Story
Meet Sunshine: Sunshine is about a 10 year old (as of May 2026) dachshund mix that weighs about 16 pounds. Sunshine was surrendered by her owner with 2 other companions when the owner could no longer keep them. Sunshine is now being fostered in the Parkesburg, PA area (as of June 6, 2026) and would love to meet her forever family. Sunshine came to us appearing to have been a well loved family pet. Sunshine is a consummate lap baby who is happiest in someone's lap or under the covers at night time. She's very gentle and would be great with kids. Sunshine is not showing her age at all. She's very active and runs around the yard with the best of them. Sunshine appears to be house trained. We would love for Sunshine to have a home with a fenced in yard for her to run and play freely. Sunshine did test heartworm positive and went through treatments. Sunshine is up to date on her shots and was spayed recently. If you are interested in sharing in Sunshine’s golden years and basking in some of her rays of light, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Babe is super sweet and adores playing with other dogs. She had come from a hoarding situation so she takes time to warm up to new people. She will only go to a home with another small dog because that is what she is used to and she LOVES playing. A fenced yard is also a MUST. Once babe decides your her "person" she absolutely loves you with everything in her :)  She would also do best with a home that dose not have people running in and out 24/7  as that can be a lot for her :) REQUIREMENTS:  MUST have a fenced yard,  MUST have another small dog   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Tempe, born in February, is a two-year-old Dorkie (Dachshund/ Yorkie mix). Named after the main character of the show, Bones, she is a small breed with a big personality. Although she is at first hesitant when meeting new people, once you gain her trust, you will have a new best friend and perfect lapdog. If you allow it, she will gladly sleep in your bed and loves burrowing under the covers. She loves other animals and just wants to play. She does fine with larger dogs, cats, and children. She is house broken but still has accidents, especially when not taken outside routinely. Although she always comes back home, she is a bit of an escape artist and has gotten out of our fence many times because it was built to keep our bigger dogs inside; therefore, you would need a fence that works for her or to keep her on a leash while outside. She travels well, loves to go for walks, enjoys chewing on bones and toys, and is crate trained.

Story
DOB 12-7-2024 Wolfie is a gorgeous Red and White Long Hair! This beautiful boy loves everyone, likes to play with toys and his friends. He is neutered, heartworm negative and has received a Proheart6 preventative injection, up to date on shots and is now looking for a loving home. His adoption fee is 900.00 and his transport fee is 135.00. HEARTS is our transport, they run every 2 weeks. It's the best transport and the only one we will use. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
