Story
Heartworm Prevention is given on the 3rd of each month UPDATE: Little Man , known as Stan:   Stan is 11-years young with a lot of love to give and lives for the simple joys in life: a cozy couch, a good daily walk, and a person he can trust. He is housetrained, crate-trained at night, great around other dogs, and happiest when he's right by your side at home or riding in the car.  Stan does have some special quirks. He has separation anxiety and doesn’t like to be left alone—he’ll make his feelings known if he's scared or uncomfortable, sometimes by growling or even biting. Because of this, Stan is looking for an experienced, patient adopter who understands canine body language and can provide a calm, adult-only home with a predictable routine.  In the right environment, Stan is a deeply loyal little shadow who just wants to be loved and feel safe. If you’re home most of the time and have the heart to help a senior dog feel secure, Stan might be your perfect match.  Little Man, also known as Stan the Man, has found himself back in Rescue.  His adopter had picked him up as he had many times before and Little Man nipped him in the face, but since then he has not had any other incidents.  We would recommend a home with NO children.   Meet Little Man!  This handsome senior boy was surrendered to the shelter by his owners as they no longer wanted him.  CTDR was contacted and we immediately said yes and his foster Mom went right away to get him.  He has started his vetting process and as soon as he is neutered and microchipped he will be ready for his forever home.  Could that be you?  If so, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org. Story
Heartworm Prevention is given on the 27th of each month China is a new arrival to CTDR.  This sweet girl was part of an 80 dog breeding- hoarding situation.  She is very scared and nervous as she cannot understand what is going on. China has completed her initial vetting but sadly she did test positive for those nasty heartworms and will need to go through treatment before she can be adopted. She is a big girl and will need to go on Weight Watchers to lose a few pounds.  If you would like to add China to your family, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org. Story
ProHeart Injection was given on 8/10/2025 Meet Rosie, a new arrival to CTDR.  The sweet young girl was found walking the streets of North Texas and taken to the nearest shelter.  Poor Rosie has a lots of hair loss on her belly and her legs and neck.  At first the vets thought it might be demodex mange, ( this is not the contagious one) or a flea allergy but both were ruled out and she was diagnosed with Atopic Dermatitis which is an allergic skin condition which can be caused by grass, certain dog foods etc.  She has been started on several medications to help with the hair loss, the skin and the itchiness.  You can see where her hair is coming back in her underneath area.  Rosie has had all of her vaccines and has been spayed and is ready for a forever home.  She will need to stay on her medications and get regular oatmeal baths until her skin has cleared up.  If interested in Miss Rosie, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org. Story
Heartworm Prevention is given on the 22nd of each monthUPDATE:  Nugget2 has found himself back in Rescue through no fault of his own.  The adopter could no longer care for him after him being with her for over a year.  He was not kept up to date on his vaccines so he will start his vetting process this week and then will be ready for his foster home.  He will need someone who can be patient with his little quirks. Nugget is truly a sweet dog, though he does face some challenges that may not entirely resolve over time. More information on his background may help explain some of his issues. For instance, he occasionally barks at what seems like nothing, and it's hard to pinpoint why. Despite this, he's comfortable at my home. He enjoys his outings, though he tends to walk very slowly, exploring the outside mostly through his sense of smell due to his limited hearing and vision. He navigates his environment cautiously, often not responding visually or audibly when called, which suggests he may not fully perceive where sounds or movements are coming from.  Nugget is still working on his house training and currently wears a belly band to manage any accidents effectively. There have been a few instances where he's had accidents on his bed and mine, particularly if the band shifts.  Additionally, Nugget is quite shy around new people and other dogs, often expressing his nervousness through a distinctive crying bark when he's in their presence.  Nugget can be quite selective with his food preferences, and it seems he may have been in an environment where he had to compete and fight for his food. He did not want to eat the hard food or the treats (Nulu brand) that I initially offered. To accommodate his tastes, I visited a specialty food store and purchased some freeze-dried food, which he thoroughly enjoys. I've also introduced some knee bones to his diet, and he seems to love those as well. Now, when I feed him, he approaches his meals with great fervor, very eagerly consuming his food as if it's a rare treat.   Additionally, I am continuing with his prescribed steroid medication as directed.  Nugget continues the habit of walking in circles, which appears to have a soothing effect on him, and responds with excitement and tail wagging whenever I express affection towards him.  Nugget has been with his foster family for a few months now. He loves laying outside on a sunny day and cuddling on your lap. Nugget does walk in circles sometimes and is still working on potty training. He doesn't mind wearing a belly band and likes wearing a calming jacket. Nugget specializes in being ridiculously adorable and would love a forever home. He does fine with his foster siblings Duncan the dachshund and Sophie Chiweenie.   Nugget is a new arrival to CTDR as an owner surrender due to his owners not being able to care for his special needs.  He does have hydrocephalus which causes him to have a dome shaped skull caused by cerebrospinal fluid that has leaked inside the skull.  He is currently on medication to help him with his coordination and other issues.  He is the cutest little guy and would love to have a foster or a forever home by Christmas.  If interested in this precious little guy, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org.
