Story
Meet Peyton! Peyton was part of an abandoned family of pups we rescued this winter. She and her mate, Woody, had been surviving outside in the bitter cold when we found them. Peyton was very pregnant and in need of immediate help. Thankfully, we got them to safety just in time for her to deliver her puppies in a warm, loving foster home. Now that her pups are weaned and she’s been spayed, Peyton is officially retired from motherhood and ready to begin her next chapter, finding a forever home of her own. Peyton has been in her local foster home for almost a month, living with her foster parents and two small dogs. She integrated easily into the pack and enjoys the company of other pups. She’s a young, playful girl who would love to have a canine companion in her new home to keep her company and share in her adventures. Kristin, her foster mom, describes Peyton as having a great personality. She can be a little shy at first, but with just a little attention, she settles in quickly and builds trust. She’s a fun little low rider who enjoys playing fetch and loves her toys. She's housetrained, crate-trained, and sleeps in her crate at night. She has a moderate energy level - she's happy romping around with her foster siblings, but also enjoys cuddling up on the couch for some downtime. She’s very enthusiastic about giving kisses, and Kristin is working with her on moderation. Peyton has started going on regular leash walks and seems to really enjoy them. She loves the outdoors and greets new people and dogs with ease.   FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 5/4/25 "Peyton is super sweet, loves to cuddle, and watches out our front window, taking everything in. She’s a good eater and sleeps soundly through the night. She loves to give kisses, sometimes too much, so we are working on that.  She's been great with our pack, and we've even had some playdates with neighborhood dogs. She would do best with a dog buddy who will play with her. She loves to run around and explore the yard with the other dogs.  Petydon has done great with house training, no accidents at all, and enjoys her walks too. I have not noticed fear of traffic or cars that have gone by us while walking. She is more curious about people and wildlife. Otherwise, she is a pretty confident walker." ********* Peyton is a lovely little dog with goodwill toward everyone she meets. She’ll make a wonderful, affectionate companion, and a perfect pup buddy, too.  Apply today! Story
Meet Amelia. This sweet girl was surrendered to a rural county shelter along with two other pregnant dogs from the same home. Stories like this break our hearts—three expectant moms under one roof, likely the result of unaltered male and female dogs living together. When the shelter reached out for help, Worthy Dog Rescue stepped in. We took in Amelia, and one of our partner rescues welcomed her puppies, ensuring this little family gets the bright future they deserve. Thankfully, Amelia was able to deliver her puppies in the safety and comfort of a foster home, where she proved to be an attentive, loving mom. It was immediately clear that she adores people—she’s affectionate, cuddly, and always eager for human companionship. She also has excellent doggy social skills, getting along with every pup she meets. Currently, she’s in a foster home with a larger dog and three cats. Her foster mom describes her as a very friendly pup who adjusts well to new situations—"A couple of sniffs, and she’s good to go!" She enjoys playdates with a neighbor’s dog and loves romping around with her foster sibling. Amelia is still a young pup, with all the energy and enthusiasm of adolescence. She’s always up for an adventure—whether it’s a walk (which she loves!), a road trip, backyard zoomies, or a car ride. She’s social, confident, and the perfect sidekick for an active household. But when the day winds down, she’s also a champion cuddler, happiest curled up on the couch with her favorite human. She sleeps soundly through the night, nestled in a cozy ball on her foster parent’s bed. House manners? Amelia has them! She’s fully house-trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. She tolerates the crate for treats (even if it’s not her favorite), and her leash skills are decent—she may pull a little when excited to meet a new dog, but only out of friendly enthusiasm. Her foster parents crate her when they leave her home alone to avoid her getting into mischief. Her foster mom describes her as medium energy—she’s playful and active but also respectful of the older dog in the home, knowing when to settle down and entertain herself with a toy or nap.  We think that Amelia would thrive in an active home with another playful pup and maybe some kids to romp around with. She’s a fantastic family dog just waiting for the perfect match. Apply today! Story
Meet Morgan! This sweet girl is a Hurricane Helena survivor whose life was turned upside down when her family lost their home. Living in a camper with two toddlers and other pets, they made the difficult decision to surrender Morgan so she could have a better chance at the life she deserves.  Morgan is a friendly, social pup who’s great with kids, cats, and other dogs. She’s loving, adaptable, and ready to start her next chapter with a forever family. Since arriving in her Carolina foster home just over a week ago, Morgan has adjusted beautifully. She’s living as an only dog and has shown she’s house-trained, quiet, and respectful of boundaries and belongings. She only hops on the couch when invited and is quickly picking up new routines. Like many young dogs, she can get a little excited and jump up to greet you, but she’s eager to learn and improving each day. Morgan’s foster mom describes her as an affectionate pup who loves giving kisses and always has a wagging tail for you. She has a moderate energy level, enjoys spending time outside, and is working on her leash manners. Morgan loves chasing balls and can entertain herself indoors with toys. She already knows commands like “sit” and “wait,” and while she can be a little mouthy at times, she responds well to gentle correction. Crate training is still a work in progress. While she sleeps soundly in her crate at night, she initially protested when crated during the day. However, she’s improving with each experience and learning to settle more quickly. In her previous home, Morgan lived with dogs, cats, and kids, and her confident, happy personality shines through. We think she’d thrive in a family with other pups or children to play with. If you’re looking for a sweet, social companion, Morgan might just be your girl. Morgan will be coming to the DC metro area on 5/31. Apply today! Adoption Day: May 24th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM — an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Little Piglet joined our crew to add some fun into the mix!  She is a very sweet, mostly quiet, and enjoys being right by your side.  Does very well in a car for extended road trips & is baby friendly and kid friendly!  She tends to think she's larger than life when playing with our resident GSD but is learning her limits and enjoys interacting with all family members.  A little shy of stairs initially, we have mastered going both UP and DOWN all the stairs.  My little thump thumps are too cute, my foster mommy says at least.  I am working on potty training and I walk so close to you that a leash is only an accessory.   Relatively low maintenance for walking and would be a great companion to anyone wanting a little mate with a LOT of love to offer <3   Some pups may stick around until 11:00 AM for the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! ##2379416##

Delia is your girl! Delia is a small, shy young girl who will blossom quickly as she gains confidence with her new family. She has excellent leash manners and is fully potty trained! Once she warms up, she's a velcro dog preferring to be (in rank order): on her human's lap, next to her human on the couch, sleeping with her human, or snoozing in her crate. She knows a handful of commands (upsies, leash up, crate, house, and come here) and is quickly expanding her vocabulary. She has asked us to tell you she is particularly motivated by chicken bits. Outside in the yard, she is a typical dachshund—going wherever her nose takes her and finding 'treasures' in the backyard for her foster mom. Delia also likes to dig and could be an excellent companion to a gardener with the right training. She gets along well with other dogs, loves playgroups, and has successfully cohabitated with a cat. She is also a fan of road trips and does well in the car.

(*Please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending each event.*) Hi. I'm Alderson. My namesakes include towns in West Virginia and Oklahoma and a federal prison camp. Not sure what to make of that one, as I'm one well-behaved pup! I'm here at Lost Dog looking for my forever home. I've got the charming good looks and petite frame of my fellow dachshunds. I take advantage of my size with frequent requests to be carried -- I prefer to travel in style. The big, wide world can be a bit scary for a little fellow like me, so I'm looking for a family that can be patient as I adjust to my new surroundings, sniff all the scents, and figure out how to fit in. In return, I promise lots of love and loyalty.
