Story
Lump is a one-year-old black and tan smooth haired dachshund mix. He was rescued from the Houston streets after being abandoned when he was just two months old. We know that must have been a scary time for him because he still is tentative with strangers, both dogs and humans. Learning to trust will be an ongoing process for him. In contrast to how shy he is with strangers, he adores his foster family and their dogs and tries to get the old dogs in his foster home to play. If that doesn't work, he zooms around the house or outside where he has a little route he runs. One of his favorite pastimes is chasing squirrels, lizards and birds in the backyard. This athletic pup would do well in an active household ideally with a yard and playful companion. Another favorite activity of Lump's is playing with squeaky toys and chewing on his long-lasting collagen sticks, frozen bone marrow, or peanut butter-filled frozen Kongs. He sleeps in the bed with his foster parents, snuggles on the sofa, and takes long walks in the neighborhood and his favorite place, the Houston Arboretum. Lump is housetrained and crated when his foster family leaves the house to keep him from getting into "puppy trouble." Lump is a special dog and is looking for a home that will make him feel safe and loved.

Meet Your New Shadow! This petite red Chiweenie may only weigh 5 pounds, but she makes a big impression. Once she chooses her person,  (she does take a little time to warm up) she activates her next-level stalking skills — following you from room to room with total devotion and adoring eyes. She’s the kind of dog who just wants to be close — curled up in your lap, tucked under your arm, or trotting right at your heels. Don’t expect much alone time; she’s happiest when she’s part of your every move. She’s sweet, loyal, and full of personality — the perfect match for someone who’s ready to be loved all day, every day.  Potty Training Disclosure: Our dogs are not free-roaming in homes. "Potty trained" indicates reliable crate training, not confirmed free-roam house training. Accidents may occur during the transition to a new home, and additional training should be expected.  ##2574965##

Meet Buster Brown! Breed: DachshundGender: MaleAge: Senior (will be 9 years old in September)Size: Small (11 lbs)Good with: People, chill dogs who appreciate relaxed vibes Buster Brown loves people and has been in a home his whole life—which makes it all the more heartbreaking that due to some unfortunate circumstances, he finds himself looking for a new home in his golden years. This sweet senior boy deserves a soft landing after a lifetime of being someone's beloved companion. Buster is potty trained, likes to go in the car, and walks well on a leash—basically, he's already the perfect companion and just needs someone to give him a chance. He loves snuggles and likes to be held like a baby, soaking up every ounce of affection you're willing to give. He's affection to the max and will become the shadow you didn't know you needed, following you around and making sure you're never alone. He isn't huge into toys—Buster is really more of a people pleaser. His happiness comes from being near you, not from squeaky toys or games of fetch. He gets along well with other dogs who share his views on snuggles and relaxed vibes, making him a great fit for homes with other mellow dogs or as a devoted only dog. At 11 pounds and approaching 9 years old, Buster is the perfect lap-sized senior who just wants to spend his golden years being loved and cherished. He's already house-trained, well-mannered, and ready to settle into a new home without the chaos of puppy training or behavioral issues. Buster Brown has so much love left to give, and he deserves to spend his senior years in comfort and security! Ready to welcome Buster Brown into your life? Contact us to meet this wonderful boy! Disclaimer: The information in this profile reflects observations made while this dog has been in our shelter environment. We strive to describe each dog as accurately as possible; however, behavior and needs may change once the dog is in a new home, routine, or environment. Our dogs are not freeroaming in homes. The application to adopt can be found at www.happyfacespetranch.org Once your application has been approved, a representative will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. Story
Rosco is a handsome hunk who loves to eat, walk, and go for car rides. He's outgoing and gets along well with just about everyone. Rosco is healthy and happy, even though the vet put him on a diet. He's about 4 years old and will make a fun companion for years to come. Foster Update: Hi, I'm Rosco, and I'm looking for a loving family to adopt me. I have a terrific deep baritone bark that reverberates through the house. I usually stop when my belly gets rubbed, but sometimes I just like to let those built up barks out for a few minutes. I've found myself in a situation where I'm quite fluffy (76 pounds), so I need an owner who will not be guilt tripped by my sad soulful eyes when they are eating. My foster parents add cooked green vegetables to my kibble for filler, and I gobble them up.  I need to stay on a strict diet to achieve my peak health. Apart from having a few extra pounds, the vet gave me a clean bill of health. I was very well behaved for the vet and let them poke and prod and even cut my nails without making a fuss. Although my ears are long, they are not long enough to get dirty, so I'm a pretty clean basset hound. Also, I'm not a "drooly" dog, so you don't need to constantly wipe my mouth like some dogs. I have a naturally clean, fresh doggie scent and not a strong dog odor. I'm very friendly to those I meet, and I enjoy relaxing and watching TV with my foster parents. Some nights I sleep in bed with my humans, and some nights I stay in dog bed on the floor. When I want to go for a walk, I can walk half a mile no problem. However, I like to go at my own pace, so don't be a rush because I love to note all the smells that other dogs leave behind as if we are on a scavenger hunt. I'm 100% potty trained. I love to go in the car and behave myself quite well there. When left alone during the day, I sleep and am not destructive to your property. When you arrive home, I'm super excited to give you attention and tell you how much I've missed you and how much I love you. I do well with other dogs and would prefer to be in a pack. When around other dogs, I'm a good follower and do not need to be alpha. I very much enjoy roaming freely in a fenced backyard, and I even run at top speed if I have another dog to play with me. My foster dad likes to tease that I’ve got two brain cells, and they don’t even fire at the same time. In response I will quote Mark Twain: “When you fish for love, bait with your heart, not your brain.” If you think we would be a good match, fill out an application and tell them Rosco sent you.  ##2677809##

Story
Walter is a big boy (about 65 pounds of pure Basset) with an incredibly sweet and gentle nature. He's a true couch companion who loves to sit by the window and watch the world outside. He's very people-oriented and will happily follow you from room to room. When visitors arrive, he gets talkative and playful, showing off his friendly personality. Despite his size, Walter is very well mannered. He appreciates a good nap and a relaxed routine, and he loves his daily treats and human attention. Walter will make some lucky family a gentle, loyal companion. ##2656742##
