Story
Meet Axl Rose Diva!! Axl came to us back in 2023 and was adopted to a very sweet lady. Unfortunately, his owner passed Way and her sister reached out to us. Of course we happily took him back into our program.  Axl is a 15 lb, 11 yr old neutered Havanese Mix. He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, parasite free and recently had a dental.  His foster family had nothing but great things to say about him. He gets along great with other dogs and takes over the leader role at the neighborhood dog park. He’s easy to take care of and pretty chill most the time. He’s stand offish with being introduced to new people and situations. He’d be perfect fit someone with that understanding. He can be possessive at mealtime so we suggest separate feeding areas.  Axl loves car rides and like we said, he loves the dog park.   GENERAL INFO:   Housebroken?: Yes, we think so Crate Trained?: Unknown  Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: Unknown  Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: Yes Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5 Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.  Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.  Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.   We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.  We are on all social media at @umbrellaofhope and we invite you to follow us and share which helps more people see and adopt our pets.  To help our ALL VOLUNTEER team rescue more senior, special needs, medically needy and hospice animals (and a few 'typical' ones along the way, please consider making a tax-deductible (TAX ID 45-4103375) donation online at www.paypal.me/UOH or Venmo @umbrellaof-hoperescue or Zelle beourpet@gmail.com.   You can also buy tees, tanks. sweatshirts, hats and bandannas where all proceeds benefit our animals https://ruff-life-rescue-wear.myshopify.com/collections/umbrella-of-hope We also have an Etsy store where the merchandise is made by volunteers and supporters, changes regularly and 100% of the proceeds benefit our medical fund https://www.etsy.com/shop/Umbrellaofhope Amazon Wish List tinyurl.com/pineapplewish  April 8, 2026, 10:08 pm

Story
We rescued Gigi from a distant shelter. The shelter person told us that she was maybe about 4-5 yrs old and very friendly. Great with dog buddy in her kennel. One shelter staff person said she didn't notice all the medical needs that Gigi has. Gigi was neglected matted and very dirty with bad smell. Dog friendly. When she went to our vet he told us she is older and that she needed dental and had some gum inflammation has lump on belly (need to remove & biopsy) not spayed and has double cataracts (vet did eye dye tests). Blood and urine tests shows no diabetes which can cause cataracts. No issues seen in test results. She was so smelly that the vet office shaved her body and bathed her. We already spent over $1000 for her vet care and many tests. Problem… it will cost over $3000 plus for her dental X-ray spay removal of lump biopsy and $10K for cataract surgery if we opt for this surgery. Vet gave her eye drops. She has poor vision but sees light and large objects. She is getting around fine at her foster home and on walks. She can manage going up and down stairs. We plan to try another drop that dissolves cataract for $150. Seen good results with other dog owners. Then will see a vision vet. Gigi is great with foster home's dog. Very easy going and sweet. She loves her food and does rollies. Can go up and down stairs to 2nd floor and jump up on sofa and bed. Does fine on walks. Did great going to foster home's work studio with her and did great with everyone. Greeted people. Walked around and very well behaved. Gigi is such a good girl. We have spent over $1000 so far on first exam eye blood & urine tests shave down/bath medications and all her vet care. Her vet costs will be in the high thousands for dental spay lump removal and eye care. If we have to do cataract eye surgery it will cost us $8000 - $10000. We hope the healthy foods eye vitamins and drops work to avoid the surgery. Donations are greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you. 🥰 https://www.furryfriendsrescue.org/donations 3/14/26 Update from her foster home: Gigi is a really remarkable little girl. I’m surprised by her everyday! She’s able to get around quite easily on her own despite the occasional light booping against my leg or a wall. She listens for my footsteps and able to follow me around. She’s quiet and easy going. Friendly with other dogs and everyone we meet on the street. I’m amazed by how easily she’s adapted to San Francisco streets. Her poor eyesight doesn’t seem to be slowing her down. She’s trusting cuddly and just likes to be nearby. She’s also an easy eater and house trained. All my friends and neighbors who’ve met her think she’s the sweetest.YouTube: https://youtu.be/mQwFiUOiwdAApril 9, 2026, 12:41 am
