Name: Curly      Best Guess for Breed:  Flat coated retriever and Lab mix    Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of April 2024     SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  50 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested   Currently Living at:    South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here.   Special adoption considerations: Curly is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky!  They are part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study will be placed at random, in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, this pup will be eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  Post treatment, we will work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test 6 months after treatment concludes, followed by a second test at 9 months.   Curly is Looking For:  A home where he gets treated with dignity and respect. He's tired of going to the dog park and being greeted by jeers - 'Where's Larry? Where's Moe?' and being victim of juvenile slapstick pranks. Enough of that. Plus, his coat is extra lush and gorgeous, so that name is extra irritating.    What he wants is long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures his humans can dream up. He's in his prime and world exploration is high on his wish list! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on it too, but you know what he wants most of all? Pickle was rescued around 2020. He is generally a pretty good dog. Huge lovable and a snuggler. He loves to play with humans and other dogs. He's housetrained and incredibly smart (he can open apartment doors). A second dog would help him immensely here. We are rehoming him because he has severe separation anxiety. Despite spending time and money, we just can't fix it. So much so that he can either escape or chew his way out of any crate (to mitigate this, we purchased a 1200$ separation anxiety crate that will come with him for free). If you live in an Apartment with auto unlocking doors, he will open the door and escape. Pickle needs a home with someone that is there for him at all times or a standalone house that he can freeroam in and not bother the neighbors if he barks while you're away. If you have a yard, he should be attached to a line, so he doesn't get curious and wonder off. If you're outside with him though, he's not going anywhere. He just needs someone with him.
