This handsome little guy had a rough start after being found as an injured stray. Because of his injury, his tail had to be docked, but don't let that fool you. If Petey isn't sleeping, he's wagging what he has left with pure happiness! Life as a beloved pet is still a new adventure for Petey, and he's embracing it one day at a time. He has a big appetite and not just for food, but for love and attention, too. He adores being close to his people and is happiest curled up in a lap or soaking up affection. He's eager to please, even-tempered, and has been described by the veterinary staff as a "super sweet, happy boy." Like many former strays, Petey hasn't quite forgotten that food can be scarce. He's an enthusiastic little trash scavenger, so keeping tempting snacks and garbage out of reach will help set him up for success. Diesel - Dachshund/MicroBully - Male - 3 yrs - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Diesel: This 3-year-old Dachshund/Micro Bully (?) mix is a uniquely looking little guy. He is active and playful and LOVES playing with other dogs. When he's not playing, he likes burrowing into his dog bed or a blanket for a nap. Diesel is mostly house trained, and is getting used to his belly bands - he is quite clever and likes to rub himself on furniture to get "his pants" off of him. We have learned that Diesel more of a project dog than we anticipated, he is pretty scared of new people and new situations. His default at this time is barking and lunging at new people to make them "go away" and for the most part that has worked for him (We tend to remove a dog from a situation where he's loud and unruly, without realizing that in his case, that is what he wants, so his behaviour has worked for him). We are working with our trainer to help him gain confidence and learn to trust his handler and let them make decisions whether a situation/person is safe or not. Now, once you are in his circle - he can be bribed with treats - he is a Velcro sweetheart who wants attention and affection, but is also content to just hang out with you. He loves to cuddle as much as possible. Diesel is looking for a handler with a lot of dog experience, another dog for him to play with and opportunities for excursions and training to boost his confidence. Older kids may be ok, no small kids for him, please. He tends to be vocal with new noises or people, so apartment living with lots of new people would not work for him. He would love to to have his own yard to play in with his doggy playmate. Wendy is a beautiful red longhair girl who has completed her vetting and is ready, along with Peter Pan, for a foster home or forever home. She is a very timid and docile girl with a kind, gentle heart. Wendy loves attention and cuddles and is happiest when being held. She prefers the company of Peter Pan over other dogs and enjoys going on walks with him, and she can experience separation anxiety if they are apart. Wendy enjoys sunbathing outdoors, never turns down a treat, and is leash trained, crate trained, and baby gate trained. She is still working on her potty habits and tends to follow Peter Pan’s lead, but continues to make progress. This sweet girl is understandably scared and nervous as she tries to make sense of a world that is completely new to her. With patience, consistency, and kindness, China will need time to learn that she is finally safe. China has completed her initial vetting and heartworm treatment and is continuing to heal and gain confidence.
