Story
Snickers is a can-do grandpa who stays young by doing what he loves: wagging, smiling, puttering, making friends, and modeling excellent manners for the youth. He might mutter Dag! or Son of a biscuit! if he stubs a toe, but that's as spicy as this handsome mop-top gets. He's agile and sturdy; a short walker who can take the stairs. One look at his sweet pompadour and you'll be in his furry thrall.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $800 Cuba is a 3 year old Havanese who was rescued from the shelter. He came in terribly matted with an overgrown coat so the shelter gave him a good haircut and promised they would find him a perfect place to land. Cuba weighs 20 pounds. This world traveler can’t wait to share his adventures with his new forever home! Cuba has a non-shedding coat which makes him an option for those with allergies or who just want less hair around the house.    Cuba is the world’s most outgoing, smiley guy who loves nature almost as much as he loves snuggling into his bed for naps! He loves meeting new people and showing off his cute face. Once he chooses you as his person, he will loyally follow you from room to room as you go about your day. Cuba is a cute bouncy ball of fur running around the house. He has a huge mountain of dog toys he carefully selects from every day. Cuba loves hiking and runs so an active home would be a fabulous fit for this dude!  Cuba’s day starts at 7 AM with a walk in the back garden before breakfast. He then gets a longer walk around 8:30 AM before a nap in his crate while his foster mom gets some work done. During the day, he enjoys some games of fetch and chase in the backyard which he loves. He gets a longer walk at 5 PM before dinner at 5 PM. He winds down with his foster family until bedtime at 9 PM when he heads to bed in his crate and sleeps the night away.  Cuba is a “one dog in the home” kind of pup. He gets along with other dogs once they have a calm intro, but he would prefer not to share the affection of his forever family. Cuba is getting better at his leash walking skills, but will need a home prepared to continue the training he has started in his foster home. We will be looking for a home who can demonstrate their plan for continued learning.    Cuba is only an option for those with prior dog experience. He is only an option for those who are prepared to continue his training and who have a plan for grooming. Kids in the home should be over the age of 12.April 26, 2024, 2:38 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $700   Holden Caulfield is a 2 year old Havanese mix who leapt straight off the page into our hearts! This boy was surrendered to the shelter after his former home had a change in circumstance and were no longer able to care for him. After some TLC in the form of a haircut and lots of snuggles, Holden clambered into the lap of his rescuer and gave her endless kisses and cuddles. Holden has a coat that will need grooming but he may not be an option for those with allergies.    Holden is a loving, friendly, playful, and all around best selling kind of guy! He adores his people, he loves his treats, and he is in love with life! He’s the kind of dog that just makes life better by being in it. Holden adores his toys and quickly showed off his fetch skills in his foster home (even though he’s still working on the bring it back part). Holden is smart as well and performs tricks on request as long as you have a treat on hand. This boy always has a smile on his face and a wag in his tail as he trots happily alongside his people. For those who love the Havanese breed, you will find that Holden is the absolute best representation of the breed you’ve ever seen. Once you meet Holden, you’ll forget what your life was like before he came into it.  Holden wakes up at 7 AM and heads outside to go potty and find his toy of the day. After he comes inside, he gets his breakfast which he gobbles up with a wagging tail. In the morning, Holden lounges around the house with his foster sibling and sniffs around outside. He taught himself how to play solo fetch, so he can easily keep himself occupied if his home works out of the house. In the afternoon, Holden gets a walk and some training time. He has dinner at 6 PM before he gets some playtime in the yard and some cuddles on the couch. After one last trip outside at night, Holden heads to bed to dream of adventures ahead!  Holden lives with another dog and absolutely adores his fellow canines. He would be a fabulous playmate for a resident dog or as a solo buddy for his new family. Holden is still working on his training skills but with his intelligence, we know he will win ‘Best in Class’ at any obedience school. Don’t delay bringing Holden home today!   Holden is only an option for homes who have owned a dog in the past, even if that experience is less recent. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.April 26, 2024, 2:38 am

Fairy was rescued from the shelter where she was left by her former home through no fault of her own. We promised this fantasy girl the best new life and her wings fluttered with delight as she made her prison break! Fairy has a lovely coat which will require regular grooming, but she isn’t an option for those with true allergies. Fairy promises to bring endless joy to her forever home!    Fairy is a cuddly, loving, smiley, and all-around perfect gal with pixie dust to boot! Fairy is the kind of gal who’s looking for her BFFFL in her forever people. She adores following her people around on all of life’s adventures, big or small. Fairy loves life and her wagging tail backs up that assessment. She loves playing with her toys and her entire body wiggles to show her excitement when the ball comes out for fetch. Fairy loves cuddling but also wants to explore the world, if you’ll come along for the ride or course! Fairy could be an amazing companion for an active day (hikes, parks, walks) followed by a movie night or a night on the town. She would be the perfect WFH coworker as well, even if her job is more “enjoyer of treat” then accountant pro. Fairy just radiates joy and love for those around her and it shows in how she makes any new person her forever pal.  Fairy starts her morning at 7 AM with a big stretch and some cuddles. At 8 AM, she gets a walk around the block where she greets her neighborhood pals. Breakfast is at 8:30 followed by a long snooze on her dog bed and playtime with her endless supply of soft toys. She gets a snack around 1 PM followed by another walk at 2 PM. Her afternoons are filled with sunning herself, napping, and encouraging her foster parents to play with her. At 6 PM, she gets a longer walk around the neighborhood, getting all her zoomies out before returning for a prompt 6:30 dinner appointment. After she eats, she relaxes for the remainder of the evening before going out for one last potty trip. Bedtime is at 9 PM and Fairy happily snuggles into her crate where she dreams of pixie dust and treats!  Fairy gets along with dogs and plays well with them. She walks well on the leash and prefers to stick close to her people. Fairy is fully house trained and crate trained. She’s a smart gal as well, so prepare for afternoons of trick learning (as long as you’ve got treats on hand). If you’re looking for your cuddly bestie, you’ve met your match in Fairy!   Fairy is an option for homes with prior dog experience even if that experience is less recent. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.April 26, 2024, 2:38 am

Story
This little gem is a medical special needs pup. Sasha is a very sweet and easy going 1-2 year old Bichon mix; she is about 11 pounds. She loves all people and dogs and enamors everyone she meets. She walks well on leash, sleeps through the night in her crate, and does relatively well with her alone time. She has an adorable way of getting one's attention and loves to play with other dogs. Unfortunately Sasha was most likely hit by a car at some point and her spine is broken in her lower back. She has full use of all her legs, but she's completely incontinent. Her foster assists her to empty her bladder 3-4 times per day (easy to do, and a potential adopter could be taught to do it). If she is assisted to empty her bladder, her diaper stays dry and her fur stays clean. Due to her condition, Sasha is prone to UTIs, but helping her to empty her bladder regularly decreases this potential. Luckily she doesn't show any signs of pain and has a full life expectancy. Sasha will need to live with someone who is home most of the time. She'd probably do best in a home with a yard, so she doesn't always have to be in a diaper, but she would also be an easy dog for an apartment dweller as she doesn't necessarily have to be walked first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Since Sasha is "non-shedding, she will need regular grooming. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Sasha is $200. If you are interested in adopting Sasha, please complete our online adoption application at  https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/   . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. We will consider applicants outside the 9-county San Francisco Bay Area for Sasha, as long as applicant is able to travel to Oakland for meet and greet, and pick up. April 25, 2024, 6:32 pm

Story
*Monday & Bonzai's adoption fee has been covered* These two are such adorable little boys! They are so in love with each other and they are the biggest cuddle monsters you've ever met. They love to snuggle and kiss, they play wrestle, and they love to be touched. They learned the house rules and simple commands very quickly and are well behaved. Monday can be a little sneaky ( we think he might be the brains of the operation) and Bonsai plays along!) It's really funny to watch. They LOVE their walks and are great on leash. They're unphased by crowds or other dogs. We've just adore these boys! The only reason that we are not adopting them is because we have a year of travel ahead of us, and it wouldn't be fair to them. These boys need a home where they will be loved, feel secure, played with, and where their little personalities can blossom. They are good left alone, but they are excellent car-riders and love outings. These two absolutely have to stay together, it would be devastating for them if they were separated. They do enjoy independent time from each other at home, but they are so in love and it's so sweet and special. We love these guys so much we would definitely be willing to pet sit for their new family if they ever needed it! Our only wish is for these beautiful, sensitive, smart, hilarious babies to find the most loving, most comfortable forever home possible!
