Story
Shelly is a 2-year-old, 61 lb Pointer mix who, is an affectionate and sweet girl who is seeking a life of love, where she can star in your home movies and family photos. This beautiful girl is super smart, highly trainable, housetrained, great with other dogs, and oh-so-loyal. She has adorable freckles, a boopable nose, and an A+ body waggle every time she sees her people (we mean it, her entire lower half gets in on the wiggle action)! Shelly is a go-with-the-flow kind of gal, who can happily scamper along a hiking trail as well as be your weighted blanket on the couch. She is working hard on her leash manners and doubles her efforts for hot dogs or cheese. She gets along well with other dogs, seeking affection in a gentle, non-pushy manner. She is looking for a family who can continue her training, and give her love and adventures. Shelly's ideal home would include another dog companion to help boost her confidence and a family committed to continuing her training. Bonus points for kids (she loves them!). Here is what Shelly's fosters had to say about her: "She take a little bit of time to warm up and trust you (for me and my kids this was a day or so, for my husband a bit longer) but she is incredibly sweet and wants to cuddle. She was fantastic with my boys - ages 8 and 11 - and really loved them too. We would crate her at night and when we left the house and she was a little hesitant to go into the crate (treats helped a lot!) but was fine once in there. She'd sleep through the night without a peep. Although she's strong, she doesn't pull on walks unless she sees a squirrel or something. She loves hiking and being in the outdoors so would be great for an active family. Overall, she's a great snuggly dog who just wants to be loved.

Story
This big boy is friendly and full of love. Kev is always happy to see and meet new people, making friends easily. His affection and willingness to listen mean he’s by your side (sometimes even leaning or laying on you) whenever given the chance! Kev has the energy you would expect of a young GSP and will benefit from lots of running and exercise to help him burn off the energy and learn to settle. He’s been known to jump or scale a fence, so secure fencing is crucial. He is active and at times doesn’t realize his size. Once he’s settled, he’s quiet and gentle. It’s the ideal time to perfect the cues he’s learning like down, stay, and shake. Kev is looking for a home that will continue his training and exercise him well. He’ll benefit from structure and a regular routine. If you have other dogs in the home, let’s talk more about how Kev can best integrate with your crew. He is unaware of dog social cues and his play style (combined with his size) can be a bit much for some dogs! Kev is available on a foster-to-adopt basis so we can support you during the transition to your home. Story
Poppy is an adorable young pup who came into rescue with an injured leg. We didn’t know the extent of the injury – would she need surgery? Would she possibly lose the leg? Would the leg recover? Poppy had a consultation with the orthopedic surgeon, and the outlook is good! It’s the type of injury that might heal without surgery, so the plan is 6 weeks of strict rest, and then reassess. If things are on track, no surgery. If the leg is not healing properly, then we’ll move forward with surgery, which is estimated at $8,500 to $9,900, and 10 weeks of cage rest. We’ll know in early October if Poppy will need surgery. Keep your fingers and paws crossed for Poppy! Cooper is a cute dude who is calm and fond of people and kids. His favorite things are car rides, ball-chasing, playing in the water, long walks, running around being silly, and hanging out with his people! More scoop: Cooper is housetrained and crate-trained. He knows sit, lay, stay, come, and will leave a treat on the floor until told he can have it! He may have been a hunting dog as he is very interested in birds and chickens. Cooper settles quickly and rarely barks. Story
Meet Stuart! This social, sweet-natured pup is a bundle of energy and charm. He’s friendly with both dogs and people, and he loves to greet everyone with enthusiasm (and a hopeful request for belly rubs). Stuart is still very much a puppy, which means he’s got a lot of learning and growing to do—but he’s making great strides! He’s working on his manners, including housetraining, crate training, and walking nicely on a leash. He already knows “sit” and his name, and he’s learning cues like “down,” “leave it,” and “come.” Stuart’s sharp little teeth have caused a few nicks in the past, but with consistent training, his mouthy tendencies are improving every day. True to his playful nature, Stuart loves squeaky toys (especially his fuzzy stuffed squirrel), bones, and running after the flirt pole. He’s happiest when he’s on the go, so he’ll thrive in an active home where he can get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. He’d also love a playful canine sibling to romp around with! Stuart is a quiet guy who only barks when he’s really trying to tell you something. He’s curious but cautious about new things like vacuums or leaf blowers—he just stops to take it all in, then moves on. If you’re ready for a smart, energetic companion who loves car rides, long walks, and all things fun, Stuart might just be your new best friend! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Stuart’s been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Emmett: Your Goofy, Lovable Best Friend in the Making! If sweet and silly is your kind of vibe, Emmett might just be your dream dog! This lovable goofball is a 1-in-a-million mix of playful energy and laid-back chill. He’s happiest romping around the yard with his foster brothers (two GSPs he gets along with like a champ) or cuddling up close—so close, in fact, that he might “accidentally” bump into you while you’re moving around the house. He hasn’t mastered personal space yet, but we think it just means he really loves being by your side! What Makes Emmett Awesome: Social Superstar: Emmett adores doggy friends and thrives with a canine squad. Whether wrestling, playing tug-of-war, or just lounging together, he’s a team player.Trainable Goof: In just one week, he learned to sit and wait for his food—a sign that his food motivation makes him a training pro. He already knows “sit,” “shake,” and “come,” and he’s ready to keep learning!Easygoing Homebody: While Emmett loves outdoor adventures like yard zoomies and bird-watching, he’s also content to lounge around and relax by your feet while you work. Things to Know About Emmett: Manners in Progress: He’s working on greeting people without jumping (he’s just SO excited to meet everyone!) and learning to steer clear of household items left lying around—so far, only one guitar tuner has met its end.Food Enthusiast: Mealtime is his favorite time of day, and he’s learning to respect his foster siblings’ bowls. Feeding him separately works great while he learns.Best Fit: Emmett’s love for closeness and his goofy clumsiness might make him a better match for families without toddlers or elderly individuals who could be accidentally tripped. A home with another dog (or two!) and folks who are around often would be his dream! The Essentials: House-trained? &#226&#156&#133 No accidents, even overnight.Crate-trained? &#226&#156&#133 Sleeps soundly all night (especially if you bribe him with a Greenie!).Leash Manners? &#226&#156&#133 Pretty good.Exercise Needs? &#226&#156&#133 Daily yard play and wrestling with other dogs keep him happy, though he’d love hikes or runs too.Emmett’s foster family says, “Everyone who meets him falls in love.” If you’re ready for a cuddly, goofy, and trainable best friend, Emmett is ready for you! Could you be his forever family? &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143   Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Emmett's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.December 1, 2024, 10:19 pm
