You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Babe is gentle and affectionate. She enjoys curling up on her dog bed for a nap but is equally happy spending time playing and running with other dogs. Babe stays close to her people and enjoys being part of their daily routine. She does not seem to mind cats and has shown good manners around them. A home with a securely fenced yard and another dog would be ideal for Babe, giving her space to safely play, explore, and relax. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Meet Pearl: Pearl is about an 8 year old (as of December 2025) dachshund / small dog mix (best guess) that weighs about 20 pounds. Pearl was in a small shelter in rural Tennessee when we heard about her and were able to get her into our rescue. Pearl is currently being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Pearl is the quintessential lap dog. Although estimated to be 8 years old, that hasn’t slowed her down. Pearl is not playful like a puppy, but she's not sedentary like a senior dog. Pearl was extremely shy when we first pulled her from the shelter, but has blossomed into one of the most sticky velcro dogs you could ever meet. Once you sit down --and sometimes before you sit down-- Pearl is in the chair with you. Pearl always prefers to be on your lap and if she's pushed out, she jumps right back in. Pearl can be a little yappy like some small dogs are and she can fuss at other dogs that compete for lap space, but her fussing is not threatening and can be amusing at times. We think Pearl would do best as an only dog. We think Pearl would probably be relatively quiet if she wasn’t competing for lap space. Pearl has been fine with cats that she has been around. Pearl is currently house trained to a doggie door and may need some patience while she transitions to another method. We would love for Pearl to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can run and play freely, but it is not a requirement. Pearl is up to date on her shots and spayed. This sweet, young boy was found running the streets on his own. He had no collar and no microchip and no owner ever came forward to claim him. He is very friendly and very smart and only 13 pounds. We think he is close to a year old. He loves other dogs, cats kids, horses… He never meets a stranger. He will make a great addition to any family and would really love to have another playful fun dog around. Meet Levi and his brother Luca — two nub-tailed nuggets with legs stubby enough and coats long enough that they just might be mistaken for blonde corgis. But these 2- to 3-month-old brothers are probably a mix of breeds. They were found wandering in rural Alabama with their mama — who weighs about 20 lbs and looks like a rat terrier/dachshund mix. The family was dumped outside right before the recent freeze, and sadly, the pups were likely never shown any human kindness prior to coming to rescue. Levi and Luca were very shy when they arrived at their foster home. They immediately loved the other dogs, but it took a few days to learn to trust the humans. Levi was the first to warm up, but Luca was a close second. The boys have gone from hiding in their own puppy pile to napping fully splayed out on their backs and waiting for belly rubs. Levi is slightly bigger and the more playful of the two. Levi loves to play with the other dogs while his brother Luca sometimes prefers to sit on a human lap and watch the action. Levi will be a great small to medium size when fully grown. Our guess would be anywhere from 30 to 40 lbs. He’s doing great with potty training and absolutely loves his crate. We would love to find Levi a forever home with a confident, friendly dog that could set a good example and be a best friend, but we’re open to human-only homes if the humans are willing to give Levi a little time to warm up. We don’t think it’ll take long! Personality and Energy Eeyore is a super sweet, gentle, playful pup who is generally relaxed but enjoys occasional play or short walks. He's content with light daily activity, making him adaptable to various lifestyles. He loves his chewy carrot toy, immediately loved his fluffy bed, and adores sitting by the window looking out at the world. Right now, he's also a big fan of ice cubes and his squeaky toys. Building Confidence Eeyore is curious but still shy and a little timid. All he needs is some calm, gentle encouragement to help his confidence grow. When he first arrived at his foster home, he was really scared of the outside stairs. Just a day later, his confidence had grown and he was going up and down most flights when going out for walks! This shows how quickly he can blossom with patience and support. Training and Intelligence Eeyore is very smart and is learning "sit." He's not super food motivated, but if you use a smelly treat like a roasted chicken stick, he pays more attention. Praise after doing something (like going up or down stairs or going potty) seems to make a real difference. He responds really well to correction and redirection, and he already knows "no." He's doing well with leash and crate training and is very good on a leash. He's not quite housetrained yet, but he's working on it and making progress with his smart, willing attitude.
