Story
Meet Buck! Buck came into the shelter August 31st, found running loose with another dog outside of Alpine City limits. He was adopted but has sense returned to the shelter, to no fault of his own. Buck gets along with other dogs and has done well in play group. He seems indifferent with cats, there may need to be a safe introduction with cats and him in a new home, we don’t think he knows what they are yet!Buck is shy around new people but once he gets to know you, he is oh so happy to see you! Buck is great on a leash and enjoys going on walks with our staff and volunteers. Buck had some time to learn potty training in his last home so he should be fairly easy to train in a new home. One of our staff members said their favorite characteristic is that Buck is energetic and goofy. Come meet Buck at the Alpine Animal Services Shelter, 2900 Old Marathon Hwy Alpine, TX 79830. Meet Mavis!Mavis came into the shelter with her buddy Bruno on December 13th after being surrendered by their family who were moving and could not take them.We are still waiting for her to heal from her spay but as soon as she does, we will introduce her to other dogs. She does great with her giant brother Bruno though.Mavis is still learning not to pull when she is walking on a leash but does love to go for a walk with us. She also seems to be potty trained, she tends to wait for her turn in the yard. She loves to play in the water so if you are one to visit a lake, you better bet she is going to make a splash! Mavis loves any and all treats, especially her peanut butter kong at night. How can you resist that cute smile? Come meet Mavis today at the Alpine Anim animal Services Shelter, 2900 Old Marathon Hwy Alpine, TX 79830.

Story
Meet Namir!Namir came into the shelter on July 4th, 2025, found running loose in the City of Alpine. This guy has really come a long way. He came in pretty banged up and with an eye infection which we have since treated and he is now looking fantastic! He was not sure what to think of us all at first, but with just a few days of love, understanding and reassurance, Namir has come out of his shell and is showing to be the sweetest boy.Namir has been introduced to a few dogs already, he was pretty unsure about the bigger, playful Pit Bull type but loved being with a dog his own size and temperament, which is just playful enough, NOT TOO MUCH! Haha!He is a wonderful leash walker, and once the walk is over, he wants to play tug of war with it with you. Our staff says their favorite characteristics are that he has a sweet demeaner and goofy personality. Come meet Namir today at the Alpine Animal Services Shelter, 2900 Old Marathon Hwy Alpine, TX 79830.

Story
Meet Cereal!Cereal came into the shelter January 5th from a hoarding case in Terlingua Texas. He was the only adult dog that they were not able to find a temporary foster home for. Cereal was very scared when he came into the shelter. We were not sure if he would ever trust us but with a week’s worth of sitting with him and reassuring him that everything was going to be ok and letting him know that the shelter was a safe space for him, he made leaps and bounds one milestone at a time. First, it was cuddling with one of the ACOs then, going to the yard for much needed yard time then, walking on a leash with a volunteer. Now the sky is the limit for the guy, he knows we are here to love and support him so he is fully trusting of the staff and volunteers in his care. Cereal seems very interested in meeting other dogs; we look forward to introducing him to some new friends once he is healed from his neuter. His previous owner did tell us that he loved their kids, so he is likely to be good in a home with kids. Cereal keeps a clean kennel and is getting better every day on a leash, we anticipate not a lot of basic training needed for this guy just a routine to learn. He loves his peanut butter kong at night and can’t resist a stuffed toy. The staff says that their favorite characteristics of Cereal are that he loves to give hugs and has a beautiful big smile. This guy loves to love!Come meet Cereal today at the Alpine Animal Services Shelter, 2900 Old Marathon Hwy Alpine, TX 79830.

Lassie came into the shelter with her sister Sloan April 19th, 2024, picked up running loose outside of the city limits of Alpine. When her and her sister came in, they were leery of people but, who could blame them. The girls have been getting better every day especially after being introduced to other dogs, they really came out of their shell and are so excited to play.Lassie can still be a little shy with new people but loves the attention once she gets it.She`s a talker! One of our staff members said that is their favorite characteristic of her!She is still working on leash walking but is picking it up, she is still a puppy after all. She does need some training but what better time to do some puppy training than during the summer! She loves treats and toys so training should be fun for you and her.
