Story
Hello friends, I'm Nova! I'm a 8-month-old, neutered male, German Shorthair Pointer/German Shepherd mix and I currently weigh 58 lbs. I am expected to grow to be about 75-90lbs when I'm an adult. I'm a sweet young fellow with a ton of energy who loves getting attention and affection when I'm not playing fetch with my favorite toys! Because I'm a working-type dog with a super amazing nose; I keep my nose to the ground, sniffing my next adventure. I would like to go home with a family who is experienced with my breed. I'd be perfect for a family with dog savvy kids 10+. If you have any resident dogs, I'd love to meet the whole family before I move in. I'm ready for lots of adventures, training, and most of all, love! Nova ID#A0988989 I recently spent time with a PHS Volunteer! Here's how I did: What a happy sweet boy. He is pretty good with commands. We played fetch today by alternating tennis balls. That gets him tired quickly. Nova knew how to drop it each time. He can jump real high and is a strong puller but he loves spending time with his people. Unless otherwise indicated, adoptable animals are located at our Lantos Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA 94010.  You may call us at 650-340-7022 to schedule an appointment, or just drop by. Drop-In hours for Same Day Adoptions are 11 am – 5 pm, 7 days a week (closed major holidays). We do our best to update our listings regularly, but we can’t guarantee every animal you see is still available. It’s also typical for us to have animals who haven’t had their photos taken yet, so you are welcome to visit our adoption center and have a look around! To check on an animal's adoption status, please call 650-340-7022 during normal business hours to speak with an adoption counselor. Emails will be returned as soon as possible, but please allow up to 48 hours during busy adoption periods like weekends.August 26, 2026, 10:20 pm

Story
Yolanda is a dream girl. She is super people friendly and will make an exceptional family pet, the kind dog you want kids to grow up with. She's fun and loves to run and play. We think Yolanda will be a great frisbee dog as she can jump and fly through the air. She is an amazing dog to watch. Good with other dogs but still needs a cat test. Yolanda is sleek and graceful, shiny black coat with telltale German Shorthair Pointer spots on her dainty feet. If Yolanda were reinvented as a person, she would definitely be a ballerina. Story
Blackjack: ~2 Years old male German Shorthaired Pointer/German Shepherd Mix 75 pounds Neutered Background: This young dog was found roaming the streets of Fairfield in early 2024. The finder notified the local animal control and made "found dog" postings but no one came to claim him. The finder decided to hold onto him during his stray hold period and contacted us for help finding him a new home. We shifted Blackjack to a Lab Rescue foster home in mid-2024. What Blackjack's Foster Says: Blackjack is a handsome ~2-year-old Lab-looking German Shepherd/German Shorthaired Pointer mix who’s 75 pounds of energy, affection, and fun. He may not be a Labrador Retriever, but Blackjack is one-of-a-kind! This resilient, affectionate, and fun-loving boy has all the makings of a devoted family member and is ready to be your next adventure buddy. With a little time and patience, Blackjack will reward you with endless love and companionship. Outdoor Adventurer: Blackjack loves to run, play, and explore. Whether it’s chasing squirrels, splashing in the kiddie pool, fetching rocks, or enjoying the fresh air, he’s happiest with plenty of room to stretch his legs. Big Personality: Equal parts goofy and sweet, Blackjack will keep you laughing with his antics and melt your heart with his loyalty. Morning belly rubs are his favorite way to start the day! Adventurer in Training: He is eager to go on walks, though he’s still refining his leash manners. With slow introductions, Blackjack enjoys meeting new people and dogs. Trips to Home Depot are a favorite—he loves exploring new sights and smells! Smart and Eager to Learn: This bright boy responds well to structure and consistency. He’s ready to shine with a committed owner who will guide him. What Blackjack's Rescue Rep Says: Blackjack is searching for an experienced dog owner who can offer him a loving home with the structure, patience, and training he needs to thrive. He’d do well in a suburban or rural setting with plenty of space to run, where he can fully enjoy outdoor adventures and live his best life. He’d also thrive with another dog or kids to play with, but he’s not a fit for first-time dog owners, a home with cats, or urban living. Despite his rough start, Blackjack has blossomed into a loving, loyal dog with so much to offer. He’s smart, eager to learn, and ready to be the heart of your home. If you’re ready to welcome an affectionate, energetic, and loyal companion into your life, Blackjack is waiting to meet you. If you think this amazing dog might be the one for you, reach out to learn more about him and arrange a meeting. Blackjack can’t wait to find his forever family! Medical: In great health. Current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered. Located In: Placerville (totally worth the drive) If you want to adopt Blackjack, please contact Rescue Rep Dave at david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net.

Story
Meet Pica! This 1½-year-old, 41 lb German Shorthaired Pointer girl is a sweet, gentle soul ready to explore the world with her forever family. Pica is at that nice stage of life—past the tiny puppy phase, but with all the goofy, curious puppy enthusiasm intact. Since the big wide world is still pretty new to her, every day brings discoveries. Pica is a tender-hearted girl who loves going for car rides, chewing on Nylabones, and squeaking her favorite stuffed duck. Her absolute favorite pastimes are strolling around the yard, sniffing through the orchard, and taking in all the sights (including watching horses across the road with great interest). Here is a quick snapshot of life with Pica: Personality & TemperamentSweet & Gentle: Pica has a truly loving, mild temperament. She can be a little hesitant when meeting new people at first, but once she takes a moment to warm up, she is ready to interact. Puppy Energy: She’s full of young-dog playfulness and curiosity! Home Manners & TrainingHousetrained & Crate Trained: Pica is housetrained. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night and handles short daytime crate breaks like a champ. Learning the Ropes: Since she hasn’t had a ton of life experience yet, Pica is learning just about everything from scratch. She is currently working on basic cues like Sit, Come, Off, Load Up, and Crate. Leash Manners: She gets super excited on walks. If she spots something new—like a squirrel—her puppy enthusiasm takes over, and she’ll pull quickly, so she’ll benefit from a steady hand and continued leash training. Ideal Home PlacementHomebodies Preferred: Pica has a high-pitched, persistent bark when left alone, as she prefers to be where the action is. She will do best in a home where her humans are around most of the day or work from home. Buddy System: She is currently doing well with slow, steady introductions to other dogs and would likely thrive with another calm dog in the home. Pica is a total gem of a GSP who just needs a patient, loving home to guide her, teach her doggy manners, and build her confidence. If you’re ready to give this sweet girl the world, Pica is ready to meet you! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Pica's been up to, check out her posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Ace! At 10 1/2 years young and 65 pounds, Ace is proof that age is just a number. This handsome boy is sweet, polite, friendly, and already knows how to be a great housemate. He’s fully housetrained, has good manners around the house, and is happiest when he’s spending time with his people. Ace enjoys a simple life filled with walks, exploring the yard, carrying around his favorite stuffed toys, and keeping an eye out for squirrels and other backyard critters. He especially loves car rides and is always ready to join you for an adventure. When treats are involved, Ace can even show off his impressive skill of catching them right out of the air. He’s a smart dog who knows cues such as “come,” “sit,” “wait,” and “get on.” On leash, Ace is easy to walk and enjoys getting out for daily exercise, though he wouldn’t mind a few extra opportunities to stretch his legs and strengthen his hind end. Ace gets along well with other dogs and has a friendly, easygoing personality with the people he meets. While his foster family hasn’t had the opportunity to see him around young children, he would likely do well with respectful kids ages 6 and up. Because he’s a larger dog who can be enthusiastic when seeing wildlife and critters on walks, a home without frail seniors or very small children would be the best fit. What Ace wants most is companionship. He forms strong bonds with his people and prefers not to spend long periods alone. He’ll thrive in a home where someone is home much of the time, works remotely, or enjoys bringing their dog along for daily activities. When left by himself, Ace can become anxious and vocal, so he’ll do best with adopters who understand his desire to stay close to his favorite humans. Ace also has a few medical needs that his future family should be aware of. He has mast cell tumors on his right shoulder and left wrist that are being managed under veterinary guidance. He takes daily medications and supplements to help keep him comfortable and feeling his best. His adoption will include 6 months of the medications and supplements. Despite these challenges, Ace approaches life with a happy spirit and a wagging tail. He’s settled nicely into foster care, loves being part of the household, and is ready to find a family that will appreciate the loyal, affectionate companion he is. If you’re looking for a devoted best friend who will happily accompany you on car rides, neighborhood walks, and quiet evenings at home, Ace may be the perfect match. Story
Meet Bogey! This 43 lb German Shorthaired Pointer is pretty much guaranteed to steal your heart the second you meet him. True to his breed, he’s athletic and fun, but he comes with a surprisingly mild, gentle, and sweet temperament that makes him an absolute dream to be around. Bogey is the ultimate Velcro dog whose favorite activity in the world is curling up right in your lap for a good nap. He is eager to please, settles into new environments effortlessly, and gets along fantastically with pretty much everyone—kids of all ages, the elderly, big dogs, and little dogs under 20 lbs (but not cats!). Best of all? He’s a total gentleman who doesn’t jump up on people. Here’s a quick snapshot of life with Bogey: Personality & Temperament: Exceptionally loving, calm, and sweet. He’s a gentle soul who just wants to be part of the family. Exercise Routine: High-energy when it’s fun time! He stays happy and healthy with about an hour or two at the dog park most days a week. House Rules & Manners: Fully housetrained! He has fair leash manners, knows Sit and Stay, and handles being left alone for 1–2 hours like a champ (he loves having access to a dog door so he can pop outside) when he has other dogs for company. He does not care for the crate, but he’s content being free-roaming in the home. Couch snuggles are his absolute favorite. Car Rides & Play: He loves car rides! When it comes to toys, soft plushies are his jam—though he considers it his personal mission to surgically remove the stuffing. Good Habits: Zero digging, zero fence jumping, and zero destructive chewing (plush toys aside!). He only does a quick, polite alert bark at night if he hears something unusual. Things to keep in mind: You will fall head-over-heels in love with him. Also, at 43 lbs, he may counter surf if delicious things are left within reach—so you’ll just want to keep food pushed back! Bogey is a truly exceptional GSP who would thrive in almost any loving home that has kids, small or large dogs, or active family members who are mostly home. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who balances dog park fun with epic lap-snuggling, Bogey is ready to meet you! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Bogey's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.
