Story
Meet Pearl: Pearl is about an 8 year old (as of December 2025) dachshund / small dog mix (best guess) that weighs about 20 pounds. Pearl was in a small shelter in rural Tennessee when we heard about her and were able to get her into our rescue. Pearl is currently being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Pearl is the quintessential lap dog. Although estimated to be 8 years old, that hasn’t slowed her down. Pearl is not playful like a puppy, but she's not sedentary like a senior dog. Pearl was extremely shy when we first pulled her from the shelter, but has blossomed into one of the most sticky velcro dogs you could ever meet. Once you sit down --and sometimes before you sit down-- Pearl is in the chair with you. Pearl always prefers to be on your lap and if she's pushed out, she jumps right back in. Pearl can be a little yappy like some small dogs are and she can fuss at other dogs that compete for lap space, but her fussing is not threatening and can be amusing at times. We think Pearl would do best as an only dog.  We think Pearl would probably be relatively quiet if she wasn’t competing for lap space. Pearl has been fine with cats that she has been around. Pearl is currently house trained to a doggie door and may need some patience while she transitions to another method. We would love for Pearl to have a home with a fenced in yard so she can run and play freely, but it is not a requirement. Pearl is up to date on her shots and spayed. If your lap is feeling chilly and would like to have a cuddle buddy to add warmth, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
This unique 7 year old 25-pound Dachshund/Pit Bull mix has a white coat and a heart full of love for his favorite people. He is an exceptionally smart boy who is already house-trained and good at following some commands. He is leash trained and enjoys going on walks. While he is a champion snuggler, he can be selective about his friends. He has preferences for certain people and requires slow, proper introductions to other dogs. Because he values his personal space and predictable environments, he is looking for a calm, loving home without small children. He is being rehomed because our family has grown by two children. He recently bit our toddler when she got in his space. He has previously nipped at new people (when they were not using good dog etiquette). His defensive behavior seems to have increased since having children.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Babe is gentle and affectionate. She enjoys curling up on her dog bed for a nap but is equally happy spending time playing and running with other dogs. Babe stays close to her people and enjoys being part of their daily routine. She does not seem to mind cats and has shown good manners around them. A home with a securely fenced yard and another dog would be ideal for Babe, giving her space to safely play, explore, and relax. REQUIREMENTS:  MUST have a fenced yard,  MUST have another small dog Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Miles is 7 years old and was adopted from a local rescue at 10 weeks old. He bonded to our older dog without any issues but definitely calls the shots. As he has gotten older he has become more aggressive and intolerant of other dogs and house guests. We adopted a puppy last August and he does not tolerate him and must be secluded unless he goes outside to the bathroom. If you have him 1 on 1 he is a sweetheart but he needs a quiet home where there are no kids and no other pets. We love him but want what is best for him and our home environment is no longer suited for his needs.

Story
Meet Eleanor & Emma — the sweetest odd couple who must stay togetherEleanor is a 4-year-old dachshund with warm, soulful eyes and a heart full of love who weighs 13 pounds. Emma is her best friend, a 4-year-old English bulldog with a gentle, goofy charm with the cutest wiggle butt who weighs 49 pounds. Together, they’re a bonded pair who bring double the cuddles, double the smiles, and a lifetime of loyalty. These two are inseparable—Eleanor follows Emma like a shadow, and Emma looks out for Eleanor. They thrive as a team and must be adopted together. They adore people and are quick to greet anyone with wagging tails, soft eyes, and cheerful energy. They have tested well with other dogs, but are laid back, so would not appreciate a puppy in the home. At 4 years old, they’re young adults—past the puppy chaos but still playful, curious, and full of life. Expect lots of snuggles on the couch, casual strolls around the neighborhood, and happy, goofy antics when toys or treats appear. Eleanor loves to curl up close, while Emma often brings a calm, steady presence—like the perfect yin and yang. Together, they’re the kind of pair that turns a house into a home with their quiet companionship and sweet, affectionate ways. Do you have room in your home for this sweet pair? Story
Current Location: Strasburg, VA Estimated date of birth: 12/16/26 Hello! My name is Laird! I've just arrived at OPH. Please check back soon for updates on my personality, and to see adorable new photos. I'm searching for... * someone who won't leave me home alone for more than 4 hrs, at least not until I am older. The older I am the more I can stay home alone. I just don't want you to get mad at me if I have accidents or chew things I'm not supposed to when you leave me for too long. I'm a puppy, so I get bored quick and when I'm bored I could get in trouble. * I am looking for my forever home, not my for right now home. So as I get bigger I need someone to teach me how to be the best dog I can be. I am young and still learning. You may want to teach me some new tricks like sit, stay, etc. Professional training will help me bond with you. That sounds like fun! * I saved the most important for last. I am hoping my new mom or dad will snuggle with me, play with me and love me forever and ever! I'm making my way north in search of my new family. Is that with you? If so apply today because this cuteness won’t be around for long!
