Our 6 year old dog, Burrito, is an incredibly sweet dog. When we rescued him we thought he was a Great Pyrenees/lab mix however with genetic testing (and after gaining a lot of weight with proper nutrition) learned he was a purebred. He has a lot of guarding behavior which is part of the breed, so we have been working with a trainer. While he has improved in many areas of his behavior, he continues to guard his food and be incredibly protective of our home and the people he loves. We have had some problems with guests who he views as threats and gets aggressive although has not bit anyone and we typically use space to help. However, he recently became aggressive towards our daughter when she was wearing a costume and he did not recognize her. While he did not bite her, it was very traumatic for her and are concerned about the kids safety. We care about Burrito so much and think he would do well in the right environment such as more rural location (where his breed is best suited for).

This adorable Great Pyrenees mix girl was born in early June and, despite being just a few months old, she has already developed quite the personality. Maxine is playful, curious, smart, affectionate, and just a tiny bit opinionated — in the most entertaining puppy way possible!Maxine and her sister were discovered wandering onto a family’s property in the Indiana countryside. Rather than sending these little girls into an already overcrowded shelter, Critter Cavalry Rescue stepped in and gave them a safe place to grow and flourish. And Maxine has wasted no time showing everyone what a special puppy she is.She is a confident little girl who loves to explore and be involved in whatever is happening around her. She has a playful streak and isn't afraid to let her foster siblings know when she is ready for some fun, but she is also respectful of the Poodle mix girls she lives with. She has happily settled into life as the youngster of the household, bringing plenty of puppy energy and entertainment to her more independent foster sisters.Maxine is also proving to be a very good student. She is being crate trained, learning to walk on a leash, and is already sleeping through the night. With consistent guidance, she is picking up new things quickly. Good food, proper care, deworming, and lots of love have helped her grow stronger and more confident every day.And then there is that fluff!Maxine has the unmistakable beginnings of the gorgeous Great Pyrenees coat, along with the chunky little puppy body that makes you want to scoop her up and cuddle her. We believe she may grow to around 70 pounds, so her adopter should be prepared for this tiny fluffball to eventually become a beautiful, impressive big girl.But Maxine isn't just cute. She is a puppy who genuinely loves her people. She loves food, she loves playtime, she loves affection, and she especially loves snuggling up with her foster family after a busy day of puppy adventures. She has a wonderful way of turning all the care she receives into kisses, cuddles, and goofy little antics that keep everyone smiling.We can already picture Maxine growing into the kind of dog who will be a loyal family companion — the big fluffy girl who follows her people around, supervises everything going on in the house, and then happily stretches out beside you when the day's adventures are over.She is still a baby, and she will need a family committed to continuing her training, socialization, and guidance as she grows. Story
Meet Bones!  Some dogs just need someone willing to see the world a little differently. Bones is one of those dogs. At just over a year old and around 80 pounds, Bones is a gorgeous Great Pyrenees/Heeler mix with a big heart, a joyful spirit, and a smile that lights up a room. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, on heartworm prevention, and ready to find the family he's been waiting for. Bones is deaf, but don't let that fool you—he is incredibly smart and highly trainable. He already knows hand signals for 'come' and 'sit' and has shown just how capable he is of learning. He loves people, thrives on interaction, and wakes up every day excited for whatever adventure comes next. Raised by an experienced rescuer, Bones has lived around multiple dogs and has zero history of aggression toward other dogs. He loves canine companionship and enjoys playtime with dogs of various sizes. Because he is a big, enthusiastic boy who doesn't always realize his own size and strength, very tiny or fragile dogs may not be the best fit simply because his play style can be exuberant. Bones has spent much of his life outdoors but is also comfortable spending time indoors when supervised. He adapts well and enjoys being part of the family. Because Bones is deaf, he cannot hear growls, hisses, or other warning signals from animals around him. Unfortunately, there have been incidents involving cats, and he should not be placed in a home with cats or other small animals. This is not a reflection of aggression, but it does mean he needs a home where everyone can be kept safe.  The decision to rehome Bones was made with tremendous love and care. He is not a problem dog. He is a special dog who deserves a home that understands his unique needs and appreciates everything that makes him wonderful. Born to a Great Pyr momma and an Australian Shepherd mix dad, this boy called Benny is going to be one of the treasure of a lifetime in a family companion.   At just 6 months of age and 47 pounds, Benny is a sweet and engaging big puppy who wants nothing more than to receive pets on the head and hear words of love and affirmation coming from his favorite humans.  He is wonderfully easy going and lays around just observing the new world that his young self is now experiencing.  The first year of life is always an important one and he is embracing all new things with confidence and curiosity.  The ultimate size of this boy will only be about 65-70 pounds since he is not carrying 100% of the Great Pyr genetics.  He is more the temperament of the Great Pyr with his lower key energy and observing skills to watch and then act on what he just observed.  He is a thinker and a lover for sure.   If you are interested in making this handsome boy your very own sidekick in life then write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com ASAP  Tell us where you live.  We have him fostered in our home base of Tennessee but we do transport to the northeast regularly on the weekends.   Meet Lady Anne, a stunning 4-year-old Great Pyrenees whose story is one of resilience, devotion, and unconditional love.   When it came time to give birth, Lady Anne did what any devoted mother would do—she searched for a place she believed would keep her babies safe. She chose a quiet spot beneath a shed, only for that refuge to become anything but safe. Thankfully, a compassionate neighbor recognized the danger and reached out for help. Critter Cavalry stepped in just in time, giving Lady Anne and her nine newborn puppies the second chance they so desperately needed.   Placed with an experienced foster family, Lady Anne slowly learned that she and her puppies were finally safe. At first, she was understandably protective, but with patience and kindness she allowed her foster family to help her. Beneath her thick coat were painful mats, ticks, and fleas, and she needed a gentle grooming and a trimmed belly so her puppies could nurse comfortably. Through it all, her only concern was her babies.   For seven weeks, Lady Anne rarely left their side. As the puppies grew, she would ask to step out of their pen, only to lie beside the fence, faithfully watching over them. Day and night, she stood guard, making sure every puppy was safe. Even after they were weaned, she continued her watch. It wasn't until each puppy had gone to a loving home and the pen stood empty that Lady Anne finally walked into the air-conditioned house, curled up, and truly rested.   Her watch was finally over.   But Great Pyrenees are born with a purpose, and Lady Anne simply found a new one. She now happily patrols the fence lines, checking on the livestock with quiet confidence before making her rounds to visit the very dogs she once chased away from her puppies. Today, they're all friends.   Lady Anne can be a little reserved when meeting new people, taking her time to decide who she can trust. Once she knows your intentions are kind, however, she gives you her whole heart. She'll greet you with joyful full-body wiggles, lean into your affection, and 'talk' to you in her soft, gentle Pyrenees whines that seem to say just how happy she is to be by your side. She is cat-friendly, easygoing, gentle, and deeply loyal—the kind of dog who doesn't just become a pet but a steadfast companion. Lady Anne has already proven what an incredible guardian she is.
