She’s potty trained! Story: Monkey was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Monkey is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Monkey is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Monkey will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Monkey is just the sweetest. She’s potty trained and hasn't had any accidents in the apartment. She's done great with other dogs as well as cats at her temporary foster (!!). Monkey's favorite thing is belly rubs and meal times! Monkey doesn't need any fancy outdoor area (she’d be a great apartment dog), just your love, attention, and the occasional stroll around the neighborhood. Don't let her gray face fool you, though! Monkey has her bouts of energy where she still gets those zoomies and wants to play catch with her favorite mouse toy. She's also content with just sleeping and watching over what you're doing, and she's done fantastic alone as well at home whenever I run errands or am out with friends. My favorite thing about her is that she'll get under the covers and snuggle there the whole night, so if you ever wanted your own personal, soft heater, you'll find it in her. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. With Kids: (Not yet tested – can be assessed if needed) With Dogs: Very social; approaches first to give playful signals. With Cats: No aggression; friendly and shows positive interest. 🏡 Living Habits Potty Training: Likely lived chained outdoors before, but does not show excessive marking. Prefers to go near or on pee pads; may mark over spots where other dogs have marked. Toys: Not particularly toy-focused, but enjoys small plush toys and playing with items like towels or light T-shirt material. Separation/Barking: May whine or bark a little when left in a separate space, but calms down quickly. Walks: Slight leash pulling but walks well overall. She is very outgoing, happy, and loves attention. She, along with her two daughters, Carob & Cameo, were found in a parking area close to a storage business along with several other dogs. These 3 were happy and friendly and went running up to my foster…one even jumped in the car! Cleo was in season and Carob was obviously pregnant…dogs running the street when the owners should have taken the responsibility to take care of them. All 3 dogs are lucky…my foster found them and asked to bring them to our ranch. Carob is due to have her pups any day and Cleo & Cameo are vaccinated, spayed, and eating good. Now all they need is a forever home and that’s where you come in. Please give these wonderful dogs a chance. This dog is CURRENTLY IN TEXAS and available for pre-adoption.
