ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The following information is the most recent update we have received from Avery’s foster parents. We have made this information available to help you, our adopters, to learn more about Avery prior to inquiring about a meet & greet.
Please read thoroughly before reaching out to us—this will help reduce the number of emails we receive every day and in turn, allow us to respond to the emails we do receive more quickly!
Please note that a dog's behavior often varies from one environment to another, and a decompression period in a new environment can last days to months.
General Personality:
Avery is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and cuddly. She is very gentle. She has a soft, mushy personality and thrives on love and attention.
Avery is curious and friendly, especially when meeting new people and dogs! She wants to say hello to everyone she sees.
Daily Routine:
Avery typically wakes up around 7 am, goes to the grass patch in the backyard to relieve herself, then eats breakfast. If the weather allows she has outdoor playtime and indoor rest in between. Early dinner is around 3-4 pm.
About 45 minutes after her meals, she has a bowel movement.
After evening playtime and relaxing, Avery sleeps through the night in the bedroom in her crate.
Is the dog housebroken?
Yes, to our environment, floor plan and routine.
Behavior Around Dogs:
Very polite and playful. Avery lives in a foster home with dogs big and small. She can be resource possessive with favorite toys.
Please note:
There are no cats or kids in her foster home.
Energy Rating (1 = very high; 5 = very low): 3
Leash Walking Rating (1 = difficult; 5 = perfect): 3
Leash Behaviors:
Avery enjoys walks and is curious about her surroundings.
She does pull a bit at the beginning of walks, especially when she is excited, but tends to settle and walk more calmly as the walk goes on.
She is very interested in people and other dogs and often wants to say hello, but she has been cautiously polite and appropriate during greetings.
She is still learning leash manners and continues to improve with consistency and guidance.
It’s apparent she hasn’t had a good life prior to her arrival at KenMar Rescue. She was severely matted, covered with fleas and street debris and required a “mercy grooming” at the shelter. Her grooming is slow and steady. She is apprehensive when we try to trim around her face.
Easy to love, Avery is thriving with love, patience and kindness.
Crate Rating When Left Alone:
Enjoys spending time in her open-door crate filled with toys and cozy blankets to nest in.
If given the choice, she prefers “squirrel patrol” and bird watching in the enclosed back patio.
Does the dog sleep through the night?
Yes. Restless at first so we relax on the couch about 45 mins before bed to watch her favorite Netflix shows.
Other Quirks:
Two meals a day, breakfast between 8-9 am and then late afternoon between 3-4 pm.
What makes him/her happy?
Avery is happiest when she is close to her people. She loves cuddling and following you from room to room. She enjoys exploring outside and having a consistent daily routine.
What makes him/her nervous or unhappy?
Avery can be startled by loud, sudden noises or unfamiliar sounds outside. She may bark briefly when she hears delivery people but she settles with reassurance and redirection.
Other Displayed Behaviors and Information:
Current Walking Device:
Harness with leash and ID tags attached to her collar.
Currently Eating:
Taste of the Wild Venison or Salmon flavor mixed in with canned pumpkin and a hard boiled, crumbled egg.

We are located near Yosemite. So transportation logistics may be an issue. Especially if things do not work out, how would the orphan be returned to us?
