Story
Age: 9 months Size: 35 lbs Estimated breed: Labrador retriever/Shepherd mix Resident dog required as Cilantro is still working on building his self confidence. Cilantro was found dumped on the side of the road with his 6 littermates. They were completely emaciated and starved for food. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan picked them up and took them to the shelter, where they could finally eat and drink, but they still were not safe. We worked with another rescue to take the puppies into our care, and were able to bring Basil and Cilantro in foster care to wait for their forever homes! Basil did find a home, but Cilantro is still waiting patiently for his. He is a shy but sweet puppy who does great with other dogs and people! Since he is still young, he will need a forever family committed to working with him while he continues to learn everything he needs to know. He is also great with CATS!!!!    To adopt Cilantro, please apply on our website! https://www.keytolionsheart.org/adopt   Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.July 25, 2024, 10:15 pm

Story
The name says it all!! Lovie is one of the loviest 8 month old pups you will ever meet.  She is a happy, go lucky girl who loves to play with her toys and bones (that she has no problem sharing) and just wants to be in loving company. She is great with all people and kids of all ages and sizes, including babies!  She has been great with dogs of all sizes and even does well with cats!!! Going for walks is one of her best qualities as she walks beautifully on a leash. Did we mention she already knows the crate and rides wonderfully in the car?! She really is a wonderful dog who will make a great addition to any home.       July 25, 2024, 10:15 pm

Story
Update 7/22 - Missi is healthy, has gained weight, and is just the sweetest girl. Missi is currently attending board and train and is thriving! She is learning so much. She is doing great with crate and potty training. With structure and continued training, any home would be so lucky to have her! She loves meeting dogs and humans! —— We were contacted by a very Good Samaritan who saw an emaciated dog that was very weak. She struggled to lay down when she finally found a doormat, as she is skin and bones, barely lifting her head when approached. She looked defeated, covered in sores and wounds on contact areas (most likely from being confined in a small area). The woman called us crying at the sight of this dog and together, we were able to get her safely to the vet.  We named her Missi and raced her to our amazing veterinary partner to assess and begin treatment. A investigation was opened but sadly, no owner has been able to be located to find out how she got to be in this unimaginable state. She looks to be a lab and is estimated to be 3 years old. It is rare to see this in our county and we know this did not happen overnight. This would have taken months and months. Missi is safe now and on her way to making a full recovery. It will take time for her to gain the weight she needs and for the sores to heal, but her heart is as big as they come and she wants nothing but to love and be loved.  She seems to be good with cats, all people and has been in the presence of other dogs without any issues. If you would like to adopt Missi, please fill out an application on our website.    July 25, 2024, 10:15 pm

Story
Name: Bondlie Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 9 weeks old (as of 7/16/24) Best Guess for Breed: Lab Mix Weight: About 8 lbs (as of 7/16/24) Good With: Dogs, people, cats and kids - puppies are in the prime of socialization! Story: Blondie was rescued from a shelter in Puerto Rico and we are so happy to have her in a foster home in the DC area now. Blondie is a super sweetie that loves all people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Blondie is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. As a puppy, Bondie will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Blondie is a sweet, fun little puppy. She is on the tiny side, but has a lot of spunk! She loves to run, jump and play with other dogs even those bigger than her, which most of them are much bigger! Get gets along with children and enjoys playing with toys.  Her crate training has been gone very well and she has not had any accidents in the crate. She enjoys naps and loves chew toys.  She would be a fun and loving addition to any family.  The fee to adopt Blondie is $450. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. If you think that Blondie might be your perfect match, apply today!       July 26, 2024, 4:27 pm

Story
Meet HAZEL! Hazel is a very sweet about 2-year old, 58 pound brindle lab/hound mix dog that has traveled all the way from Kabul, Afghanistan to find her furever home in the DC area. Yes, Hazel is one of the almost 300 animals on the historic airlift to Dulles airport in early June by Kabul Small Animal Rescue (KSAR). Hazel does not let her past define her and was very happy for the gentle care during her time at KSAR. Now she is ready to find her furever home here!!! Hazel has done very well adjusting to her DC area foster home -- she is a friendly, sweet dog who likes to cuddle; she enjoys playing with the resident dog in her foster home (a 4-year old former street dog from Moldova). Hazel also settles down to hang out with her people and appreciates the comforts and pampered life style she so deserves. She seems to understand housetraining, is learning some commands, and is learning to walk on a leash. She would be great dog for a single person, couple or family, and would do well alone or with a doggie companion/playmate! If you are looking for a sweet, friendly and playful pup, Hazel might be the one for you! ***Please note that the first step is to fill out an application (It does not commit you in anyway but allows us to discuss with you if you and the dog are a good fit). In addition, an important step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ) , spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Hazel is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. For more information, please email Robin at kinstondogs@verizon.net **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**
