Story
Meet Frankie! Frankie is a 14-year-old black and tan male dachshund. Don't let his age fool you. He is a healthy boy and has a lot of love left to give. Sadly, Frankie's owner passed away and he was gloomy for quite a while. He initially refused to walk on a leash or acknowledge a toy. Today, he loves his morning and evening walks with our two dogs and has such a youthful, bouncy gait--nothing cuter! He excitedly alerts on squirrels, but realizes that his squirrel-chasing days are probably over and settles quickly back into the rhythm of the walk. There's something so precious about seeing him pick up a toy and carry it around with him now. He also has come to adore cuddling on the couch or in bed. He gets a little jealous when our dogs get attention, but is becoming more secure with time. Frankie still doesn't like being alone and will follow his fosters around to be in the same room. They suspect that's because of the sudden loss of his owner and believe it may take time for him to feel independent. Frankie is good with dogs and the children he meet on his walks. Please consider adopting sweet senior dog, Frankie as he needs a loving home to spend his final years. Frankie is a 14 year old male dauschund. He weighs 13lbs.

Story
Tommy, an elder black & tan dachshund, once shared his home with his sibling until their pet parent passed away. Despite his age, he remains youthful and in excellent health. Tommy embodies the term "Velcro dog," always preferring to be by your side whether you're cooking, watching TV, gardening, or strolling. He's diligently working on perfecting his house manners, alerting when he needs to go outside. While he generally gets along with cats, his reaction depends on the individual feline. His foster home has two senior cats, one blind and one deaf; he is getting along with them fine but they are dog friendly kitties. Tommy possesses a natural dachshund prey instinct, making him curious about anything that moves or reacts. He's sociable with other dog-friendly canines and enjoys playful interactions. He has another dog in the house he likes to play with. Tommy delights in carrying around a soft toy and has a hearty appetite. He loves his treats! Tommy, a seasoned gentleman, with sweet and affectionate personality seeks a new home where he can shower affection on his human companion and remain by their side. Medical: Tommy has chronic dryness in one eye and will require a very inexpensive eye drop given twice day; otherwise he is in excellent health for a senior. Tommy is a Male Dachshund that we estimate to be born around 2/2/2010 and weighs 17.6 lbs.

Story
We found Penny a few years ago hiding under our car, our neighbors had abandoned her. She's been a good little dog but we have a new baby in the family and unfortunately we think it's best if we re-home her. She is to the best of our knowledge half pitbull and half Weiner dog. She barks when people come to the door but once she sees someone check it out she'll stop and she doesn't bite new people. She's a bit nervous, we think because of her previous owners, and seems to be afraid of baseball caps for some reason. She needs to be slowly introduced to new animals and people, but once she is she's fine. She's kennel trained and will sleep in it at night and go to it if you tell her, "go to bed" I don't think she was treated well by her last family and it's made her a bit unpredictable, which is fine for adults because she's so small, but we worry about the baby now that she can confidentiality walk. She's been great with other kids who are old enough to be gentle.

Story
Heartworm Prevention is given on the 1st of each month Let's give a big CTDR welcome to sweet Reecie.  Reecie was surrendered to CTDR after her owner could no longer care for her.  Reecie's human dad passed away very suddenly and her human mom went back to work and could not care for her.  CTDR was honored to be asked to help find Reecie her forever home.  Reecie had a back injury a couple of years ago and while on crate rest, she decided to gnaw off her back legs.  Reecie is an active little girl as she has a set of wheels and also a Scooter that she gets around in.  Reecie is cautious when she meets new people and will slowly warm up to you on her time.  She is not fond of children so it would be best if she did not go to a home with kids.  If you are interested in giving this sweet girl her forever home, please complete an application at ctdr.org.                                                         Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 17, 2024, 11:49 pm

Story
Heartworm Prevention given on the 28th of each month Mickey is a very sweet boy. He enjoys lounging outside in the shade, belly rubs, and above all, cuddles. He likes lots of attention and is happiest when someone is there to snuggle with him. He's mostly a very quiet boy who doesn't join the other dogs when they bark. The only time he is talkative is when we are preparing his meals, making sure to let us know how excited he is. He has a tendency to be under foot and may inadvertently trip you. He is very responsive to the leash and loves to go walk around the front yard with us. He gets along great with the other dogs, but he highly prefers the company of people. He even gets excited when we go to the vet because he gets to see the techs. If you are looking for a new best friend, he's your guy.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 17, 2024, 11:49 pm

Story
Are you tired of that single life? Do you miss the pitter patter of little feet following your every move? Do you long to have someone's face pressed against the door while you shower? Do you hate having privacy when you go to the restroom? Look no further!    Cherry is a 3 year old Basset Hound looking for her forever family. Her hobbies include  toting around her stuffies, taking naps right where you need to walk, and eating cheese. She is housebroken, crate trained, knows basic commands, walks nicely on a leash, and is great with other dogs. The cats have given her a zero star review because she enjoys singing the song of her people to them.    Cherry was nearly shut down when she arrived here but has made great strides. She will need continued assistance and patience to help her grow more confident.  She is still very uneasy with being touched unexpectedly, so young children would be terrifying for her.   Cherry is currently with a trainer who has graciously offered complimentary phone consults with her new family as part of her commitment to helping her live her best life.  ##1874175##

Story
Howard is a very easygoing older fella who just wants to be around his humans. He gets along great with both his foster brother and sister but, when given the choice, would rather be following his humans around the house or sitting with them on the couch. He has spent time around his foster cousins (including two cats) and he was perfectly happy around them. He didn’t bark or growl at them but didn’t try to play with them, either. He is excellent about going outside to potty, even in the rain. Howard is super sweet and loves getting head scratches as a reminder that he’s a good boy. He gets very happy when he learns he is going on a car ride and will happily hop into the car all on his own. Please make sure you put the window down, though, because there is nothing better for him than hanging out the window and showing all of the other vehicles his wonderful basset ears flopping in the breeze. If Howard isn’t following his people around the house, he’s happiest sleeping on the couch. However, when it is bedtime, he goes into his crate and sleeps cozily through the night.  ##1883289##
