Born blind, Maxine has never let her disability define her. In fact, anyone who meets her quickly realizes that she doesn't see herself as any different from any other dog. She confidently navigates her home, yard, and even stairs with ease, embracing life with joy, curiosity, and determination. A year ago, Maxine thought she had found her forever home. She was deeply loved by her family, and they loved her right back. Unfortunately, despite working with trainers and trying every possible solution, Maxine developed an irresistible urge to chase the family's cat. When their veterinarian determined that the cat's stress levels were seriously affecting her health, her family was faced with an impossible decision. With heavy hearts, they returned Maxine to our rescue, hoping we could help her find the perfect home where she could truly thrive. Now Maxine is waiting for her second chance. This sweet girl is happiest when she's surrounded by people who love her. She's accustomed to having her family nearby and enjoys being part of daily life. While she is crate-trained when needed, she'd much rather be spending time with her humans, exploring the world by their side. Maxine loves adventure. Walks and hikes are among her favorite things, and she would be thrilled to join an active family who enjoys spending time outdoors. A fenced yard would be wonderful, but an adopter who enjoys regular walks and outdoor activities would make her just as happy. She gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy having a playful canine companion. However, she would do best with dogs who appreciate an energetic friend rather than senior dogs looking for peace and quiet. Because of her strong prey drive, Maxine cannot live with cats. In her foster home, Maxine has done wonderfully with children who are old enough to understand and respect that she is blind. She has no food aggression and no significant behavioral issues. Occasionally, she may bark when startled, so a quieter home rather than apartment living would likely be the best fit for her. At 25 pounds, Maxine is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and in excellent health. Addie, The Petite and Agile. She's ready to hop on the doggie transport bus and take her freedom ride to her forever home!!! We use a a super reliable transport company. Addison "Addie" spent over a year in a scary shelter, overlooked because she was too terrified to show her true self, just cowered in the back of her kennel, frozen on her bed. The staff of the shelter identified her as one of their residents who desperately needed to be OUT of the shelter have a chance at a future. So she came to me. The first few days were heartbreaking - she trembled at the end of a leash, her tail stayed tucked - always, avoided eye contact. But then one day, it happened, that little tail tip wagged, ever so slightly, still tucked, but it was a major step. After that the growth came faster day by day. And with the help of her foster brother, Joe, she is blossoming into a "real dog!" Addie is surely a mixed breed, but appears may some Feist in her blood. She is athletic, beautiful, sleek, LOVES to chase balls and is incredibly fast. Once the playing is done, she heads straight for her "special spot" on the sofa to snuggle up and relax. Addie is still getting over her fear, making progress daily. When her guard is down she coyly asks for pets, play fetch and loves to snuggle on her soft bed and blanket with the family. She is very food-motivated, which is making her training a breeze! She is currently working hard on her leash walking skills and potty training, gaining confidence every day. She loves her foster brother, Little Joe, and we believe she would do best in a home with another dog. She appears to be 2-3 years old, she is spayed, up-to-date on all vaccinations and prevention, and heartworm negative. Addie needs a patient family willing to work with her, to continue showing her that the world is a safe place. If you have a tennis ball and a cozy spot on your sofa, Addie might be your perfect match! A Note on her Breed: We’ve consulted a few breed identification programs, which suggested a mix of Feist, Rat Terrier, and Staffordshire Terrier. However, since these IDs can be a bit of a guessing game, we can't say for certain. Rocket Man has been in rescue for quite a long time. Some people think that means there is something wrong with the dog. Not always the case - as with Rocket Man. He is a short, stout fella who loves people. All he wants is to be your buddy - to go on car rides and hikes- and sleep by your side. He has a great personality for being your number 1. He does live with another dog, but he would need to have a meet and greet with any other dogs. Why hasn't he been chosen? We have several ordinary looking dogs who are lingering in rescue. They aren't flashy with beautiful curls or long, fluffy coats and blue eyes. They are just ordinary looking. Don't be fooled by the black or brown dogs. They can be some of the most special personalities out there. All they need is a chance to show off. Meet Ciunas! Ciunas is an Irish word meaning "calm, silent, or still." Which, we'll admit, is a good description of Ciunas. Sometimes. Other times he's chasing tennis balls and acting like no one has ever told him that he's technically a senior, wiggly his little nub of a tail as fast as possible as he tries to climb into your lap and have you scratch all those itchy spots he can't reach, and using his biggest bark to tell you exactly how you've offended him and what you can do to make it right. There's no denying that he's a strange little dog - shaped like a particularly fat sausage with the littlest legs that can move at remarkable speeds and filled with an opinionated, feisty, and at the same time extremely sweet personality. Ciunas can be a little shy at first and he appreciates when people take things slow and go at his pace, so he'd prefer not having to live or interact with children in the home. That said, he has lived with dogs before with no concerns at all. He's a chunky little man and is on a weight loss journey in order to improve his overall quality of life and joint health - he came in weighing 27 pounds with an estimated ideal weight of only 15. Ciunas is in our special adoption program which sets adopters and their new pets up for success with pre and post adoption counseling. He would do best in an adult-only home with adopters who are savvy with dog body language and are ready to take things slow, earn his trust, and teach him how to make good life decisions (for example, it's not kind to growl at the vet, Ciunas.)
