Though these masses are typically benign, they may continue to grow, and some may grow faster than others. We have seen some growth and then shrink. The masses may need to be removed per vet recommendation if they show signs of infection. 6/24/24 Foster Feedback: Handsome Rico is lovin’ life at the lake this summer!  Favorite pastimes are sleeping in, sunbathing naps on the blanket softened patio, hoping someone shares a Zorbaz pizza on the pontoon.  His skin has been great and dander is gone!  He is the healthiest and youngest 11 year old ever!  Still looking for a retirement buddy. I know it says a 6’ fence needed, but a baby gate is probably enough. Such an easygoing, quiet guy.  He is even making friends with a chihuahua. He is a dreamboat!  Love him to pieces!! 2/28/24 Foster Feedback: This distinguished, handsome and spry senior is still patiently waiting (over 900 days now!) for a kind hearted person to share their heart and home with him.  He needs so little…a soft dog bed or a fuzzy blanket on an end of your couch is just fine for Mr. Suave. This guy is easy peasy,  rarely barks, eats and travels well, never has a potty accident, kennels beautifully or can be left loose in the house and is friendly with adult strangers. He isn’t the most photogenic as his expression never changes…it literally always looks the same whether he’s happy, sad, excited or mad. He may look grumpy but he’s definitely not.  Rico does have some skin issues requiring weekly medicated baths, but he jumps right into either the tub or shower with no problem at all. His skin medication is only $60 a month and he is not on prescription food either.   During this mild winter, he has been willing to take a long walk just about every day. He walks loose leash perfectly. He also will run after a tennis ball a few times and throw his stuffed fox in the air. He is looking forward to some sun bathing on the patio soon!   I hope Rico gets a chance to meet one of you looking for a perfect companion.  10/21/2023 Foster Feedback: This is Rico Suave and I can’t believe not even one person has asked to meet me over the last two years. I've been anchoring the list of available dogs for waaay too long considering what an agreeable, affectionate and well-behaved guy I am! The only time I ever bark is if the doorbell wakes me up from a snooze. I’m not interested in looking out windows so I never even see the mailman, I have never put my front paws on a counter ever, and I never bother or chew on anything. My foster mom tells me every day what a good boy I am and I really really am!   I love to ride in the car and am quiet and calm, I don’t need to go outside to do my duty more than a few times a day. I sometimes like to go for a 6-8 block walk (I never pull), but mostly I’m content to just lay on whatever dog bed is closest to where my foster mom is. I even love to just be in my kennel with the door open. Since I’m such a good boy, I have run of the house when my family is gone. If you read under my picture about some growths I had in the past, I am happy to tell you I haven’t had any more! Yay for me! Although I am almost 10.5 years old, I am very spry and have absolutely no old age aches or pains, my muzzle isn’t grizzled and my eyes see very well. What I do have are a lot of skin tags and warts and I need to have a medicated shampoo every 5-6 days to keep my sensitive skin doing good. I do have more dander than an average dog, but my mom says it’s not a big deal to swiffer or vacuum more often. She keeps a blanket or sheet over the bed and the couch that I have permission to sleep on. I take cyclosporine every day to help my skin and occasionally have a cytopoint shot if my skin gets itchy.  While I want to be your only pet, I don’t act bad when I see another dog on a walk, and I don’t give a hoot about geese, squirrels or turkeys wandering around.  The best thing about me is all the love I show to my foster mom and dad. I am happiest when they sit down so I can invade their personal space and lay my big noggin on their lap! I am such a loveable guy and I know there has to be a forever person out there somewhere for me. I am waiting for you…please come and pick me as your companion and friend!   06/12/2023 Foster Feedback: Grandpa Rico is still patiently waiting for his forever home while living at the lake this summer and experiencing new activities. He took his first pontoon ride and was very comfortable just hanging out looking at other boats and the scenery passing by. I also brought him into the water and confirmed he can swim…but he really didn’t enjoy it much.  What he does really enjoy is basking in the sun on the concrete…and we do short sessions a few times a day. Mostly he just naps the day away staying close to where I am. He is such an affectionate, calm and loving dog! Go with the flow Rico is so well behaved…he never gets into anything, keeps all 4 paws on the floor and jumps right into the tub for his weekly medicated bath. He rarely woofs at strangers walking on the beach road anymore and is content to just walk around the yard with me for exercise a few times a day. Rico is such an easy dog…he just needs a home without kids, has a fence and no other pets. He will give you all the love you need!     5/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Grandpa Rico has gone from holding down the couch to lawn ornament status basking in the warmth of the sun! Rico may have a grumpy countenance, but he is one of the most agreeable and go-with-the-flow dogs we have had the pleasure of fostering. His allergies still require medicated baths every five days and yep, he does have more than usual amounts of dander…but it’s an easy fix with a vacuum and swiffer!   Rico is a good eater, keeps all four feet on the floor (except when snuggling on the couch or sleeping just as close as he can possibly can to you in bed at night.) He doesn’t snore, kennels beautifully or can be left to free roam, only wants a short walk on nice days, has never chewed on anything human related, rides quietly and calmly in any vehicle and rarely barks. Look at that adorable little tip of his tongue that escapes his mostly toothless gums.  Although Rico wants to be your only pet, he is not reactive when seeing other dogs on walks or while riding in the car. He really is such a very, very good boy!     1/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Rico Suave has been with us since Christmas and we LOVE him!  We are retired and mostly home and he is happy not being kenneled all day. Rico is just the easiest and sweetest old man and has excellent house manners and a quiet, loving, and gentle nature. Literally, all he needs is a comfy dog bed or the end of a couch to nap on…and someone willing to give him frequent medicated baths to help his skin.  Rico doesn’t play with toys or chew on bones but will be happy to take a walk on warmer days, go for rides in the car or cuddle up next to you. He is a champion napper…happiest when he is right next to you with his huge noggin resting on your lap 9/6/2022 Foster Feedback: Rico has been doing well this summer. He enjoys napping on the cement, going for short walks, listening to turkeys (they don't bother him), and playing 5 minutes of tug of war every week. It's a big regiment for a big fella in his retirement phase of life. Rico has been doing very very well on walks; not reacting to other dogs or other critters out on walks. He is still a very treat-motivated old man. Rico sure would like to lounge in his forever home very soon! 7/21/2022 Volunteer Feedback: Rico Suave is a precious old man who would love to be someone's best buddy. His talents include snacking, pondering the meaning of life, and making sure the couch isn't going anywhere. He likes to be close to or directly on his people while just hanging out, or patrolling the great outdoors and taking in all the local sniffs. He's one of those gentle giants who may look like a grump but is secretly a total softie who isn't afraid to show his love with kisses and snuggles. 2/9/2022: Rico is the perfect winter dog in my mind as he has no interest in long walks in the cold or the snow; he just wants to go out for business purposes only. He loves his walks in the warmer weather of course. Rather than a long cold, snowy walk, he would rather just have a tasty treat out of his kong and then snuggle up for a nap. Handsome man Rico hasn't had any new bumps since the last bumps in the fall disappeared, so that is great news! Rico recently attended a "VIP" dog event the rescue collaborated with Down Dog Studio and Rico got to spend half an hour getting about a million pets from strangers; he was an absolute ham. He is pouting and sad he didn't find his forever home but, he looks forward to you giving him the next million pets. Rico grows weary of his foster father coming home from volunteering at the shelter almost daily and smelling like other dogs while he sits in his kennel; it's just not right for an old pup in his retirement years! 8/27/21:  Rico has been with me for a couple of months now. Rico was returned to the rescue after about 7 years, so he is really thankful 4 Luv of Dog has been there twice to take him in. Rico has been a very easy dog to have in the home. He is a fantastic house guest, I am more than happy to let him spend a little time here while he searches for that perfect retirement home. Rico will spend most of the day sleeping. He might follow you around the house a little but generally, he is going to find a cozy spot if there isn't a lap to settle into. Rico is kennel trained and spends his time while I am away in his kennel. He does well and seems comfortable. I always give him a reward for kenneling, and he usually gets breakfast in his kennel before I leave for work. He is potty trained and hasn't had any accidents.  Rico generally gets a little exercise after I return from work and then it's nap time again for Mr. Suave. Rico does love walking and exploring, occasionally even running. As a distinguished older gentleman, however, he doesn't really need extreme amounts of exercise daily as some dogs require. Rico is an oinker that absolutely loves his food and treats, which is great for training and having him follow your directions. That being said, his weight is doing pretty well and he has lost a few pounds since his initial vet visit, as the vet recommended. Rico's transition from his old home of about 7 years to a stay at the shelter, then to my home was not very easy for him. He was also coming off a prescription of steroids per the veterinarian's advice. While he was completely content inside my apartment almost immediately, he did take some adjustments to the neighborhood on walks. Other people and dogs would stress him out if we got too close. He really needed decompression time to get used to his new surroundings. 4 Luv of Dog sent Rico and me through a six-week training course  "Over Reactive Rover"  through Down Dog Studio to help him overcome this hurdle, and it has helped immensely. Rico has been much easier and calmer to walk and has picked up very well on everything we have been taught. I would, of course, go over some of the things we worked on so he can continue to be successful in his retirement home. I would also encourage adopters to continue training as training classes are just as much for the owner as for the dog. I feel like Rico's transition from his foster home to an adoptive home will be much easier than the transition from the shelter to a foster home. This coupled with the training Rico has received has him really looking forward to lounging around with you, so please consider adopting Rico to help him finish his journey out of the rescue for good!!To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org July 26, 2024, 3:14 pm

This is controlled with medication. The cost is $40 for a 30-count box, 1 box should last her about 30 days. This dose could change as recommended by your veterinarian if the current dose can no longer manage the incontinence. Carly also takes over-the-counter Zyrtec, 1 tablet daily as needed for mild allergies.   Carly &#226&#128&#175is a super sweet girl!   Foster Home Feedback  * &#226&#128&#175 NO Other Pets, Older/Considerate Children, and&#226&#128&#175Fenced-in yard required.  Medical Feedback:  For anyone interested in Carly, I'd love to explain her urinary incontinence. If you didn't have to give her a pill in her food for it, you wouldn't know she has an issue. Carly takes 2 pills of Incurin a day, just in the morning, and takes it right in her food. Her incontinence is managed great with this medication. She has never tinkled with excitement, she's never had an accident, and if needed - she can kennel for up to 8 hours with no issues at all. 2/28/24 Foster Feedback: Carly is doing great but does not appreciate this snow/cold business interrupting her daily walks. Rude! Here are some key things we're working on daily: door manners, 3 sec rule with other dogs outside engage/disengage, loose leash training. What's new with Carly? She's on the 5th week of over reactive training ( new location and dogs), 2nd class she's been in. She had a little trouble with adjusting but she's making progress. We got the go ahead to train with a friend to slowly introduce her dog and Carly at a 50 ft distance. Hoping this will help with future socializing, ongoing trainings, and events. Carly loves playing tug with her toys, stoop watching the neighborhood, her snacks and napping (don't we all, ha), coffee Friday day or pup cup day! Carly is not a fan of the vacuum cleaner, loud noises, not loving her food (adding a little soft food in to assist).  No accidents, she isn't kenneled while we're out and longest she's been alone is 6 hrs. She takes Incurrin for incontinence daily and an allergy pill for her skin. Dan and I work from home and Carly likes to spend most of her day in his office.  11/8/23 Foster Feedback: Carly is potty trained, no accidents so far. She goes right to the door when asked. We haven't left her unattended yet, we'll have a better idea on how that goes this weekend with a short errand run. We haven't introduced her to my niece and nephew yet, they are 4 and 7yrs old. She is the Queen of couch potato and found her favorite spots in the house for napping. She gets very distracted at the window and on walks. We'll be attending training for that. Carly loves her daily walks and playing with all her new toys, napping during the day and especially treats.  She's really enjoying the big back yard doing daily perimeter checks and chasing away the squirrels. As of right now she might do best in an only dog family, but with training and time that may change. We're excited to see her blossom and her personality come out daily.  5/21/23 Foster Feedback: We seriously cannot believe Carly has not been adopted yet! We absolutely love having her, she is such a great dog - so easy! Nothing really new has changed with her, she still spends her days mostly napping, relaxing, watching out the window, playing with her foster brother, and snuggling mostly with her foster dad. Carly is such a sweet girl and absolutely loves people. The only thing we are still working on is her walking etiquette; but with treats and cheese, she does so much better. She tends to get excited if we see dogs on walks and wants to pull, so the treats help keep her focused and not pull as much. Besides walks, she is such an easy girl. Carly is kennel trained and sleeps great through the night, knows exactly when it is time to eat, and is the perfect balance of active and lazy. Someone will be so lucky to have her, she is full of love to give and deserves the best home!  1/18/23 Foster Feedback: Carly is doing so well and we absolutely love her! Here is a day in the life of Carly: Carly starts her day off by eating right when she wakes up, then goes out to go potty, but she prefers to eat before she goes outside!! Then she loves to come and take a morning nap in bed while we get ready for work, and she knows she gets to come too. She LOVES car rides!! We take Carly to our office just about every day, but when she needs to stay at home, she kennels wonderfully. At work, Carly spends most of her day taking naps, playing with her toys on her dog bed, and greeting people at the office. She LOVES people, especially guys! She does great all day at work. You barely know she is there. Then at about 5 o'clock, she knows it is time to go home and eat. Once she eats, she spends time playing. Because she is so quiet all day, she likes to get a little energy out after she eats! On really cold days, she gets too cold outside, so is very quick to come back in!! On nicer days, she loves a good walk outside. After her dinner and playtime, Carly is all ready to cuddle in for the night and snuggle with us. She is the best cuddler! Carly is such a good girl, and we seriously can't believe someone hasn't adopted her yet. She does take medication for her urinary incontinence, but it is managed great with her medications. She has never had an accident in our house. She is really doing great! Someone will be so lucky to have this beautiful girl. She is a such a people dog and can't wait to find her forever family who will love her just as much as she will love them! If you are looking for a loving girl who loves people, enjoys being active but still loves to be lazy and take lots of naps, and looks like a tiger, this is your girl! Apply today!   10/25/22 Foster Feedback: Ahhh where to start with this little tiger lady, we have had Carly for the past 2 months and absolutely adore her. We love to call her cute, cute Carly, because she is simply the cutest!! Here are some things to know about our favorite tiger lady: -She is the cutest. She seriously looks like a Siberian tiger and has the most unique markings, hence why she is our tiger lady. -Carly is just the sweetest. I have never seen a happier dog than this girl, especially when you come home. She gets SO excited to see you!! She has a solid 5 minute stretch of excitement including zoomies, little jumps, showing off her toys, giving kisses, the whole 9 yards, then after a good few minutes, she is back lounging on the couch, just observing what you are doing with her favorite toy. -This girl kennels great and is very treat motivated. She loves all treats and takes them very nicely, but her favorite high-reward treat is string cheese.  -She LOVES people. We take her to work a couple times a week and she loves seeing the girls at our office and does great hanging out in our offices taking naps, playing with her toys, and enjoying walk breaks. You barely even know she is in your office with you. -She is turning into a little cuddle bug, it wasn't her thing right away, but she loves to be cuddled up next to us now. -Carly loves to be active, yet she is overall a very calm dog. She loves to run and play in the backyard and loves walks. She is VERY strong and sometimes pulls on her walks, but is redirected very well with cheese.  -She does great in the car and she got to help my husband harvest this year in the field. She helped make sure he was doing a good job in the combine. It was a fun adventure for her!! -All night long she sleeps in a chair in our living room. If you let her sleep in your bed with you, she highly enjoys it and really doesn't move at all. -Carly makes my husband and I so happy!!! She is just a goofy girl with the sweetest personality. Her muscles are insane, she is like a little bulldozer bulldog, so older kids are required for her. She has loved all of the people she has met, so she does great with everyone. -She is such a great girl and will make any family so happy!!! If this sounds like your girl, apply today!! She's excited to meet you!! 9/9/22 Temporary Care Feedback: Our beautiful tiger lady is just the sweetest. Carly loves treats and takes them very gently. She is a great walker and loves to explore the outdoors. In our house, she is very laid back, just hangs around, plays with toys, and naps. She is a great sleeper too. She loves to sleep in bed with you and barely moves all night. Carly has met some human friends with us and did great, she seems to really enjoy males. Carly has been a great office companion too. I took her to work and she laid on her dog bed all day, greeted people she saw, and had some great walk breaks throughout the day. Carly is looking for a family to call her own. 8/11/22 Volunteer Feedback: What a beautiful girl Carly is! She has such a gentle spirit you wish you could give her kisses and pets all day long—and luckily, she would like that too! Carly is a low-vigor dog who has a subdued approach to life. She walks at a beautiful leisurely pace, but, honestly, she would prefer to lounge around. She enjoys squeaky balls, but is not a huge fan of chase or fetch—she just likes to lie down and go to town squeaking! When alone, she does wonderfully—she does not whine or bark; instead, she just rests and patiently waits for her turn to receive attention. She knows “sit” and happily follows the command for a treat. Carly does have trouble holding her urine, so she requires training in that area. Training this stunning girl will take a patient and authoritative owner (who keeps good treats on hand!) She is an affectionate girl who appreciates a good pet but does not think of herself as a lap dog; instead, she enjoys laying down beside her owner and receiving pets. Carly is a spectacular girl who is worthy of a home that can shower her with the love and affection she deserves (and will undoubtedly give back)! 7/30/22 Volunteer Feedback: Carly is a soft-hearted, gorgeous girl! Her beautiful, tiger-like coat makes her the center of attention—and rightfully so! She is a gentle giant when receiving affection, but she can also be an independent and strong lady. She needs an owner who can effectively handle and guide her since she is a powerhouse (when she wants to be!) While she can be somewhat stubborn on a leash if she fixates on another dog in the distance, when she is distraction-free, she walks at a beautiful leisurely pace. She still needs to work on her cues, but I am sure that she will learn splendidly with an owner who is patient with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind girl like her. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org July 26, 2024, 3:14 pm

NO apartments 7/3/24 Sitter Feedback: Introducing Salad: Your Loyal and Loving Companion Recently, I had the opportunity to care for Salad, a remarkable dog, for ten days while her foster family was out of town. I would like to share my observations and suggestions to ensure her successful adoption. Salad is a loving and loyal dog. If circumstances permitted, I would not hesitate to adopt her myself. Understanding her needs and behaviors is key to a successful adoption. Initial Meeting, given Salad’s cautious nature around strangers: Through consistent commands and positive reinforcement with treats, Salad quickly learned boundaries and began to trust me.  There may need to be a few meets before adopting her. Setting Salad up for success is most important. Recommendations for Adoption: 1. Neutral Meeting Place: Introduce Salad in a neutral location to facilitate a positive initial interaction. 2. Experienced Owners: Ideal candidates should have a familiarity with German Shepherds or large breed dogs. 3. Secure Environment: A home with a fenced yard is essential for Salad’s safety and well-being. 4. Controlled Introductions: When meeting new individuals, use a leash, avoid direct eye contact, and allow Salad to approach at her own pace. 5. Positive Reinforcement: Utilize treats to establish boundaries and build trust. 6. Visitor Protocol: Ensure visitors do not enter the home or yard unannounced to maintain a secure environment for Salad. Salad proved to be a delightful and loving houseguest. I would gladly care for her again if the opportunity arises. She deserves a forever home where she can be cherished and understood. If you are seeking a loyal and intelligent companion, Salad may be the perfect addition to your family. 2/29/24 Foster Feedback: Salad continues to be such a sweet girl.  She is now weighing in at 100lbs!  Big girl. Salad is still working on meeting new people. She sits, shakes, rolls over, stays when she is told and waits nicely for her food. Her recall is pretty good when she is out running around in the yard. When we call her, she comes running back. Salad is such a good girl, but will need a quiet place to live. If we move her kennel or her routine is different, she gets very nervous - Salad just isn't a big fan of change. 11/9/23 Foster Feedback:  Salad is super smart. Loves her food and treats. Will do almost anything for food. She knows how to sit, shake, and roll over. She sits nicely while she waits for her food. She loves running in the yard. Salad also loves sleeping in her kennel at night. When you tell her it’s bed time she will put herself to bed in the kennel, it’s quite cute. We leave the kennel door open so if she wants she can sleep with us, but most of the time she chooses to stay in her kennel. She is very snuggly, and snores loud as she is laying by you. She is very aware of everything around her. When you talk to her she listens very intently. She is completely potty trained. No accidents at all. She is still working on getting used to strangers. 6/20/23 Foster Feedback: Salad has been with us now for about 3 months. She is still a little nervous around new people that come to our house so we will put her in her kennel in our room and let her just relax while people are here. When she has been at the kennel for the weekends, she does fine with all the people, so I am guessing she just has a little bit of nervous territorial instincts. We are working on that, but we don't get a lot of visitors so we haven't been able to test that much. Salad loves to play with her tennis ball, its her favorite and also loves to play with her tug toy. She just learned "roll over", she is very smart. With more training she will be a fantastic dog. She is completely potty trained, loves her kennel, and does well in the car. When you say "bedtime" or "kennel" she immediately will put herself in her kennel, sometimes she will just go in there to rest. I work from home so Salad isn't left alone very often, but she does fine in her kennel when we do leave. She is very cuddly, she loves to lay on the bed with us when we watch tv or just rest. She is very good about coming to you when she is called. She loves to run around our yard, but will immediately come when called to go back in the house. She does bark when people walk by our fence line and basically monitors our yard at all times when she is outside. Inside she will bark at the window when people walk by, we are still working with her on that. She is a typical herding dog, very alert and always watching everything. She is very good about waiting until she is told to "eat" her food. We haven't had any issue with guarding her food, but we also don't have any other pets. 2/19/2023 Volunteer Feedback:  Salad is the sweetest girl on the block. She's velvety soft and cuddly, excellent on leash walks, and enjoys many smells and sounds the outdoor adventures present. She is curious about other dogs, not aggressive, but excited. Salad loves her one-on-one time in the couch room and soaks in all the attention she can get. The kennel room is a loud environment, so spending time cuddling with humans feels good. Salad has been dog tested and she did well! As with all young dogs, she will need a slow, gradual introduction and humans to moderate play (she LOVES to play), but Salad would fit well in the house with other K9 siblings. Please look at this beautiful girl! You will not regret it.To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org July 26, 2024, 3:14 pm

As Michigan's foster since October, we have been working hard on finding the best way to help Michigan gain confidence when meeting new people and in new situations. I'm beyond proud to have been a part of her progress. We think it has been a magical trio of daily meds, positive interactions with new people/situations, and her growth from being an adolescent puppy to a young adult now! As her fosters, we have been blessed with seeing her sweet, goofy, lovable self all the time. The problem was she didn't let other people see that...she was just too anxious and had trouble recognizing the love other people wanted to share with her. While she has come a long way and adjusts much faster to new people coming to our house now, we still don't feel that a busy household with young kids and their friends coming and going would be the best fit for Michigan. I just don't think she wants to be the life of the party. She prefers hanging out with her family crew most often, which can include dogs and/or cats.   We still like to kennel her when guests come over just so it's not so overwhelming to Michigan and our guests. Once the guest is situated, then Michigan can come out and say hi.  She might give a little bark and sniff the person, but tends to move on to other things after that.   Part of her mix of breeds seems to include a "herding" type of dog. When she is excited, wants to play or go outside, or is trying to initiate play with our dogs, she can be mouthy. For example, she nips at our dogs' back legs when she wants to play. As for us humans, she can easily be redirected to toys or a game of fetch.   She is the ultimate backyard pal! On these beautiful summer days, she is happy to hang out in the yard all day, if you let her! She loves to watch the birds and keep the squirrels and rabbits out of our yard. She reminds me each day that I should take time to just sit in the yard and enjoy my surroundings!   We had already been seeing improvements with guests coming to our us, but she really showed her progress when she stayed with a sitter over Memorial Day weekend and her recent stay at boarding and with a different sitter. The first sitter she met the day before she was dropped off for the weekend and quickly adjusted to her routine and life with a cat!   The next time we were gone, she had to spend a week at boarding. They said it took her a couple days to warm up but overall did well. Then a brand new person to Michigan picked her up from boarding and hosted her for a week. Michigan must think that lady was her guardian angel as she adjusted quickly and showed off her sweetness almost immediately!   This girl is ready to show you just how sweet she can be!   7/2/24 Volunteer Feedback: I had the AMAZING pleasure of officially meeting Miss Michigan today. I went to her foster home to pick up some goodies for the 5k on 7/11. I was asked if I would like to help out Michigan by letting her meet someone new. Of course I had to say yes as I haven’t had a chance to meet this baby yet, only a glimpse from afar. I was told that the resident dogs were very friendly but may bark. No problems on my end - I’m used to that! I followed the instructions to provide the best experience for her. When the resident dogs came out there were roughly 3 seconds of barking, followed by immediate loves and demands for attention. While I sat for a bit chatting with the foster, I wondered when Michigan would make an appearance. Her foster mentioned how good she was doing, and I couldn’t believe it; she was one of the "resident dogs"! She was the one who first came up to me and promptly gave kisses. I had to be reassured that that was indeed Michigan. The combination of the amount of love and support these fosters have provided her (and a little help from the vet) has made such a humongous change in this girl. She is unrecognizable. Needless to say she quickly stole my heart.  I’m hoping to see her at some events soon. This girl is an absolute love bug and her forever family is going to be so dang lucky! 6/30/24 Temporary Care Feedback: We were lucky enough to watch this sweet girl for a week, and oh my goodness, let me tell you how wonderful she is. Michigan is the sweetest little goofball that stole our hearts very quickly. We went into this babysitting scenario aware that she is typically shy with new people and knew she'd likely need time to warm up to us. She ended up warming up to us and settling in within the first day. My husband needed to move slowly and let her investigate him for a good 10 minutes or so, but then she was happy to snuggle right up to him too. This girl met both of my dogs and made quick friends. She loved playing with them, but happily played solo or with humans when my dogs weren't up to playing. She gets an A in fetch and an A+ at lounging. She was an absolutely perfect house guest; she did not have a single accident or chew up anything she shouldn't. We did kennel her when we left the house and overnight; she quietly laid in her kennel the whole time. However, she certainly wouldn't need to be kenneled, she can easily be left to free roam when you're gone and she happily slept in bed with me when my husband was out of town. Michigan would let out an alert bark when she saw action outside, but she immediately stopped when I reassured her that the neighbors weren't assassins out to get us. (All I did was say "leave it" or "Michigan, you're okay" and she would stop.) One of her favorite hobbies was bird-watching on the deck. She sat outside and lounged in the sun for hours observing things. She loved chasing the birds that landed in the yard. She walked decent on a leash as long as we kept her next to us and pre-emptively distracted her before seeing people or other dogs. This dog is absolutely wonderful, we would love to keep her for ourselves but unfortunately aren't in the market for dog number three. Her fosters have clearly done a lot of work to help her feel more comfortable meeting new people; anybody willing to move slowly with her will get to know one of the most wonderful dogs. I hope this adorable little goofball finds her home soon. And yes, her ears always have that 'one up/one flopped' look. 1/16/24 Foster Feedback: We have been fostering Michigan for about 3 months now.  She is learning all about what a loving, dog friendly home has to offer!   She still loves belly rubs, treats, car rides, chewing on bones/dog toys, chasing after toys outside, morning walks to check out the neighborhood, keeping the fenced yard clear of rabbits and playing with the older male resident dog.  She has taken more interest in the old lady resident dog and tries to initiate play.  When the old lady resists and tries to avoid her, Michigan does pick up on the cue after a few tries. Michigan kennels like a champ- throw a treat in and she happily goes in to find it.  She settles in and hangs out if we need to be gone.     We don't think she was around many people as a young puppy which tends to make her a little anxious around new people and situations.  She has adapted to many different sitters over the last couple months but does need a little time to warm up and trust her new people. We are learning ways to help her adjust.  For example, when guests come over to our house...it's overwhelming!  She is excited, nervous, anxious, and curious all at once.  It's a lot for her!  We have found success by kenneling her before someone comes in.  She will bark initially - often because she also hears the resident dogs barking.  After our guests come in and get seated, we let her out of the kennel.  We offer her treats.  She may initially bark at the new person, but we take her outside to run off a little energy.  When she comes back in, she gets treats or a puzzle toy/peanut butter filled kong and that helps calm her.  By the time she is done with that, she is more comfortable with someone new in the house.  She is curious but prefers not to be the center of attention...right away!  Eventually she settles in and accepts attention from others.   This is why we don't feel she is the right fit for a family with young children.  She just needs more time to adjust to situations than young children are often able to give her.  Once she is comfortable with a family, I think she has potential to be great with all ages, but she is still learning what situations she is fully comfortable in.     She is truly a sweet pup that has come a long way while she has been with the rescue.  At her age, about 1 year, she is still learning.  She is smart and definitely wants to please for cheese (or any treat)!  She can be a little mouthy when she is excited and wants to play but is easily redirected with appropriate toys and I feel she will eventually outgrow that.     She recently wanted to help me do yoga - which for her meant licking my face if I was at her level.  It was so innocent and sweet!  When I sit down on the floor, she is also known for sitting so close that she ends up on my lap!  Sometimes she just wants a hug, then can continue with playtime!  In order to see her at this sweet level of comfort, please know it probably won't happen with the first meeting.  Don't let that discourage you!  She continues to build confidence each day and with each new experience!  We have seen so much growth since Oct. We have also seen less of a reaction with people she has met more than once.  When I first met her she barked at me for about 5 minutes until she got in my car, I gave her cheese and we drove home and became great friends!  I feel like I won the lottery...I earned her trust and you can too!   11/22/23 Foster Feedback: Michigan has been with us for about a month.  We are seeing her become comfortable with new people faster than when we first met!  Once she is comfortable with you, she is incredibly sweet and playful!  She loves car rides, walks, play time in the backyard, belly rubs, chew toys and playing with dog friends!  It didn’t take her long to be comfortable with our 2 older dogs.  She respects the elderly dog and doesn’t try to initiate play.  She seems to understand that one dog will play and the other will not.  She has attended events at Natural Pet Center and Valley Imports.  A steady supply of treats from her foster mom and people she meets helps her excel at these events.  She doesn’t feel like meeting the other dogs at these events, preferring to focus on treats from her new human friends!  She even posed by a couple beautiful cars at Valley Imports!  We have attended a couple classes at Wags and she is so smart!  Being treat motivated makes training a breeze!  She aims to please for cheese!  She is fully potty trained, sleeps through the night and is content to stay in her kennel when we are gone.  Do you have room in your heart and home for this little sweetheart?!?  Did I mention her wagging tail?!?  When she is laying down, resting and one of her favorite people nears, she subtly exposes her belly and then you hear her tail start thumping!  She is so excited to receive love and belly rubs from you she can’t control her tail!  It’s adorable!    11/16/2023 Temporary Care Feedback: Michigan is a sweet girl that is waiting to find her forever home. She is a little shy at first, but once she knows that she can trust you she is so loyal and wants to be your best friend. She loves to go out and play and enjoys belly scratches. All she wants is someone to love her and make her feel safe! She will do the same for you!  09/08/2023 Foster Feedback: Meet Michigan, a well-mannered and affectionate companion. This sweet pup is not only potty trained but also kennel trained, making her a breeze to care for. She's a mixed bag when it comes to cats – while she's generally good with them, her playful instincts might lead to an occasional chase. At night, she peacefully sleeps in her kennel, ensuring a restful night for everyone. With other dogs, she's a friendly playmate, but it may take a little time for her to warm up to new furry friends, so slow introductions are key. Around people, she tends to be cautious initially, but once she trusts you, her loving nature shines through. Michigan can be a bit mouthy at times, a behavior that might not be suitable for very young children. Therefore, a home who can understand and work with her on this aspect of her behavior would be ideal. With the right guidance and patience, she's sure to become an even more delightful addition to your family, providing love and companionship for years to come.To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org July 26, 2024, 3:14 pm

Foster Home Feedback  ** Apartments not recommended due to her loud bark ** No Cats 03/05/2024 Foster Feedback: Here are some reasons why Fleetfoot (we call her Maggie) would be a great dog for you: She is potty trained and will go to the door when she wants to go out. After a period of adjustment, she has really come out of her shell and adjusted well to our family. She sleeps through the night and is as quiet as a mouse. She sleeps on a couch usually but the times that I have put her in her kennel for an extended time, she will stay quiet in there as well.  She enjoys playing with the other dogs in the home. She's young, so she has more energy than they do, but she has no problem playing with a toy by herself as well. She still loves playing tug-of-war and does really good with fetch; she returns it but doesn't always want to drop it so you just have to have 2 toys that you keep throwing. She has learned to understand cues that the other dogs give her. If they want to be left alone and bark or snarl at her, she'll leave them alone. We have a resident "grump" who usually wants to be left alone but this morning I caught Fleetfoot licking her face so they are definitely warming up to each other! Fleetfoot enjoys car rides and prefers to have a window open so she can check out the world outside of her house. She LOVES going on walks.....sniff walks that is. She has her nose to the ground for most of the walk but that helps stimulate her mentally so it's all good. She does well free roaming in my house when I'm not home. While she has chewed on some shoe laces, but not the shoes; that is the extent of her chewing. She likes everyone - adults, kids, female, male.....she's not fussy.  Just be sure to greet her when you come over. She takes treats (loves green beans) from your hand every so gently. Fleetfoot would LOVE to find her FUREVER home so please consider meeting her to see if she would fit in your home.  12/02/23 Foster Feedback:  Hi, my name is Fleetfoot but my foster mom is calling me Maggie Mae and I have grown to love it.   I am such a good girl and I hear it all of the time!  I love getting pets and rubs all over my body and while I do enjoy cuddling next to you on the couch, there are times that I'm happy just being by myself too.  I love playing outside and one of my favorite things to do is to fetch a toy.  I am working on the "Drop" command but it's hard to remember to drop the toy so I can chase it again because I really like playing tug of war too!  While I am still working on that command, I have learned the "sit" and "down" command and I do really well when my name is called.  Sometimes I play outside with the neighborhood kids and they love me.   I like eating snow and ice cubes! I enjoy going on walks and I do pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!  I do pull on the leash a little bit but I'm working on that. I like to walk a couple of steps in front of my foster mom to make sure it is safe for her to follow.   I am very interested in other dogs and people and I tend to bark, but it's only because I either want them to come over and pet me or I'm looking for a play date.  I don't mean any harm by it.  I love going for car rides; I usually lay down in the back seat quietly.  If it's not too cold outside, I love having a window partly down sometimes, so I can stick my head out and smell everything around me.   At night time, my foster mom lets me lay next to her in the bed.  I might start off there but I usually end up on the floor or on the couch in the next room.  I don't ever wake her up in the morning.  I let her do that so she can feel like she's in charge. When she leaves the house, she throws some treats in my kennel and I willingly go in and lay down.  I'm quiet as a mouse when I'm in there; actually quieter than if she had left me outside of the kennel so it's a win win for both of us; I get to rest in my safe place while she's gone and she gets an untouched house when she returns. I hope you'll take the time to meet me soon!  I'm hoping that my furever family is out there looking for me right now so I can spend the holidays with you! Woof (Sincerely), Maggie Mae (Fleetfoot) 10/28/23 Foster Feedback: Do want a dog with personality?  Fleetfoot is for you! Fleetfoot has been with me for a few months. She has lots of energy and loves to play fetch with anything - a ball, a stick, it doesn't matter. Looking out the window is a favorite pastime. She likes to hide her bones EVERYWHERE! She gets along with other dogs but isn't good with cats. She goes in her crate fine but takes a few minutes to calm down. Fleetfoot is still working on potty training but she will let you know when she needs to go out. We are working on our walks, she pulls a little at first but then settles down. She is not a resource guarder but has been known to steal a treat or two. She hasn't shown aggression toward children, but they might be startled or knocked over by her exuberance. If you have experience with German shepherds this is the dog for you! She is very sweet but she is very very active. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org July 26, 2024, 3:14 pm
