Story
Meet Toby, a delightful 6-year-old Doberman/Hound mix weighing 56 pounds. This friendly canine is both dog and cat-friendly, making him a versatile companion. Toby is house and crate trained, though occasional accidents may occur if he feels anxious – a manageable aspect with the right home environment and schedule. In terms of an ideal home, Toby thrives in a large fenced yard where he can run and play with doggie friends. He tends to be more comfortable around females or patient men, as he is timid but not aggressive. Working from home is a bonus, and early risers would be a great match for Toby's energetic mornings. Recognizing Toby's need for confidence-building, he would benefit from a household with opportunities for training and growth. Early risers are a plus, and having a playful dog friend is essential for his well-being. While cats and older children (16 and above) are welcome, a calm environment is preferred. Despite his timidity, Toby is a super sweet dog who loves to run in the yard, is leash trained, and enjoys playing with toys. He is healthy, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. The reason for rehoming stems from the owner's unfortunate struggle with illness, prompting the search for a loving and understanding forever home for Toby.May 24, 2024, 1:46 pm

Story
Hi, my name is Fury! But I'm more like a happy, gentle breeze that wants to have fun! You might recognize my name from the famous character Director Nick Fury of the Marvel movies, I'm kinda like him: I love being the center of attention and don't like it when people take my stuff! I am a big dog! With my mixed Doberman Pinscher/Black Labrador genes I am a whopping 52#/lbs and have a ton of energy and muscle that needs to be worked! Because of this it would be best if I was paired with an active family who knows how to keep a dog mentally stimulated and respects my boundaries well. No apartment living for me please! No cats or small children either! My caretakers have learned some important things about me: I am a chow-hound and will try to eat anything I can get my hands on! So please leave food out of reach from me or I'll swoop it all up. Secondly, I would prefer if people didn't grab things that I have in my mouth, it's mine not yours hehe! Overall, I am a big-hearted dog who wants to go play, be adventurous, have fun with other people and dogs! I am however not such a big fan of car rides, they make my tummy feel sick eww! I love all people and dogs, am a healthy, happy boy and just want to find my home. Let's work together and find it!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
Rooster is located in TEXAS. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down there, so he is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home. This handsome boy was found as a stray running out in the country. He is approximately 7 months old and weighs 45 pounds. He will probably weigh in the 60-pound range when fully grown. We are not sure of his breed mixture but think he may have some lab and Doberman in him. Rooster has a great personality and disposition. He loves all of the other rescue dogs, big and small. He loves people and will lie at your feet whenever he can. He loves water and the garden fountain is his favorite spot to hang out and keep cool. Rooster is a very sweet and goofy puppy. He is pretty much house-trained and runs to go outside with his buddies. He will need some leash training and would probably do better with a harness. We have no idea of how he is with cats. Rooster loves to run and play with his dog friends and toys. He may not be suitable for a home with small children because he may knock them over when running and playing. Rooster needs a fully fenced-in and secure yard. He will be a great dog for hiking or going to the dog park. He is an active boy and will run around the yard with a toy in his mouth playing tag with his buddies. He likes to be the leader and have everyone chase him. Rooster would do well either as an only dog or with other dogs. Rooster is a healthy and happy boy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, (DAPP, Bordatella, rabies, canine influenza), and microchipped. He is receiving monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Roosters' adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport by a reputable and trusted transport company to Hagerstown MD or Quicksburg VA. Rooster resides with our friends at Shaggy Dog Rescue and cannot be transported until after he is adopted. Please email kathy@houstonshaggydogrescue.org if you are interested in adopting this good boy. You may also find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/houstonshaggydogrescue

Story
MEET SAM! (Descriptor: Snuggler) This silly and happy-go-lucky ~2yr old guy was brought in by animal control for being tied outside with no shelter or food/water. His past has not affected him one bit, and he absolutely loves life, people and other dogs. His records say he is a Doberman mix, but we don't believe it. Because of his delicious OVERbite, we think he may be part shark! At 55 lbs, he'd fit in any pool or tub. Sam knows 'sit,' 'down,' 'wait,' 'leave it,' and has excellent leash manners. He has been training with his foster Mom and now drops into a down position and patiently waits for his food despite being just soooo excited to eat! He (mostly) comes when called and will wait to be released in the morning after sleeping on his dog bed so he won’t rush his family when getting up. Sam is house broken and crate trained, and he enjoys taking naps outside of his crate during the day. While Sam adores attention and affection and he will practically swoon when you brush him. His love language is physical touch! He will lean and bend around you on the couch until he settles half on and half off your lap. Even though he loooooves his people, Sam can entertain himself with his chew toy. Sam absolutely loves other dogs and plays well and hard with both male and female dogs his size or smaller. Sam lives successfully with another dog and a dog savvy cat in his foster home. We recommend he go to a home with another dog and we know he is good with children 12 and up.  Sam’s adoption donation fee is $400, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for Sam by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.May 20, 2024, 4:25 pm
