Story

Skeeter is an 8 year old hairy hairless Chinese Crested adopted 4 years ago from a rescue. He needs a single person household where there are no children, few visitors and few stressors in his life. He has fear related and anxiety issues for which he is on twice daily medications. With the person he trusts, he is a sweet and lovable dog. When I am home alone with him he is a quiet, happy guy. Around anyone else, he does not feel safe, is unpredictable, and may bite. He currently has a dog buddy and would do well with another chill dog in his home. He spends a good deal of his day sleeping in or out of his crate or on my lap. Reason for rehoming him - He is scared of my husband. This fear translates into barking and avoidance when he is out of his crate and most recently a bite. With medication and working with a behavioral specialist, his behavior has improved somewhat but not enough for either Skeeter or my husband to be comfortable.

Story

4 year old Lola is a survivor. She was pregnant and living on the side of a river, and surviving from scraps from a stranger. Eventually a kind stranger managed to get her and her puppies into shelter. Lola is a beautiful Mexican special mix – her pups look like small black labs – she may be a shepherd x terrier x lab mix. She’s her own mix of very special girl. Lola is lower energy, but spins in excitement if you might be so kind to toss her a ball, or when her dinner is ready. Story

Sweet Sandy, born February 2025 was already on the street at a young age. A kind rescuer would see her out chasing chickens, hungry and alone, and took her into foster care. Sandy is a mixed breed, whippet x terrier, currently weighing 33 lbs, we estimate she may be 39 lbs full grown. Sandy is living in a foster home with multiple dogs and cats. She is playful with all dogs, and even safe playing with the tiniest of them. Sandy is friendly with people but likes to go slowly when strangers visit to be sure that they are safe to cuddle. Sandy has not been tested with kids. Sandy is house trained, walks well on leash, and has been okay when left alone in her foster home. Sandy is looking for adventure, and would like an active home where she can run and play, and even some enrichment for her big brain. Not only is Sandy beautiful, but also healthy, spayed and vaccinated. Meet Dante! Breed: Doberman Age: 2.5 years Location: Edmonton, AB Personality: Dante is a playful boy who knows basic commands and is very food motivated. He needs clear boundaries and a knowledgeable adopter to continue his training, but he is a smart and gentle guy who has blossomed into a great dog while in care. Likes: He enjoys playing fetch, playing tug of war, puzzle toys, and running at the dog park. He loves to chew, but finding him a chew toy he can't destroy has been a challenge. He likes car rides too, mostly because they usually mean he gets to go to the dog park! Dislikes: Although Dante wants to be with his people at all times, he isn't much of a cuddler. He does not like being left alone and is safest in a solid crate. He can be a bit vocal when you first leave, but does settle down. Ideal Home: Dante's ideal family is active and committed to continued training and enrichment. They should not have small children as he's not super comfortable around them. Like most Dobermans, Dante needs regular exercise and mental stimulation or he may find other ways to entertain himself. He would love a home interested in doing fun things like agility. ‍‍‍ Family: Dante would do best with another dog in the home, preferably a female of similar size. He has previously lived with cats and has been fine around small dogs he has met as well. Health: No known issues. Adoption Fee: $500 Dante has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Story

2.5 year old Husky cross Chiquita is looking for her perfect home. Chiquita has had a hard start in life – wandering with her mum and siblings as a puppy to survive on food scraps, then survived a hurricane and now awaits a real life from the SPCA PV sanctuary. Chiquita is one of the most stunning dogs in the sanctuary, with her unique colouring and caramel eyes. She leans in for snuggles, and falls at your feet for belly rubs with guests to the sanctuary trying to get a taste for real life with someone who loves her as their own. Chiquita is playful and enjoys time with the puppies to feed off their youth. She can be selective with certain dogs, which is common for a girl of her age and we think she’d love a home all to herself. We would love to see her enjoying outdoor space in a cooler climate (Mexico is a pretty hot spot for a husky cross!). Chiquita happily visits regularly with cats – at times a bit excited around them. As she’s spent her early life in sanctuary she’s hasn’t had exposure to kids or big crowds. As a bigger girl, we’d love to see her land somewhere outside the big city.
