Meet Hazel ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Hazel is a spayed, 8 month old female Great Pyrenees/Shepherd mix, currently weighing around 60lbs. She is in a foster home in Houston, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. Looking for a goofy, sweet ball of floof? Then Hazel is your girl! This adorable puppy LOVES other dogs, toys and food. She is crate and potty trained and has done well around the older kids she’s met. Because she wants ALL of the toys, older kids may be a better fit in her new home. Hazel would love an active family to help her burn off her puppy energy and to help her with basic manners and training. She’ll entertain you with her antics and house parkour and will make sure dinner is always right on time! Please let us know if Hazel could be your new best friend and adventure buddy! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** We do not know Hazel’s exact breed but we suspect she will be a large dog once fully grown. Her best fit will be with a family that understands what it means to raise a big, active pup into a well-mannered adult. We’re looking for adopters who will provide her with regular socialization, positive training, and plenty of outlets for exercise, play, and enrichment. For puppies this age, someone needs to be home more than they are away as crating them for long periods of time is not conducive for their developmental needs. If you work outside of the home longer than 4 hours, please explain who will is available to spend time with this puppy while you are away. If that information is not included, we will not consider your application. Interested in applying to adopt her? What my friends at OHS say about me: My name is Qistibi, but my friends also call me Glacier! I've been spending the last few months in a foster home, and I've grown into a confident, playful, affectionate dog! It can take me a little time to get comfortable with new people, but once I see that I can trust you, I'll show you why all the staff and volunteers love me.I love cuddling, zooming around the backyard, looking out the window with my dog sister and eating tasty treats! Things I don't like include scary vacuums, lawn mowers and other loud noises.Despite my senior status, I am a pretty active guy! I love walks and will run and play in the yard. I might even like playing with a dog friend if they aren't too rowdy! I will need to meet any canine companions prior to getting adopted. To learn more about my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout. The type of home I'm looking for: I must go to a home with a fenced in yard and a low traffic neighborhood. Everyone living in the household will need to meet prior to my adoption.I will need to meet any resident dogs first before going home with you.To learn more about, my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout. My adoption process: OHS has created a more in-depth adoption questionnaire, which can be accessed via the "Meet Me" button at the top of the profile.Once it is reviewed, you will receive an email with a link to schedule a phone consultation. After your consult, if it feels like a good match, your adoption counselor will schedule an in-person meet and greet and you will meet me with our volunteer and staff handlers. If you fall in love, you will have the option to come in and spend time with me to build a relationship prior to adopting! What my friends at OHS say about me:I have been working with the Behavior team at OHS and I'm looking for a special home. It will take time and patience to get to know me. Click the "meet me" button to start the process and schedule an appointment. To learn more about my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout.I love to learn! You can use my favorite toys or treats as positive reinforcement and to teach me new things.Shy and Nervous: I can be worried about new people, new surroundings and touch. I prefer to take things at my own pace and will need to live in a calm environment.I may be shy at first, but once we get to know each other I will shower you with love!I am still learning how to walk on leash, especially in new environments that can be overwhelming. I need verbal encouragement, patience and of course treats from you to help me!I can't wait to show my new family how playful I am!I had so much fun meeting other dogs here in the shelter. My friends at OHS think I would be great at making new dog friends!I have chronic skin issues which will require long term management. It can be caused by different factors such as fleas, food or environmental factors. The type of home I'm looking for:I would flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.I may do best in a home where there is another dog to help boost my confidence and play with.

What my friends at OHS say about me:My foster mom said that I can be described best with a single word: gentle! I might start off shy, but once I get to know you, I'll greet you with happy wags and bump your hand for pets.Looking for a dog that's housetrained? I haven't had a single accident in my foster home!It will be important to spend a few weeks with me in a secure back yard before trying to introduce me to new places, people or things. I am at my best when I get a lot of support and do better with people I have built a trusting relationship with.Even in my senior years, I really like to romp and play with the other dogs in my foster home! I might enjoy having other pets in the home.I have some previous injuries to my hind leg that makes it a little harder to get around, but I'm still enjoying life and would love to be your companion around the home, in the yard and on short neighborhood walks! The type of home I require: I must go to a home with a fully fenced yard. No apartments or busy neighborhoods.Everyone living in the household will need to meet prior to my adoption.I will need to meet any resident dogs first before going home with you.To learn more about, my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout. Story
Holy heck, this dog is about as angelic as any one dog can get! Let me introduce you to Aspen, he is a young, mellow soul with built in “gentle-giant” energy. I would be hard pressed to find something negative to say about him. Aspen has been so fortunate and is living in a loving foster home while he waits for his adoption day. His foster home includes young children, a wide variety of dogs, cats, and even a chinchilla- all of which he gets along with gently and perfectly. He is just a gentle boy- equal parts playful and peaceful. easygoing, and good-natured. One of the cutest things he does is how he politely will ask for affection by placing his head in your lap and hitting you with those warm brown eyes like it’s the most natural thing in the world. Want to see Aspen the Daydream in action? Check out his YouTube, look into his puppy-dog eyes, watch him play, and soak up la few well-deserved belly rubs. https://youtu.be/EPzUIXhTqE0 Aspen is estimated to be around 8 months old, about 40 lbs, and we’re guessing he may be a Great Pyrenees mix (as always with rescue pups, we can’t guarantee breed or exact age). He is fostered in a loving home with kids, cats, other dogs, and even a chinchilla, and the consensus is simple- he is actually perfect! Aspen is a recent tripod but he truly doesn’t treat it like a big deal. He’s still healing (you’ll see that in his video), but he’s already running, playing, and bouncing back with that sweet puppy resilience. His amputation was necessary but he’s handling it all with a steady, sunny spirit. With dogs, he is a great companion and fun playmate. He meets new dogs calmly and it isnt long before he is inviting them to play and run with him. He would love a home with a playful but lower energy dog friend who would like to play but isn’t going for non-stop, marathon play sessions. Cats? Aspen is feline-friendly! We call his approach- respectfully cautious. When he met our house cat, he walked up to him calmly, did a quick smell & check in, then walked away, and when encouraged to get closer, he chose to go lay down. In other words he was saying“I’m just here to be peaceful- no rush.” Aspen could be a great fit in lots of homes, including a family home, and he seems like the kind of pup who’d be happy tagging along for outings and adventures as he continues building strength and confidence. For apartments, it may simply depend on the setup since he’s a tripod and still healing, but temperament-wise he’s the kind of dog that will make anywhere he is better and a whole love sweeter. If Aspen’s gentle way sounds like the energy your home needs, apply to adopt him today! A boy like him will not be available for long Adoption application: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/696e6d08c4e2e074cb037252 Questions?
