You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Babe is super sweet and adores playing with other dogs. She had come from a hoarding situation so she takes time to warm up to new people. She will only go to a home with another small dog because that is what she is used to and she LOVES playing. A fenced yard is also a MUST. DOB 12-7-2024 Wolfie is a gorgeous Red and White Long Hair! This beautiful boy loves everyone, likes to play with toys and his friends. He is neutered, heartworm negative and has received a Proheart6 preventative injection, up to date on shots and is now looking for a loving home. His adoption fee is 900.00 and his transport fee is 165.00. HEARTS is our transport, they run every 2 weeks. It's the best transport and the only one we will use. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Meet Cara! This adorable little 12-lb girl is loving, affectionate, and playful. Cara’s favorite activities include long walks, hikes, a good game of fetch or tug, and any opportunity to snuggle up next to her people. At night she may even want to sleep on your pillow! And when you come home, she will be right there to great you enthusiastically. She is very food motivated so should be quite trainable if you’d like her to learn obedience skills or tricks. This pint-sized cutie has done wonderfully with children and other pets, including large and small dogs as well as cats. However, she does intensely chase small critters outside, such as squirrels. She plays nicely with the other dog in her current home. With the kitties, she will either ignore them or gently sniff them or offer to play. She would prefer not to share her bed with another pet, but she is very polite about this and has never fought over her bed or anything else,. Cara does alert bark when people come to the home and in some other situations. Though it was becoming a bit excessive, her current family has been working with her on this and have found her amenable to learning new habits. This may be something her new family will want to continue working on, so if barking bothers you or any of your family members, Cara may not be the best fit for you. The barking also makes her not a good candidate for apartment living. Cara is about 18 months old and is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She had some GI issues that appear to be resolved and intermittently appears to favor her left hind leg. She is thought to be a Chihuahua/Dachshund/Chow mix, but this is purely a guess. She is mostly housetrained but needs a little help learning to “hold it” all night. She does like to sleep in her crate but would prefer not to be shut into it. For housetraining, we advise using an alternative to a crate, such as an exercise pen (no top, so therefore more open) or a small gated off area in a bedroom with one of her humans. This way she can learn and avoid making mistakes without the trauma of feeling isolated or confined. Cara’s current family took her in when her previous family gave her up. When I look at this little lady I see the most adorable little “semi-low rider” girl...just beautiful and I love her markings. Petra will be a lot of fun to the lucky family that adopts her! She is sweet, happy, spunky and good natured, but she is a little more shy than her sister. Still being a youngster, she loves nothing more but running around playing with the other pups and her toys. She enjoys being around people and gets along great with the other dogs. My wish for Petra is to be adopted by a fun and active family that will include her in their everyday comings and goings. Petra and her sister Penny (also posted) were pulled from a local animal shelter. Petra is 5 ½ months old (dob 4/4/26) and weighs 24 pounds at the time of this posting (9/18/26). She has been spayed, microchipped, fecal tested, current on all vaccinations, worming and is on heartworm and flea prevention. Her adoption fee is $400. Petra is being fostered in Tennessee. Once adopted she will be transported to her pickup location by a professional dog transport company. Our rescue ships to the New England area most weeks and her fee includes transportation. Due to state laws, we cannot accept applications from residents of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Maine since we can’t adopt directly to those states.
