Grits and determination!! That is the saying, right? To get anywhere you must have grits and determination?? Grits are good for you, ask any Southern mama :) You guessed it, my name is Grits and I have a LOT of determination! I came from the pound with HORRIFIC injuries related to a multiple dog attack :( And boy I was in pain and had horrible infections and was so so skinny and just sad... But the rescue peeps fixed me up! It took several weeks of LOVE, good nutrition, wound care and "heart repair" to return my zest for life and to see the glimmer of hope in my eyes... Now I am all fixed up, healthy and happy and READY for you!! Don't ever let me be out on the streets again, fighting off other dogs to live. Give me your COUCH, an air conditioner and lots of love and treats and I will be yours FUREVER!!! And speaking of fur, well, you know I am a Great Pyrenees and we SHED great amounts, so you must love me more than my hair!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area, $50 temporary fuel fee will be included)

Story
So the rescue people named me Rascal, which is really not an accurate description of me!! I am SERIOUS :) I am not rascally, I am a pup but I am a good pup! I don't want to cause any drama in my new furever home, I PROMISE :) I have lived on the streets and I know that I don't ever want to be there again! I get my food/water/love/hope and plenty of fun in my rescue but I long for the same from a forever family. I don't think it is too much to ask, I mean look at my face my sweet and innocent face. It will show you that I am a wonderful boy whose "rascally" ways are far FAR behind me!! I am great with everyone, so hurry up and adopt me! Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Elmer, like the glue, you ask?? WELL MAYBE!!! I am a GREAT Great Pyrenees boy who had a rough looking life before I was saved in the rain, with big wounds on my face and front chest and legs :( Looked to the rescuers like I had been in a fight... So here I am, LIVING THE HIGH LIFE!!!! I am in a foster home with AIR CONDITIONING!!! And my foster momma and her momma love on me and keep me fed and happy :) I, of course, had heartworms when I was found. HOWEVER, those pesky worms are currently dying off and I am feeling better every day without those parasites!!! I am a couch surfer, have you ever tried to surf a couch?? NOT EASY but here I am, killing it!! (not the couch, the surfing life :) I am a big boy, about 95-100# when full grown- but GENTLE GIANT thoroughly describes me. I am easy going and happy and loving. As a late in life neutered male, I like the female dogs better than other males, unless they are submissive. And I am crate/house/everything trained already so you don't have to worry about that! ADOPT ME, I have SO MANY redeeming qualities... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Chili is 4yo, weighs 98lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Chili knows 'sit', 'come', 'stay', and 'paw'; she loves car rides but dislikes vacuums; Chili is with her family inside the home during the day and sleeps in her crate at nighttime in home as well.  Chili's guardian adds:  "We love her so much and this was a very difficult decision for my family - she deserves the world.  She is very low maintenance with the exception of her fur - She is a heavy shedding breed, but with a few brushes a week, it keeps it down drastically!  It's Chili glitter:).  With daily brushing, it is barely noticeable.  Chili loves being outside within a fenced yard - she LOVES chasing birds and is convinced she can catch them, lol.  Sometimes she will just lay and soak up the sun for hours before coming back inside." Chili's guardian explains why he has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  "We have had Chili since 8 weeks old, but due to recent health issues, as well as my grandmother I care for, I am looking for a family that has the time Chili deserves to continue loving her." Chili's guardian offers a brief a medical history:  Chili had ear infections during puppyhood and once in adulthood, which were resolved. Chili's guardian states the following regarding children:  Chili lives with children, currently ages 8 and 13, so her guardian recommends her living with children, stating "Friendly, excited at first then lays down.  Tolerates play and petting. Chili's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Although Chili has lived with a dog, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating... "When properly introduced, Chili is great!  I use the sit command as dogs pass and she is fine. I will say if the other dog barks or lunges FIRST Chili immediately responds and will bark, snap and lunge.  She does not have a lot of experience with new dogs as we did not have the opportunity to fully socialize her.  I do not suggest she be in a home with other dogs just because she has only been comfortable with the dogs she is used to within our extended family (that come over to visit).  I would prefer she be in a one-dog household only because I can't confidently vouch for how she would react living with an unfamiliar dog."      Chili's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Chili lives with cats, so her guardian recommends her living with cats, stating "Chili loves our cats (can't say they love her back, but they do tolerate her).  She sniffs and ignores them". Chili's guardian describes her as: Couch potato Barks alot Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Always at your side Indoor dog House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Chili's guardian describes her ideal future home:  "Chili would do great with a single person, couple or family as the only resident dog.  She loves affection and interaction.  She truly thrives being a part of her home and it's daily activities." Story
Josie, JLo, JoJo and Bubba are 4 very lucky puppies. These puppies were found with their mom and 1 other sibling on a back country road in a very rural town. They were starving, covered in fleas and ticks, dehydrated and had been out in that area for goodness knows how long. When a good Samaritan saw them, she did her best to get all 5 pups and mom, but only 4 pups came to her. The volunteer has since gone out every day after to check, and it seems like mom and the 5th pup have disappeared despite leaving food and water out for them ☹ The 4 the volunteer was able to pick up are all thriving. They are loving being inside animals and getting to run around in a yard, having access to food, water, shelter, and lots of love. Mom appeared to be a beautiful white lab/pyreneese/dogo/pointer mix that weighed approximately 60 lbs. The volunteer did not see a dad, so we are unsure of that breed. We think they could weigh between 55-75 lbs once full grown, depending. Josie, Jlo and Bubba have an extra toe on their back feet, which leads us to believe they are great pyreneese mix. Bubba has golden spotted specks on the bottom of his ears and JLo has black spots which also could be signs of pointer. We estimate they are around 3-3.5 months (approximately born around March 26, 2024) All 4 pups have their own quirks – They all are very sweet pups with a lot of personality. They all love the water and would make wonderful companions to go to lakes, oceans, rivers or just have a pool in the backyard to play in. They are all kenneled at night and are doing wonderful not using the restroom during the night. They get free roam of the house from 530am-10am and then 530pm-11pm. They are kenneled during the day and also do wonderful during that time not having accidents. The foster does have cats but her cats are not friendly and do not like dogs, so they haven't been that nice to the puppies. The foster does think if with dog friendly cat(s), they would do great with time and training. The foster wrote this about the puppies: Bubba – loves being outside. He is more shy than the others and kind of hangs back to himself, while the others play and run around. He is more of a watcher. He likes more quiet time and relaxing. Very food motivated. Gentle and kind natured. Loves other dogs and when he is around his siblings or personal dogs, will play like crazy. Lacks confidence so another dog in the home or somebody who is home more often and can help with confidence is a must. Bubba is an old, sweet soul. With some training, he will be a loyal best friend. Josie – Josie does have an impairment in one of her eyes. She does have reflexes in it and does have minimal vision. She is not in pain, and we believe she was born with this or an injury she suffered early on. Because she can partially see out of it, the vet does not believe she needs surgery to remove it. It does not stop Josie from being her awesome self. She acts like a tough girl, but she is very much a follower, not a leader. She does stand up for herself when her siblings pick on her. Loves attention from my older dogs because they don’t pick on her. Likes digging holes to lay in and cool down since its been so hot. Would be over the moon to have a toy chest and she is obsessed with toys and playing with them. She can easily entertain herself. She is a bit shy but likes attention from humans and other dogs. She loves playing with other dogs and being around them, another one in the household would benefit her. She also likes to talk to you when she wants something, whether it’s dinner or to let you know she wants you to throw the ball. Jlo – One of the most social, outgoing and fun ones of the bunch. Super sweet and gentle. She thrives to please her humans and she is obsessed with getting lots of attention and love from her humans. She is playful with or without dogs around and is very entertaining. Her favorite spot to sleep is under the bed. If she can, she will climb on whatever she is able to. She loves to watch everything from a taller height. Jlo is the smartest one of the bunch and is a quick learner. JoJo – More of a leader than a follower. She is the first to try things and the first one to run up to you when they see you coming. She is as obsessed with human attention as JLo is, if not more. She loves to please her humans. Very adventurous – would do best in a home that likes to take their dog out to play often and go on adventures and explore. Very curious girl. Loves to play with her humans and other dogs. Gets along with all dogs. She will whine when you’re sitting there and not petting her to try and get your attention. Also, very smart and a quick learner. Would make a loyal companion. TO APPLY TO ADOPT: Please fill out an application on our website to adopt: www.ruraltank.org/adopt Most of our animals are located in Texas unless otherwise specified at the top of their bio. They are available for transport once adopted – There are different companies we use, all are USDA licensed. We have transport companies that can go directly to your door (this option costs slightly more, but it’s a smaller transport and more one on one care). This company can go as far as the Canadian border along the east coast. We use larger companies who are just as fantastic, this transport is included in the adoption fee, but they meet at general stops along the route, depending on where adopters are located for that specific transport. Most transports have stops in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Transports leave every 1-3 weeks, depending. We were impounded at a local shelter and they were so full they were going to have to kill us to make more room :( This is a very typical situation in Texas, TOO MANY BABIES BEING BORN.... However, as we said, we are the LUCKY ONES! Another local rescue said, "we can help, even though we are full to the brim" and JUST LIKE THAT- REAL LIFE!! We are in a wonderful foster home will be spayed shortly and ready to find our LUCKY FAMILIES!! If you want to be one of our families, please apply to adopt! Hurry, we are super cute and won't be waiting for love long!! Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $500 (includes transport to your area, $50 temporary fuel fee will be included)
We'll also keep you updated on Aphrodite JuM's adoption status with email updates.
