Story
Hearstworm Prevention is given on the 17th of each month Sometimes you just know. You know when you’re supposed to help, when a dog needs us and when our community can step in and save a life.  The story of Eli is one of those times. CTDR family, meet one of our new pups, Eli.  Oh, what a story this guy has! Fate, and a dog named Sugar, brought Eli to us at CTDR a few weeks ago.  Sugar was our initial pull and interest, and, while we were ON THE PHONE with a tiny shelter near Galveston about Sugar and her poor condition, in walks a gentleman into the shelter lobby with sweet Eli in his arms.….for euthanasia.  Eli was scheduled that fateful day for euthanasia due to “bad health” per his owner. They’d made an appointment and had arrived right on time to send Eli across the bridge….it just wasn’t meant to be for this little guy that day.  His next chapter was actually about to begin! While on the phone discussing Sugar and her grave condition, the shelter let us know this was actively happening in their lobby at the very same moment. They asked if we could take two dogs and we said YES immediately!  With consent to place Eli in rescue instead of euthanizing, his owner, of probably his entire life, turned and walked out the door.  At that moment, Eli became a CTDR pup and has been in our care ever since.  We know Sugar brought Eli to us as her final act of love and compassion, as only dogs can do.   It was her job to help him find his way to us and she succeeded in helping him before she peacefully crossed the bridge the next day due to her health.  Eli is a senior pup, paperwork says 12 yrs old, but his foster parents think he may be closer to 14-15 years old. We are working on his care plan now, as he has some medical needs to be addressed, but he’s in foster care and thriving!     Eli: Loves donuts more than anything Loves sleeping on soft, cushy surfaces  Has a hitch in his step, which is adorable when he walks or “runs” His fur is coming back in soft and fluffy with some basic good nutrition  He’s pretty speedy for his age  Food is life, feeding time is a giant celebration    Welcome Eli to CTDR, he is loved and cherished and we’re happy to have saved him!       Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 3, 2024, 9:26 pm

Story
Heartworm Prevention is given on the 27th of each month China is a new arrival to CTDR.  This sweet girl was part of an 80 dog breeding- hoarding situation.  She is very scared and nervous as she cannot understand what is going on. China has completed her initial vetting but sadly she did test positive for those nasty heartworms and will need to go through treatment before she can be adopted. She is a big girl and will need to go on Weight Watchers to lose a few pounds.  If you would like to add China to your family, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org. Story
Heartworm Prevention is given on the 12th of each month Meet Eunice, the newest arrival to CTDR.  This beautiful 8 year old lady was found as a stay in the North Texas area and taken to the nearest shelter in hopes her family would come for her.  When that did not happen CTDR was contacted to see if we would have room for her and of course we said yes.  Unfortunately Eunice did test positive for those nasty heartworms but due to a heart murmur, the vet recommended just letting her stay on heartworm prevention rather than her go through the grueling treatment. If interested in giving this beautiful girl her forever home, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org.
