Story
Jack is a three year old Golden Doodle who is an amazing companion. He loves to be active on walks, runs, and anything outdoors. He was adopted in Frostproof, Florida and has been with me since he was 8 weeks old. He has been around a lot of kids throughout his life (my nieces and nephews) and is always making new puppy friends at the dog parks. Jack is eager to please, very smart and well behaved. Jack does not usually bark throughout the day, and his temperament although he gets really excited when meeting new people and still jumps sometimes is pretty easy going when it's just you and him at home.

He’s full of love and personality, with a beautiful pair of mismatched eyes that make him truly one of a kind. Conway loves long walks (even if he’s a little wild at first—he’s working on it!) and has the cutest, bouncy trot when he gets excited. He’s very food-motivated and listens well, especially if peanut butter KONGs are involved—his absolute favorite! Conway even joined in on our Easter Egg Hunt, but in true Conway fashion, he was more interested in snuggles than the treat-filled eggs. He’s a lover through and through, always looking to connect and soak up attention. Conway is looking for a home that will embrace his energy, continue his training, and give him all the love and peanut butter he can handle. Building Volunteer Feedback 4/17/25:Conway is an angel!!! He did really well today, rode in the car great (he just really wanted to get in the front to give kisses). We went on a long walk then laid outside in the grass for awhile for belly rubs. Conway sat on the couch once we got back and then found some toys. He listens very well but he does like to jump on people. Former Foster Feedback 3/26/25: I fostered Conway when he was first with the rescue. He is a very sweet dog that got along great with my pup Rusty and any other dogs that he met. He never was aggressive. He would sleep on the bed with us and never had any accidents in the house. We liked to give Conway free reign of the house, and he did very well. He never chewed on anything, would lay around, play with Rusty and look out the window. When in our back yard he would run around, chase the ball, and play with Rusty. Conway would not bark or really care about the dogs in the adjoining yard. He would love to sit with you on the couch or crawl up on your lap in the chair, just wanting attention and love! I would take him back in a heartbeat if I didn't have another foster. Anyone that wants a well-behaved low-key loving companion, Conway is definitely the one. 9/15/24 Building Volunteer Feedback: This afternoon I got to take Conway for a few hours for a kennel break to my yard. He was so good with my kids (8 & 12) and husband for first time meeting. He did not jump on any of them, like he has at the kennel.  Conway played fetch with all of them, went to each of my kids to have them throw the ball, chased a little after some of the bigger (soccer-size) balls but seemed to like the smaller ones (tennis-size) balls better. The neighbor dogs came charging at the fence very aggressively (who are you?) barking but not a peep came out of Conway. All he did was go sniff them at the fence and they trotted along the fence a bit to continue to do the meet and greet. Eventually the other dogs calmed down. Each time they went towards the fence, they just sniffed each other, and no other barking occurred. I took Conway for a walk by the pond. When we saw other dogs on the walk, his ears perked up to acknowledge them but absolutely no barking came from him towards the other barking dogs. Conway is an exceptionally good walker, with a little pull at times but not too much. Conway appears to like to roam in the car - going to back seat, passenger seat, then standing in middle of console and rotating again. I was the only one in the car, so he had lots of space to check out and explore. Conway did not bark once in the 3.5+ hours that he was here. He did great in the yard, with no attempts to escape or jump the fence. We did not leave him alone outside so eyes were on him the whole time. 9/14/24 Building Volunteer Feedback: Conway loves people. Treats and toys are fun as well, but pair with people and he's in heaven. He is inquisitive but not destructive. Conway has bursts of energy, but I imagine he will relax into a nice house dog for someone who bursts with him. He loves snuggles and belly rubs and kisses on the top of his head. Conway hates being in his kennel at the building and he barks and jumps to show his dissatisfaction. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org May 9, 2025, 6:58 pm

She is seriously one of the most amazing, hilarious, chatty, loving, magical, unreal, goofy, sweet, comical, and entertaining dogs I’ve ever met, and did I say amazing? Or chatty? This girl has been doing great with both our male and female dogs, but she especially has taken a liking to our female and wants to play play play with her. She’s an adorable bull in a china shop when she plays and plays very well. My camera roll can speak to how fun it is to watch her play. She’s also been doing great with our senior kitty. Laylah has lots of opinions on life and what you’re doing, what the neighbors are doing, what the other animals in the house are doing, what people across the street are doing, what the dog barking across the neighborhood is doing, how you’re driving, how other people are driving etc…these opinions are downright hilarious but that said she should not go to any living situation where there are shared walls (apartment, condo, duplex, etc). Your neighbors will file a noise complaint immediately. Speaking of noise, this girl could get a job making sound effects - there are times she sounds like a car that won’t turn over, a pig, a horse, a cow, a gremlin, and the list goes on and on. Laylah is seriously one of the sweetest and loving dogs I’ve ever met. Everyone who meets her falls madly in love, and she is a hit wherever she goes. If you’re sitting on the couch, she will dive into your lap to cuddle and won’t leave. She desperately wants to be loved on and hasn’t met a single person she hasn’t wanted to make out with. Laylah loves to go on walks, and she walks pretty well with a harness. She does well on walks in cooler weather, but with that short snout of hers, she will struggle with breathing as it gets warmer out. Her forever family needs to be cautious of her ability to easily overheat and take the right precautions to not put her in situations where she will be in the heat for long periods. Laylah kennels during the day when we’re at work, and although she protests with choice words, she keeps her kennel clean and in one piece. She has a history of eating things she shouldn’t, so kenneling her or at least confining her to a space where she can’t get into anything is in her best interest. Laylah has only had one accident in our house, but it was our fault; we didn’t let her out shortly after drinking a lot of water. Laylah, or loudmouth Laylah as we loving call her, has wiggled her way deep into our hearts and although she will take a piece of our hearts with her when she’s adopted we are so excited for her to meet her forever family and live the rest of her years as the spoiled bougie girl she is. She deserves only the best of the best. Is it you?To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org May 9, 2025, 6:58 pm

He's a spunky dude with a TON of energy. Tug is his absolute favorite thing to do. He knows his basic commands and does them almost immediately when prompted. Sit, lay down, stay, and shake to name a few. Mayor McCheese  picks up on things fast so he's pretty quick to learn. He is very food motivated so that helps. He does good in his kennel but gets to free roam the house the majority of the time with little to no issues. We've only had a couple accidents because he wasn't feeling well. He is a counter surfer so watch out for that as he had to have a cooking utensil removed from his stomach. He's gotten better since. Mayor McCheese  does well on walks and bike rides. Our yard is fenced so he gets to run the fence with the neighbors doodle. Mayor McCheese does alright with most of the dogs he's been introduced to. Slow introductions are best as he gets overstimulated. He does play well but doesn't seem to know when to quit. He backs off when other dogs correct him but he does have a tendency to go right back to it and can be irritable to the other dogs so monitored play and breaks are required.  Mayor McCheese does have a big fear of strangers and it's been a main focus and concern when working with him and on outings around other people. Very very slow introductions are a must. He seems to do better with women and children and isn't as fond of men. He loves the neighbor kids and has learned that some of our friends and the people in my neighborhood aren't scary and goes into a couple of the garages for treats. He's an absolute ham when he eventually warms up to you, but does take some time. Mayor McCheese is a good boy who needs an active family that's willing to give him plenty of exercise and continue to work with him on his confidence and fears. 10/28/2024 Foster Feedback: Mayor McCheese is such a good and sweet boy! He has been with me for a couple weeks now and I have learned so much about him! He is a lover dog and just wants to be next to his humans - he will be your shadow! Even more, he aims to please and luckily, he is a fast learner. One day in our foster home and he learned to sit by the patio door when he is ready to go outside for a bathroom break and has picked up on queues from our resident dog. We are continuing to work on his manners as he is always curious to see if anything has been left behind for him on the countertops.  He kennels GREAT while we are gone for the day, which ranges from 5-8 hours. He does require moderate stimulation and exercise or can get wound up with zoomies by the end of the night. He walks great and can be easily redirected when he sees other dogs walking with small training treats and tongue clicks/noises.  He does best with dogs smaller (in size) than him and would do great with another dog to play and wrestle with. Controlled introduction between Mayor and other dogs has been the best experience thus far, as he gets overstimulated and worked up when he meets other hyper dogs. We do not have a fenced yard at our foster home, but I do think it would be in Mayor's best interest to have a fenced yard to free roam. He is mostly self-entertained with lots of stuffy toys, feeder puzzles, filled bones/Kongs/etc.  Mayor is going to make an amazing and loving addition to a family and has SO much room to grow into specific training skills and is already showing flexibility in various work schedules. Take a chance on this handsome fellow - you will be so happy you did!  &#226&#128&#139 To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org May 9, 2025, 6:58 pm

They came back as suspect histiocytomas, but because that type of mass typically occurs in young dogs, the histopathologist is suspicious of cutaneous Langerhan’s cell histiocytosis. Though these masses are typically benign, they may continue to grow, and some may grow faster than others. We have seen some growth and then shrink. The masses may need to be removed per vet recommendation if they show signs of infection. 4/29/2025 Foster Feedback:  Hi, this is Rico, and although nothing has changed about me other than I am almost 12 years old… I’m letting all of you know I am still available to adopt!  I am a darn near perfect gentleman whose feet never leave the floor unless I need to get on the couch! I can no longer jump up on the bed, but my foster mom hoists me up every night, even though by morning I kinda only leave her just a teensy spot on the edge of the bed. She tells me she loves to fall asleep with her hand on my soft fur, and I love it too. My skin is perfect, and I only need 2 medicated baths a month, plus my one med to keep it that way. I so appreciate 4 Luv of Dog and my foster mom giving me everything I need to not be itchy and scratchy.  I am a spry old guy, and I still see and hear just fine. I love a long walk once a day, and then I am happy to nap on my favorite dog bed in the kitchen, my spot on the couch, or on my red blanket out in the yard, catching some rays for the majority of the day…But I do get playful about dinner time, and my mom and I play keep away and chase each other around the house or yard for a few minutes with toys. With the warmer weather, I’m meeting lots of people on walks, and I’m always happy about that. Mom tells me I am a hoot and a love, and I think those words mean I’m a very good boy.  11/21/24 Foster Feedback: Happy Thanksgiving everyone from Rico Suave and his foster family!  He loved his summer and early fall at the lake and since moving back to town has enjoyed long walks every day and accompanying me to most places I go. Rico is a patient guy and waits nicely in the car while I deliver meals to seniors or go to the grocery store. At home he lounges on one of his many dog beds and at night he gives me 12” on the edge of our king-sized bed!   Rico’s skin has been just excellent…no dander and baths only needed every 10 days to 2 weeks.  Rico is a quiet guy with absolutely PERFECT house manners.  He doesn’t need to be kenneled, but he often goes in on his own for a snooze.  He is in excellent condition physically…no sore joints, great vision and hearing too. He is finally getting a few white hairs as it befits his almost 11.5 years.   I know Rico looks grumpy in his pictures, but really, he isn’t at all!  He just doesn’t get too excited about anything…a true go-with-the-flow guy.  Rico is still waiting for someone to pick him to love 6/24/24 Foster Feedback: Handsome Rico is lovin’ life at the lake this summer!  Favorite pastimes are sleeping in, sunbathing naps on the blanket softened patio, hoping someone shares a Zorbaz pizza on the pontoon.  His skin has been great and dander is gone!  He is the healthiest and youngest 11 year old ever!  Still looking for a retirement buddy. I know it says a 6’ fence needed, but a baby gate is probably enough. Such an easygoing, quiet guy.  He is even making friends with a chihuahua. He is a dreamboat!  Love him to pieces!! 2/28/24 Foster Feedback: This distinguished, handsome and spry senior is still patiently waiting (over 900 days now!) for a kind hearted person to share their heart and home with him.  He needs so little…a soft dog bed or a fuzzy blanket on an end of your couch is just fine for Mr. Suave. This guy is easy peasy,  rarely barks, eats and travels well, never has a potty accident, kennels beautifully or can be left loose in the house and is friendly with adult strangers. He isn’t the most photogenic as his expression never changes…it literally always looks the same whether he’s happy, sad, excited or mad. He may look grumpy but he’s definitely not.  Rico does have some skin issues requiring weekly medicated baths, but he jumps right into either the tub or shower with no problem at all. His skin medication is only $60 a month and he is not on prescription food either.   During this mild winter, he has been willing to take a long walk just about every day. He walks loose leash perfectly. He also will run after a tennis ball a few times and throw his stuffed fox in the air. He is looking forward to some sun bathing on the patio soon!   I hope Rico gets a chance to meet one of you looking for a perfect companion.  10/21/2023 Foster Feedback: This is Rico Suave and I can’t believe not even one person has asked to meet me over the last two years. I've been anchoring the list of available dogs for waaay too long considering what an agreeable, affectionate and well-behaved guy I am! The only time I ever bark is if the doorbell wakes me up from a snooze. I’m not interested in looking out windows so I never even see the mailman, I have never put my front paws on a counter ever, and I never bother or chew on anything. My foster mom tells me every day what a good boy I am and I really really am!   I love to ride in the car and am quiet and calm, I don’t need to go outside to do my duty more than a few times a day. I sometimes like to go for a 6-8 block walk (I never pull), but mostly I’m content to just lay on whatever dog bed is closest to where my foster mom is. I even love to just be in my kennel with the door open. Since I’m such a good boy, I have run of the house when my family is gone. If you read under my picture about some growths I had in the past, I am happy to tell you I haven’t had any more! Yay for me! Although I am almost 10.5 years old, I am very spry and have absolutely no old age aches or pains, my muzzle isn’t grizzled and my eyes see very well. What I do have are a lot of skin tags and warts and I need to have a medicated shampoo every 5-6 days to keep my sensitive skin doing good. I do have more dander than an average dog, but my mom says it’s not a big deal to swiffer or vacuum more often. She keeps a blanket or sheet over the bed and the couch that I have permission to sleep on. I take cyclosporine every day to help my skin and occasionally have a cytopoint shot if my skin gets itchy.  While I want to be your only pet, I don’t act bad when I see another dog on a walk, and I don’t give a hoot about geese, squirrels or turkeys wandering around.  The best thing about me is all the love I show to my foster mom and dad. I am happiest when they sit down so I can invade their personal space and lay my big noggin on their lap! I am such a loveable guy and I know there has to be a forever person out there somewhere for me. I am waiting for you…please come and pick me as your companion and friend!   06/12/2023 Foster Feedback: Grandpa Rico is still patiently waiting for his forever home while living at the lake this summer and experiencing new activities. He took his first pontoon ride and was very comfortable just hanging out looking at other boats and the scenery passing by. I also brought him into the water and confirmed he can swim…but he really didn’t enjoy it much.  What he does really enjoy is basking in the sun on the concrete…and we do short sessions a few times a day. Mostly he just naps the day away staying close to where I am. He is such an affectionate, calm and loving dog! Go with the flow Rico is so well behaved…he never gets into anything, keeps all 4 paws on the floor and jumps right into the tub for his weekly medicated bath. He rarely woofs at strangers walking on the beach road anymore and is content to just walk around the yard with me for exercise a few times a day. Rico is such an easy dog…he just needs a home without kids, has a fence and no other pets. He will give you all the love you need!     5/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Grandpa Rico has gone from holding down the couch to lawn ornament status basking in the warmth of the sun! Rico may have a grumpy countenance, but he is one of the most agreeable and go-with-the-flow dogs we have had the pleasure of fostering. His allergies still require medicated baths every five days and yep, he does have more than usual amounts of dander…but it’s an easy fix with a vacuum and swiffer!   Rico is a good eater, keeps all four feet on the floor (except when snuggling on the couch or sleeping just as close as he can possibly can to you in bed at night.) He doesn’t snore, kennels beautifully or can be left to free roam, only wants a short walk on nice days, has never chewed on anything human related, rides quietly and calmly in any vehicle and rarely barks. Look at that adorable little tip of his tongue that escapes his mostly toothless gums.  Although Rico wants to be your only pet, he is not reactive when seeing other dogs on walks or while riding in the car. He really is such a very, very good boy!     1/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Rico Suave has been with us since Christmas and we LOVE him!  We are retired and mostly home and he is happy not being kenneled all day. Rico is just the easiest and sweetest old man and has excellent house manners and a quiet, loving, and gentle nature. Literally, all he needs is a comfy dog bed or the end of a couch to nap on…and someone willing to give him frequent medicated baths to help his skin.  Rico doesn’t play with toys or chew on bones but will be happy to take a walk on warmer days, go for rides in the car or cuddle up next to you. He is a champion napper…happiest when he is right next to you with his huge noggin resting on your lap 9/6/2022 Foster Feedback: Rico has been doing well this summer. He enjoys napping on the cement, going for short walks, listening to turkeys (they don't bother him), and playing 5 minutes of tug of war every week. It's a big regiment for a big fella in his retirement phase of life. Rico has been doing very very well on walks; not reacting to other dogs or other critters out on walks. He is still a very treat-motivated old man. Rico sure would like to lounge in his forever home very soon! 7/21/2022 Volunteer Feedback: Rico Suave is a precious old man who would love to be someone's best buddy. His talents include snacking, pondering the meaning of life, and making sure the couch isn't going anywhere. He likes to be close to or directly on his people while just hanging out, or patrolling the great outdoors and taking in all the local sniffs. He's one of those gentle giants who may look like a grump but is secretly a total softie who isn't afraid to show his love with kisses and snuggles. 2/9/2022: Rico is the perfect winter dog in my mind as he has no interest in long walks in the cold or the snow; he just wants to go out for business purposes only. He loves his walks in the warmer weather of course. Rather than a long cold, snowy walk, he would rather just have a tasty treat out of his kong and then snuggle up for a nap. Handsome man Rico hasn't had any new bumps since the last bumps in the fall disappeared, so that is great news! Rico recently attended a "VIP" dog event the rescue collaborated with Down Dog Studio and Rico got to spend half an hour getting about a million pets from strangers; he was an absolute ham. He is pouting and sad he didn't find his forever home but, he looks forward to you giving him the next million pets. Rico grows weary of his foster father coming home from volunteering at the shelter almost daily and smelling like other dogs while he sits in his kennel; it's just not right for an old pup in his retirement years! 8/27/21:  Rico has been with me for a couple of months now. Rico was returned to the rescue after about 7 years, so he is really thankful 4 Luv of Dog has been there twice to take him in. Rico has been a very easy dog to have in the home. He is a fantastic house guest, I am more than happy to let him spend a little time here while he searches for that perfect retirement home. Rico will spend most of the day sleeping. He might follow you around the house a little but generally, he is going to find a cozy spot if there isn't a lap to settle into. Rico is kennel trained and spends his time while I am away in his kennel. He does well and seems comfortable. I always give him a reward for kenneling, and he usually gets breakfast in his kennel before I leave for work. He is potty trained and hasn't had any accidents.  Rico generally gets a little exercise after I return from work and then it's nap time again for Mr. Suave. Rico does love walking and exploring, occasionally even running. As a distinguished older gentleman, however, he doesn't really need extreme amounts of exercise daily as some dogs require. Rico is an oinker that absolutely loves his food and treats, which is great for training and having him follow your directions. That being said, his weight is doing pretty well and he has lost a few pounds since his initial vet visit, as the vet recommended. Rico's transition from his old home of about 7 years to a stay at the shelter, then to my home was not very easy for him. He was also coming off a prescription of steroids per the veterinarian's advice. While he was completely content inside my apartment almost immediately, he did take some adjustments to the neighborhood on walks. Other people and dogs would stress him out if we got too close. He really needed decompression time to get used to his new surroundings. 4 Luv of Dog sent Rico and me through a six-week training course  "Over Reactive Rover"  through Down Dog Studio to help him overcome this hurdle, and it has helped immensely. Rico has been much easier and calmer to walk and has picked up very well on everything we have been taught. I would, of course, go over some of the things we worked on so he can continue to be successful in his retirement home. I would also encourage adopters to continue training as training classes are just as much for the owner as for the dog. I feel like Rico's transition from his foster home to an adoptive home will be much easier than the transition from the shelter to a foster home. This coupled with the training Rico has received has him really looking forward to lounging around with you, so please consider adopting Rico to help him finish his journey out of the rescue for good!!To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org May 9, 2025, 6:58 pm

He was great in the car and loved getting a Pup Cup. We went for a walk in the park, and he was great walking on the leash. He liked stopping many times to sniff lots! Hozier got very excited and jumpy when passing other dogs in the park, so that he could work on, but otherwise, he was good! Hozier was a sweetheart at my house and loved playing with lots of toys. 4/18/25 Building Volunteer Feedback: Hozier is one of my favorites, he's so full of happy energy! His different colored eyes and his soft white coat will make him a hit with everyone he meets! He loves people, is an excellent walker, loves fetch and tug, and has the cutest zoomies. Hozier tends to bump and gently mouth people to show affection, so if small children are around they'll need to be aware that he needs time to chill out. I don't know if he'd be inclined to escape, but his jumping ability might warrant a 6ft fence. Hozier is a very good boy who can't wait to have people to love him and a place to show off his speed!   4/17/25 Building Volunteer Feedback: Hozier had an amazing day full of adventures! We went on a lovely walk, enjoyed a fun car ride, and had a great time playing afterwards. He was so excited to meet someone new—he gave me an enthusiastic jump at first, but quickly settled down and showed off his best manners when redirected. Hozier absolutely loved getting pets and attention! The only moment Hozier got  a little mouthy was while putting on his harness, but it was playful and he’s learning how to redirect that energy. On our walk, Hozier was a dream—no pulling, just happy tail wags and the occasional sniff break. Even when tempted by things on the ground, he responded quickly to redirection and went right back to walking like a pro. In the car, Hozier was a total champ. He loved taking in all the smells. When we stopped for a pup cup, he got excited but remained polite and well-mannered the whole time. 4/6/2025 Volunteer Feedback: I've only had shift with Hozier a couple of times, but tonight, I took him to a Social Hour class. Hozier rode really well in the car, only sitting on me when we parked because he figured out we were getting out of the car and was ready to go! :) This sweet, energetic guy did really well on redirection and listening to the multiple volunteers who worked with him in class tonight. We were working on some of Hozier's leash manners as well as his jumping when excited. Hozier was doing well listening to the commands "Sit" and "Down", even showed he can, for the most part, "Lay down" but it is a little short-lived.  To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org May 9, 2025, 6:58 pm
