Meet Cove: The Velvet-Covered Shadow You Never Knew You Needed At 36 pounds, Cove is basically the dachshund equivalent of a weighted blanket—black, seal-skin soft, and scientifically engineered to make you never want to get up from the couch again. She’s 3 years old, which means she’s outgrown the “eat your shoes” phase but still young enough to zoomie like she’s in training for the Wiener Dog Grand Prix. Her hobbies include: Gluing herself to your side like an emotional support barnacle Melting hearts with floppy ears and soulful eyes Pretending she’s not spoiled while absolutely being spoiled Cove’s dream? A forever home with a couch, a lap, and a human who understands that “personal space” is just a myth. Adopt her, and you’ll never go to the bathroom alone again, lucky you. Story
Meet Roxy! Tangy like your favorite salsa 🌶,, and as sweet as a celebratory birthday cake 🎂,,. Roxy is truly delectable. Roxy is a small, adorable dog with a large, delightful, and bold personality! She adores meeting new people (preferably adults and older children) and, when petted, wriggles her tushie with delight. She enjoys the company of most dogs and would welcome a meet and greet with other dogs that reside in the household. Roxy has demonstrated impeccable house manners - that is, she sleeps quietly through the night, is not destructive, and does not show signs of separation anxiety. She loves to explore, whether it be indoors or outdoors, yet also enjoys quiet time simply cuddling and resting. She is a very entertaining gal who looks forward to a foster or an adopter who will provide her the love, warmth and comforts of a home that she so richly deserves. So, c'mon and add a delicious Roxy spice to your life, complemented with an abundance of sweetness, and see for yourself all the love and joy she has to offer. Questions About this Animal? PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: submit an adoption questionnaire and an adoption coordinator will reach out LOCATION: Foster home ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Sue B (sueb@homewardtrails.org) ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for this dog: $475 ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 17 lbs full grown now ESTIMATED AGE: 3 years old approx KNOWN WITH DOGS: Sandy does well with other dogs and will need another dog in the home. She LOVES to wrestle and play with her foster dog sister - loves it! KNOWN WITH CATS: Sandy came from a home originally with a lot of cats and met several in her first foster home, so she is likely to do well with them. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Sandy came from a home with young kids and did great. However, she has proven very shy with strangers so she might do best with kids 10 years and up. KNOWN COMMANDS: She is learning "come" and "potty" KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Sandy is good about housebreaking, but does not yet go to the bathroom on leash unless you give her a good amount of time. However, she is currently fostered in the city and would much prefer a quieter neighborhood. She is good about going at the dog park and will use a pee pad 100% if put down for urinating. She is 100% perfect in her crate all night and when left alone. KNOWN LIKES: Playing, treats, napping, chewing, and romping in the sun. She LOVES to cuddle and will lay on top of you if you let her. Once she bonds she is a velcro dog and loves nothing more than to get pets and kisses and cuddles on the couch. KNOWN DISLIKES: Sandy still gets spooked by loud noises outdoors - loud trucks, sirens and some strangers. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Sandy gave birth to her two tiny pups, Nick and Nora, just before Christmas, but they are now weaned and Sandy is ready to find a family of her own. Sandy is nervous around new people, but once she gets to know you, she becomes a wiggly ball of love. She is a small girl who likes walks, tummy rubs, and the finest of chicken treats. While she will take a bit to warm up, it won't take too long and once she knows you she is a goofy, playful, cuddly girl who is great indoors. She would prefer a home with a yard or some fenced area as she has not yet mastered going to the bathroom on leash but we feel she may master this sooner in a quiet neighborhood so we will consider apartments if the neighborhood is quiet! ------ HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: -Spay/Neuter -First 3 distemper series vaccines and dewormings -Rabies vaccine* age appropriate at time of adoption -Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees -Current on heartworm preventative -Current on flea/tick preventative ---- EXCLUSIVE HTAR ADOPTER BENEFITS: -$15 off your first chewy order of $49.00 or more -Exclusive pet insurance offers - $250 coverage at any VCA Hospital in the country -COMPLIMENTARY FIRST EXAMS at 10 DC-Area veterinarians - Free year-round dog training - KEEP YOUR PET SAFE: Homeward Trails is proud to offer PetLink GPS trackers that will allow you to know where your pet is in real time.**Exclusive for HT Adopters (does not include subscription plan): $50 Check it out here: https://landing.petlink.net/gps-dog-tracker -A portion of EVERY ADOPTION FEE supports spay/neuter efforts in under resourced communities -Free doggy day care offers -EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNTS for Homeward Trails events and merchandise -Win a $50 Amazon gift card

Story
Puppies! They are so cute! But, are you ready?Along with the fun and excitement they bring, getting a puppy is a big responsibility. They can be a 10-to-15+ year commitment. They need to be trained to fit into your family including leash walking, housebreaking, basic commands and expectations. Training does not happen quickly. It takes time and consistency. They require initial and yearly vet exams and vaccinations. Socializing your puppy is also very important, as it can help them become comfortable around new animals, people, and environments. We ask that you take into consideration all of these things before deciding to adopt a puppy. Consider the following:Are you able to consistently train your puppy? Will everyone in your household work together to take care of the puppy? Are you prepared for your puppy to grow into a bigger dog?Are you willing to clean up the messes that your puppy will make? Are you ready for vet bills to keep up with their vaccinations and care? How are you going to socialize your puppy? Are other animals in your household able to tolerate a new puppy? If you’re ready to take on the responsibility and experience the JOY of bringing home a new puppy, come out to the shelter and meet your new best friend!

Story
Meet Stevie – Your New Little Shadow 💕 Stevie is a 3-year-old Chiweenie with a heart as big as her adorable ears! This 12-pound sweetheart was found as a stray, but despite her rough start, she proved to be the most devoted mama. Stevie lovingly raised six healthy puppies and took amazing care of each one. Now that her babies are growing up, it’s finally her turn to be spoiled. Stevie is the definition of a lap dog. Her favorite place in the world is curled up next to her person, soaking up all the love and attention she can get. She has the sweetest, gentle personality and will happily follow you around the house just to be near you. She gets along well with other dogs and would do great in a home with canine friends or as your one-and-only cuddle companion. At about 12 pounds, she’s the perfect little size for couch snuggles, movie nights, and tagging along on daily adventures. Stevie is located in Texas. Her adoption fee is $195 local or $395 out of state with transport and includes current shots, microchip, spay and heartworm test. If you are interested in adopting Stevie please complete the adoption application at the link below. If you have any questions email us at sgdrsa@outlook.com.
