Story
Ready to bring the noise? Meet THUNDA! Thunda is a loving, goofy, high-energy sweetheart who’s equal parts storm and sunshine! This athletic, playful guy has a heart as big as his zoomies and a personality that lights up every room. He’s housetrained, sleeps soundly through the night, and knows plenty of commands like sit, down, bang, up, wait, and come here—proof that he’s as smart as he is fun! Thunda loves toys (especially soft ones he can tear apart), long walks, and tug-of-war sessions. He walks well on a harness, though he can get a little overexcited when he spots another dog or animal—he just wants to say hi and play! He’s done great being left alone in his crate for a few hours and settles calmly when you’re away. Thunda also rides nicely in the car once he’s cozy in his covered crate with some treats. This social butterfly doesn’t have a mean bone in his body—he’s all love, kisses, and tail wags. He’d thrive with an active family or a doggy friend who can keep up with his joyful energy. If you’re ready for a loyal, affectionate companion who brings excitement wherever he goes, come meet Thunda—just be prepared for a little thunder and a whole lot of love! Meet Kilo!Kilo has a big personality and even bigger energy. This young guy is smart, athletic, and eager to engage with the world around him—he just needs the right guidance and structure to help him shine. He would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the day or willing to work gradually on alone-time confidence. He’s friendly, takes treats gently, and is easy to leash, but can get overstimulated. Kilo truly needs an understanding, committed person who’s ready to invest time and patience in him. In return, you’ll gain a loyal, affectionate companion who wants nothing more than to be with his people and has so much potential.

Story
Meet Momma Coco Female | Lab Mix | Estimated 4–5 Years Old We may never know the full story of what Momma Coco has been through—but her body tells us more than enough. When our rescue partner in South Carolina responded to a call about six unwanted puppies, they arrived to find not just the puppies, but their mother—tied to a tree, severely neglected, and barely surviving. One of Coco’s legs had been caught in a fence and chewed off by other dogs. Her teeth are nearly gone, and her emaciated frame shows the signs of long-term starvation. And yet, despite unimaginable hardship, Momma Coco lovingly nursed and raised six healthy puppies with extraordinary devotion. When she had almost nothing left for herself, she still gave everything she had to her babies. There was no way we were going to take her puppies and leave her behind. Coco came into our rescue shortly after, and once she joined us, we learned that she is heartworm positive. We immediately began her treatment, and she is now on the path toward healing—both physically and emotionally. Momma Coco is currently safe in a foster home where she is finally experiencing kindness, consistency, and care. As we’ve gotten to know her, we’ve learned that she thrives in a home with another dog, which helps her build confidence and feel secure. She is potty trained, incredibly sweet, and deeply loving. While she is not a fan of the crate, she is learning to tolerate it with patience and gentle guidance. What shines through most is Coco’s quiet strength, resilience, and soft, loving nature. She is a gentle soul who has endured far more than any dog should, yet still seeks connection and comfort from those around her. Momma Coco will need a home filled with patience, kindness, and understanding—a place where she can truly rest, feel safe, and finally begin a new chapter. If you’re interested in giving this incredible mama the peaceful life she has always deserved, we would love to hear from you. Apply to adopt at www.keytolionsheart.orgDecember 14, 2025, 7:45 pm

Story
Meet Nilo! This beautiful boy has the ultimate puppy dog eyes and one very important (self-assigned) job in his foster home: official greeter and toy presentation specialist. Every time you walk through the door - whoever you are - there he is, tail wagging, proudly showing off whichever stuffie he has chosen for the occasion. It’s his love language, and who doesn’t love a formal greeting with a gift? We found this sweet, gentle soul in the shelter looking utterly defeated, like the light had gone out of him. Shelter staff said Nilo barely moved. He just…existed. Waiting for someone to notice, waiting for someone to care. We did - and now Nilo is thriving as a Miri's boy. He settled into his foster home beautifully and immediately made it immediately clear that he only needs two things from life: his human and his stuffed octopus. Nilo is utterly devoted to his foster mom and wants to be near her all the time, lounging in the yard, on the deck, on the couch - anywhere will do as long as she's nearby. And after his human, his second greatest love is his stuffed octopus. He carries it around everywhere and especially loves showing it off to visitors at the front door. He even clutches it while he's sleeping - and yes, it really is as adorable as it sounds! Nilo is housetrained, leashtrained, a superb car passenger, and great with kids and other dogs. He and his octopus are hoping to find a forever home that is generally calm and quiet with a predictable routine. Their ideal day? Some short walks, a few rolls in the fenced-in yard, a glorious snuggle session on the couch (with ear scratches, please!) - all interspersed with some long naps, of course. Nilo would be happiest in a family where someone is home with him most of the day. While he doesn't love being left alone at first, he's fine once he learns the routine and can trust that his person is coming back. Nilo came to us very overweight so we have him on a strict diet. He needs a forever family dedicated to helping him stick to this diet so he can reach and maintain a healthy weight. This beautfiul boy has so much love to give and is so deserving of receiving it return. Could you be the person he's been waiting his whole life for? Nilo is approximately 88 lbs and 9 years old. Story
Honey is a 10-year-old rescue from Kansas City. We've had her since she was just a few months old, and she moved to Rockville with us in 2021. She is a very loving and cuddly dog. Her favorite thing to do is snuggle on the couch or make a nest in our bed while we are at our desks nearby. The only reason we are considering re-homing her is that she's having a hard time adjusting to our toddler, and we have another baby on the way. We've tried our best, but she's visibly stressed around him, even in controlled settings, and we worry it's affecting her quality of life keeping her separate from the family all the time. She also has a tendency to resource guarding (mostly of things from around the house that she collects in her bed). It's very manageable for adults who understand how to interact with a dog, but we worry it's potentially dangerous for our son, who is autistic. Honey would thrive and have lots of love to give in a home with experienced dog owners who want a couch buddy!
