Story
Please contact Nancy Logan (nancyl@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.HOWARD   Come meet Howard and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (July 28th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904)!     Male 16.2 pounds Best guess for breed: Dachshund and terrier mix Best guess for age: 2 years as of April 2024   The fosters who have been fortunate enough to spend time with Howard are in total agreement on this: Howard is a great little dog!   In the home, he is a well-mannered house guest, such an easy foster dog. No attempts to counter surf, dig in the yard, or bark. Understands outside is for potty. Is crated overnight and when his foster is out of the house; goes in willingly and chills. When his fosters are working, he will play with one of the other dogs if allowed; if not, or when he has burned off his energy, he will chill quietly at his foster's feet. Is very eager to please, responds well to 'uh-uh' or 'no' if he starts doing something his foster doesn't want him to do.   He is wonderful with other dogs and loves to play! He has been BFFs with resident dogs in foster including a 60-pound pup, a 8-pound scruffy terrier mix, and a 19-pound dog - and he matched all their play styles wonderfully. Howard has a tiny 5-pound foster brother who wanted to be with him in his crate. Howard was game for it - he snuggled up with the little pup.    And he is truly lovely with his humans.  Once he understands 'this is my home now, this is my human' - he turns into a greedy snuggle monster. Sit on the floor at your own risk; he jumps into your lap and bombards you with kisses on your chin. He may be just under 16 pounds, but he's compact and muscular, so you have this dense little bundle of sheer love in your lap and it just feels so good. He just wants so much to bond with his humans, to please them.    Another reason he is exceptional: He is such a smart and brave boy. It is likely that he came from a situation where he spent his life in a home and yard. He was not socialized properly. As a result, so many things are new and scary to him. Crowded adoption events, in the middle of a strip mall with cars and trucks passing by - he gets overwhelmed. Both his fosters live on DC side streets near busy centers, and all those vehicles - from mopeds illegally speeding on the sidewalk to Metrobuses rumbling by - are a lot to take in. Even a woman simply toting a stroller down her front steps - caution! He loves being indoors and in fenced backyards and needs support to acclimate to being in more open city spaces.    Where does the smart and brave come in? He learns fast! He met Foster #2 on the sidewalk and pulled away fearfully. Two minutes later, when he was off the scary sidewalk and inside his new foster home, he jumped into his new foster's lap and gave her kisses. Foster #2 spent a day coaxing him outside to walk him up and down the sidewalk in front of her home. Less than 24 hours after he arrived, he was pulling on the leash in front of his foster, eager to see more - what was around the corner, what was across the road. And he was indignant when he was not invited to join an evening walk with the foster's two resident dogs. Howard is still scared of new things on walks, still shies away from new people - but he is so brave and keeps pushing himself because he knows there is a big world out there and he wants to see it.    The moral of this story? If you meet Howard at an event - know that the shy, scared dog in front of you is not the real Howard. The real Howard is a playful and loving little ball of happiness. He needs humans who are extra loving and patient, ready to support him during his acclimation period. Who will walk him up and down in the same place as often as he needs, sit with him on the sidewalk as long as he wants to watch and take in everything around him, help him build his experience and confidence. And will give him all the snuggles he wants and accept all the kisses he gives.    What do you say? Is this fantastic little pup the one for your home and your heart? (and at 16 pounds - your lap!)   Gets Along With:   Howard loves being with other dogs.  He hasn't been seen with cats but can be tested. Please see below about living with young children.    Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations:  We would be cautious placing Howard in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.    TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. Story
This little pretty chocolate dappled girl is called Mazie and goodness what a cracker jack she is.  Don’t for minute let those green eyes and chocolate marbled coat fool you to think she is gentle or easy.  She is the CEO of dogs and will run the show at your house if given the chance.  Mazie is 20 pounds and 9 months old.  She is a breed mix of Dachshund and Basset Hound we are told.  Her pics make her look big but she is a “tiny but mighty” little girl.  Mazie is not a fan of any other female dogs in her life or around her.  We don’t know where that came from but the dislike is there so we say…don’t ignore the warning.  She is great with big male dogs, not good with other small dogs or cats, but loves people deeply and wants to be around them.  She needs a fenced yard because she is a runner as most Dachshunds can be and she needs to be able to run and play and get her energy out daily.  Older children would be better for her and she is crate trained, 90% housebroken and she adores going for walks; a very good girl on a leash we can say.  She is beautiful but a “tad” bit complicated, which is why we have outlined the Likes and Dislikes of this girl to a TEE!  We want the right and perfect home and there are lots out there that can give her that.  Tiny but Mighty little Mazie is ready for a home NOW!  Please email us at Critter Cavalry Rescue : ccrnewengland@gmail.com  Tell us where you live when you email asking for information and an application. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.July 26, 2024, 2:09 pm

Story
Brownie is as sweet as can be. He is a snuggle monster. Brownie loves to play with balls. He should be the only dog in the house as he doesn't really like other dogs. He has never bitten another dog, but he barks at them. We don't know how he gets along with cats as he has not met any. I have had Brownie for 9 years, and I am devastated that I cannot take him where I am moving. All I want is to find someone who can help him live out his golden years in a quiet home. Please inquire today to adopt Brownie!

Story
Hi, it’s nice to meet you, I’m Diablo, a 3 year old, 25 lb., dachshund/chi mix. I don’t remember much about my former life, but I’m glad to be with A Home of Their Own Animal Rescue to find my forever home. I’m a little shy around new people given all the changes I’ve been through. I’ve been in a couple of foster homes before, and I discovered that I feel more comfortable around adults and older children. Younger children scare me with their quick, sometimes unpredictable movements. I am looking for a forever home that is patient and loving. I believe I’m housetrained, but I may need a refresher. I like crates because they feel so cozy and safe. That said, I may need some coaxing in the beginning to get out of my crate and into the world.  I am very high energy so will do best in a home with people that are active and can give me plenty of exercise! Also, a home with people that are home often would be nice too because I tend to get attached to my people. They make me feel safe! I’m a sensitive guy with a big heart once I trust someone. Are you that forever trustworthy person I’m looking for?! ##2039331##
