him for ~6 months when the situation became too much. They just didn't know how to help Barkly get over his fears. Barkly did enjoy the children in their home, but he did not like the man of the house...not one bit. It was constant barking at this particular person, despite all his & their efforts. Barkly will need time to adjust to any new environment he's put into. With patience and positive reinforcement, along with gentle leadership without hesitation or worry, he will grow to trust you and your home. Reminder...our emotions travel down the leash and dogs absolutely pick up on that "worry", especially the sensitive dogs like Barkly. His ideal candidate will be female and home more than not. He will need someone who remains his cheerleader and his captain. We will also require there to be a fence (as he is a flight risk) and another dog in the home...one who is a confident dog that can help teach Barkly about his new world and all the good things in it. A few quick tips for handling a shy dog.......... Focus on building trust through patience, positive reinforcement, and creating a safe, predictable environment. Avoid forcing interactions, and instead, let the dog approach you at their own pace. Introduce new experiences gradually and pair them with positive associations like treats. If you are interested in learning more about Barkly (or adopting him), you can fill out an application right on our website! Once we review the app, then we will send photos of him. Go to our online adoption application. Barkly's adoption fee is $650. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. [Pet Name] will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees; we are non-profit. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter

Story
Meet Oskie - aka Oscar - aka Mr Happy Go Lucky. This little old man has quite the pep in his step and bounce to his stride. He has just arrived after his dad had to move to assisted living. Oskie has been well loved during his life, and is now looking for a soft and final place to land and spend the rest of his days enjoying all the luxury and comfort that the "good life" has to offer. Oskie is currently being medically evaluated for an anal gland tumor and DREAM is taking the necessary steps to attend to his care. If you'd like to donate to his medical needs, please visit our website to make a gift in his name. Besides the tumor, Oskie doesn't have a care in the world and would make an outstanding companion for anyone lucky enough to bring him into their home. If you are interested in adopting Oskie, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Oskie's adoption fee is $300. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. THIS PUP IS EMOTIONALLY SHUT DOWN & WILL REQUIRE LOTS OF PATIENCE PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are seeking a very special home for this very special girl. Mikki came from a breeding environment that hindered her social skills...what we call "puppymill syndrome"...and her case is pretty severe. This is a personality disorder that prevents Mikki from trusting with ease, and often can only assimilate to one person at a time. Can she get there? ABSOLUTELY!!! When will she get there? That all depends on both her & you. Do NOT apply for this dog b/c of her age or appearance. She is absolutely, positively adorable, and everyone instantly falls for her...but she is not for everyone. In fact, she is not for most. She has some serious mental health matters that most people won't take the time to read about or understand, much less be able to handle appropriately, simply because she's an adorable young pup. These health matters are relatively easy to handle for the right person with the right attitude. Most just see tons of cuteness in front of them and instantly disregard everything else. She & DREAM can't afford for that to happen. We've spent a lot of time and effort (and financial resources) helping Mikki overcome her condition and getting her ready for adoption. Mikki has also tested positive for heartworms and is currently undergoing treatment for that. It should be completed within a couple months (~end of Aug.) Mikki is a smooth-coated b&t dapple femaled. She is spayed. ~1.5 years old (DOB Jan'24.) Very sweet yet very independent girl, due to her current fear of humans, especially strangers. She's a petite little girl. ~10 lbs. She came to us after being seized by the Humane Society along with 130 other dogs from some of the most horrific conditions. Then she was adopted by a family that had her for ~6 months, but the situation became too much. They just didn't know how to help Mikki get over her fears. Also, Mikki did NOT enjoy the children in their home...not one bit. She does not understand their movements at all. Our ideal adopter would be a single person with another dog, a fenced yard, and calm but upbeat leadership skills. If you are interested in adopting Mikki, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Mikki's adoption fee is $600. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Mikki will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Story
Meet Posie – Sweet, Sassy, and Ready to Shine ✨ / Don’t let this pretty face fool you—Posie is more than just a beautiful face and soulful eyes. This girl is a one year old, high energy and ready to go, go, go 💥 She’s looking for an active, adult-only home where daily enrichment is a given—think food puzzles, interactive toys, long walks, and outdoor time. A secure fenced yard is a must so this gal can get out all her wiggles and engage in a professional level game of fetch. Posie has been working with one of our amazing trainers; she needs someone patient and consistent who’s ready to continue her training and help her grow into the incredible companion we know she can be. She is housetrained, crate-comfortable, and full of potential. 🐶 Great with other dogs! Posie would thrive with a playful, friendly canine sibling so home with at least 1 canine buddy please..
🏡 Fenced yard required—she’s an outdoorsy gal and city life just isn’t her scene.
🥰 Snuggly and sweet. She’s dreaming of cuddling in the big bed next to her favorite human. If you’re ready to meet a smart, spirited pup who’ll keep you on your toes and steal your heart, Posie’s your girl. If you are interested in adopting Posie, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Posie's adoption fee is $700 All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. [] will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees; we are non-profit. **Posie is a Legacy Dog. Legacy Dogs are highly adaptable dogs that can assist other dogs in our rescue with their vetting bills. Legacy dogs have a much higher desirability quotient. They're young, healthy and usually purebreds. These dogs leave a financial legacy for those animals who need extra help - whether they need extensive medical care or just a little more time to find a loving home. (And they still cost less than going to a breeder!) DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Story
Minnow came to DREAM after being dumped outside an animal shelter in a box. Luckily a Good Samaritan witnessed this and alerted the staff because the building was the old shelter building and is not being used! Minnow is around 6 months old is all puppy, all the time. His days are filled with full on play with his foster brother or full on nap mode. His whiskers make Minnow as cute as can be and accents the fun he has with all his puppy antics. He is a smart little guy catching on quickly to house training and is picking up how to walk on leash. Minnow meets new people with a wag of his tail as if to say “hello” He would make a wonderful addition to home with a family with at least 1 other dog who has the time and patience to guide him through his puppyhood. Rest assured, your investment will be awarded with years of love and canine adventures. If you are interested in adopting Minnow, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Minnow's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds.
