Meet Alma!Alma came into the shelter on August 19th as a stray.Alma came to us knowing that she loves all people. She is as inviting as a cold pillow on a summer afternoon and sweeter than the ice cream cone you have after dinner. So far, she has been nice to other dogs, and we plan to introduce her to a play group soon. She walks well on a leash but can sometimes pull a little due to the excitement that is “going on walkies”.Even though Alma hasn’t been with us for long, she is a very patient girl when waiting her turn to go in the yard and hardly ever has an accident in her kennel. She does not know many tricks, besides the ability to steal your heart, but she does try her best to show you that she is the best girl. Our staff says that they love how Alma is a girl who would never say no to your affections and how she wags her tail with her whole body. Also, the happier she is to see you, the larger her eyes get because she just can’t contain her excitement! Meet Smiley!Smiley came into the shelter on April 27th as a surrender due to too many animals in one house.Smiley is still a scaredy-cat when it comes to new people. However, she will let people go into her kennel and pet/ interact with her. She is fantastic in her play groups and has gotten along with many of our other dogs. She has also previously lived with a cat but may not be the best for a house with small children. She is also a pretty good leash walker and looks forward to walkswith familiar faces. Smiley has always been a tidy girl and keeps a spotless kennel. She is well potty trained and will even go into her own kennel in the evenings when she gets an established routine. She loves to eat her peanut butter Kongs in the evenings and won`t say no to Pupperonis or a chicken nugget either. Our staff says that some of their favorite things about Smiley are that she has an endearing smile accompanied by a soft tail wag, and she will paw you to ask for attention in the gentlest way she knows how. Meet Pixie!Pixie came into the shelter April 27th, surrendered with her 4 litter mates from a home where there were too many dogs. Pixie was obviously very pregnant when she came in, in fact, it was only 9 days later and she had given birth to 8 beautiful puppies.Pixie was very shut down when she came in but, she hasn’t completely given up, she actually has fallen for one of our ACOs so she has tremendous hope with some love she has really shown to be a wonderful dog. She is very shy with new people but enjoys someone to sit with her and give her treats and she especially loves a peanut butter kong. Pixie will need some leash and potty training. She does jump up on her favorite staff member so obedience training will also be needed, she does know sit though. One of our staff members says “once you have this girl’s trust, she is yours! She will look for you, and all she will want to do is be by your side. Meet Neil!Neil came into the shelter July 14th found stray in the city limits of Alpine by a good Samaritan. When Neil came in, he was very scared. Once he got to know us, he warmed up beautifully. He doesn’t seem to want to hang out with kids but one that is calm and respectful will likely be ok. He just doesn’t like too much action on around him. Neil has done great in play group. It has really helped build his confidence and was a huge help getting comfortable to the shelter life. He is still practicing his leash walking but gets better every day. He also seems to be very potty trained; he will wait for his turn in the yard.Neil is going to need a special person that is willing to take the time to get to know him. Meet Amor!Amor came into the shelter on August 19th as a stray.Amor is always happy to meet new people with a wag of her little knub. Her sweet smile and squinty eyes always brighten up around new people. Amor was recently put into a play group with two other dogs and seems to be doing well. She is not much of a high-energy player, but she doesn’t seem to mind their company. She is still perfecting her leash-walking skills but improves every day! Our volunteers and staff love walking with her. Amor is really good about keeping a clean kennel. She doesn’t know any tricks yet, but we think it would be easy to train her because she is people- and cookie-motivated. She loves jerky treats, Milk Bones, Beggin’ Stripes, Pupperoni, and almost anything you hand her. She also likes to chew on NylaBone toys, snuggle up in blankets, and just be right by your side. Our staff says that their favorite thing about her is that she is the biggest sweetheart in the world; all she wants to do is lie at your feet, talk to you, or have you pet her belly.
