🖤 Looking for the Perfect Forever Home – Meet Canela 🐾Canela is a beautiful 6-year-old German Shepherd. She came into rescue after her owner’s work situation changed, leaving her spending long hours alone outside. Because she loves people so much and wanted attention, she began jumping the 4-foot fence in search of new friends. A kind neighbor kept her safe until her owner made the difficult decision to surrender her so she could find a home where she’d get the time, love, and companionship she deserves. Here is what her foster writes about Canela:"Over the time we’ve fostered Canela, we’ve fallen in love with what an amazing dog she truly is. She is incredibly loyal, affectionate, and happiest when she’s with her people. She loves to cuddle, sleeps in bed with us, and proudly carries around her stuffed animals like they’re treasures. Canela is smart and eager to learn. She rides great in the truck, walks well on a leash, and enjoys running in a fenced yard. She can comfortably stay in her own room for 8+ hours if needed, although a home where someone works from home would be a wonderful bonus. She has interacted well with neighborhood kids and can do well with other dogs when given slow, proper introductions. She is not cat-friendly and has a high prey drive, so she’ll need a cat-free home. She can be food aggressive, so she should always be fed separately."Canela is spayed and up to date in vaccines. Canela has pannus, a chronic eye condition common in German Shepherds, that is easily managed with a simple daily eye ointment. She is very compliant to get that done!Canela would thrive in a home that offers:🐾 An active lifestyle with daily exercise and mental stimulation🐾 Structure, consistency, and continued training🐾 A fenced yard to safely burn off energy while continuing to work on recall and leash skills🐾 Someone with German Shepherd or other working breed experience🐾 Lots of love and time with her peopleIn return, you’ll have one of the most loyal, loving, and devoted companions you could ask for.We know the perfect family is out there for this sweet girl. Apply to meet Canela at ricopetrecovery.org. The adoption fee for Canela is $200.

Story
Harley Quinn is a sweet, affectionate girl looking for someone willing to give her the structure and guidance she hasn't had before. She's incredibly loving, enjoys soaking up the sun, and has a wonderful balance of energy—she's happy to play when it's time to play, but she's just as content lounging around and relaxing.Harley does best with clear direction. When she's unsure of what's expected, she can become anxious, but she responds very well to calm leadership, routine, and positive reinforcement. She's eager to connect with her person and wants to do the right thing—she just needs someone to show her how. Harley is very smart and very treat motivated so she should be easy to train for an experienced owner. She's potty trained and crate trained. She does well on a leash in everyday handling, though we can't speak to how she is on longer neighborhood walks. She rides well in the car, although she may become anxious while waiting in a parked vehicle. At the vet, she can be nervous at first, but she settles quickly with reassurance and treats.Harley is excellent with other dogs and has a gentle, nurturing personality around them. She almost has a "mom" energy, often choosing to calmly coexist rather than create excitement. She has not been tested with cats or children, so slow, thoughtful introductions would be recommended.Because Harley has spent much of her life without consistent training or socialization, she is not the best fit for a first-time dog owner. She'll thrive with someone who understands dogs, is patient, and is committed to continuing her training and building her confidence. In return, they'll get a loyal, gentle companion who truly wants to be part of the family. Breed experience with German Shepherds would be very valuable as well. Harley is a genuinely good dog with an incredibly kind heart. She isn't looking for perfection—she's looking for someone willing to help her become the confident, happy dog she's capable of being.Harley is up to date on vaccines and is spayed. Apply to meet Harley at ricopetrecovery.org. The adoption fee for Harley is $200

Story
Murphy was known as Sean at the shelter at San Antonio. He had been injured by a car and was taken to the shelter where he was placed on the euthanasia list after a few short days. He didn’t have much hope left and had given up. After seeing the sadness in his eyes, we knew we had to help. He was transported to Ohio and was seen by our orthopedic surgeon who determined he had to lose his long beautiful tail, but there was also a good chance he would need a femoral head ostectomy to correct his hip and leg. Because a small amount of healing was noted, he was given 3 weeks to determine if his body would heal enough on its own and we could spare him the pain of surgery. That turned out to be the case, so this sweet guy only lost his tail. Murphy is doing wonderfully and continues to heal and gain strength. He has been cleared for adoption and is hoping to find a very loving family to give him the life he deserves. Murphy is a shepherd mix. Best guess by the vet is a mix with Chow Chow because of his tiny, flopped over ears, but we aren’t sure. Story
Shotta is a great friendly family dog. He’s only been with me from a breeder since a puppy. He’s house trained as well as crate trained. He’s great with other dogs big and small as well as children. He listens pretty well to commands. All he wants is love and attention all day. Though he is capable of staying home alone for a work shift or a day outside of the house.

He is a very loving partner that is curious, highly interactive, fascinated with outdoors and walks/hikes and playful. He likes cheese, bacon and specifically raw hyde bones. He is amazing with children and women but is a but timid with men due to bad past experiences. An overall loving pet that would highly appreciate a beautiful home.
