Woody is a handsome 4-year-old, 15-pound red long-haired Dachshund who has already been through more than any dog should. He came to the shelter as a stray, sadly dragging his feet and struggling to walk normally. He spent almost a month waiting for someone to come for him, and thankfully, Dachshund Rescue of Houston did! Woody is now safe and resting comfortably in a loving foster home. He can walk, although he still has a funny gait, so for now he is enjoying some well-deserved Kennel rest to give his body the time it needs to heal completely. Despite everything he has been through, Woody hasn't let it dampen his spirits. He is a fun, friendly, affectionate boy who loves nothing more than being close to his people. He is a wonderful lap dog and especially enjoys being cuddled and rocked like a baby. Woody is housetrained, crate trained, leash trained, and does well in the car. He is playful and goofy, but also obedient, intelligent, eager to please, gentle, and even-tempered. He enjoys attention and affection and seems to have a naturally sweet disposition. We believe Woody could be a wonderful addition to a home with children, older adults, and other friendly dogs. For now, Woody's job is simple: rest, heal, get healthy, and enjoy being loved. Once his body catches up with his happy spirit, we think this special boy is going to make someone an absolutely wonderful companion. Woody has waited long enough for someone to choose him. This sweet girl spent her entire life being well loved in one home and was surrendered by a relative when the owner was unable to care for her. After a much needed dental, Brownie has started feeling so much better and savers the soft food she now eats, along with a soft, easy to eat treat now and then. Brownie would enjoy a quiet and calm place to land. She's very easy-going and not into drama! Someone who will let her nap and snuggle and never worry about winding up alone in a shelter again. Cannoli is an active girl who loves other dogs and plays hard with the other dachshunds in her foster home. She grew up as an only dog and is finally learning to play and chase around the yard to her heart's content. Cannoli was surrendered when she exhibited some nippy behavior with the men (husband and young teenaged son). She is a sweet girl, but it takes her a while to trust and we consider her somewhat slow to warm up to strangers. Once she knows you, she will stick like glue to her person. We don't recommend a home with small children; we feel that she has been through a lot in her short life that probably an adult only or young adult home is best. Other dogs are a plus and help her settle in and adjust. Once she knows and trusts you she only wants to please! She will require a little patience and understanding but she will make a wonderful lifelong companion. Consider giving her a chance, she is worth it!
