This handsome 1-2 year old, 18-pound Havanese mix arrived from the shelter wearing a seriously overgrown, matted coat that desperately needed some TLC. Thanks to a much-needed spa day, he's feeling lighter, happier, and ready to show off both his adorable face and his even more adorable personality. With his non-shedding coat, he'll need regular brushing and professional grooming to keep him looking and feeling his best. Your Loyal Little Shadow If you're looking for a dog who truly wants to be part of your everyday life, Detour is ready to clock in as your full-time companion. He's the definition of a velcro dog, happily following his people from room to room just to see what they're up to. Whether you're working at your computer, folding laundry, or relaxing on the couch, Detour is content to settle nearby where he can keep an eye on his favorite humans. He's affectionate without being demanding. When he'd like a few pets, he'll gently rest his face on your lap as if politely saying, 'Excuse me...I think it's cuddle time.' His favorite scratches are on his chest and neck, and if you stop too soon, he'll adorably guide your hand back where it belongs. His foster says he's one of the sweetest, most well-behaved dogs they've ever fostered. Easygoing From Day One Some dogs need days or even weeks to settle into a new home. Not Detour. He walked into his foster home like he'd always lived there, showing almost no stress or anxiety. Aside from one accident right after arriving, he's been reliably housetrained ever since. He quickly learned the household routine, happily eats his meals, sleeps quietly through the night in his crate, and lets his people know when he needs to head outside by scratching at the door. His daily schedule is wonderfully predictable. Early mornings begin with a walk, followed by breakfast, another stroll, and then relaxing nearby while his foster works. Throughout the day he enjoys several walks, meals, short play sessions, and plenty of quality time with his people before curling up in his crate for the night. Walks Are His Favorite Adventure Detour absolutely loves going for walks. Every outing is an exciting treasure hunt filled with interesting scents to investigate. He's an enthusiastic sniffer who likes to explore every smell along the way, so he does pull on leash much of the time. When there's nothing particularly exciting happening, though, he settles into a nice walking pace and even waits for his person if the leash becomes tight. He's expressive and curious, especially when he spots other dogs. Small and medium-sized dogs are instant friends in his eyes, and he'll happily whine in excitement hoping to say hello. Larger dogs can make him a little more vocal, but when he's had the chance to greet them appropriately, he's been gentle and friendly. He's also curious about wildlife and would happily investigate birds—or the neighborhood cat if given the chance! Playful...With an Off Switch Detour has mastered the perfect balance between playtime and relaxation. Most of the day, he's content to quietly lounge beside his people while they work or go about their day. Then suddenly, it's zoomie time! He'll grab his favorite squeaky toy, race around the house with pure joy, and entertain everyone with his happy little victory laps before settling down again. Food is also one of his great loves. Chicken, beef, treats—you name it. Training is sure to be fun with such a food-motivated student. A Social Butterfly People are Detour's favorite thing. He happily greets visitors, loves meeting new people on walks, and would gladly accept pets from every friendly stranger he encounters. He met young children during walks and politely hoped they'd stop to say hello, but when they didn't, he simply moved on without complaint. Because he enjoys canine company, he may also enjoy a friendly dog sibling, especially one his size who likes having a playmate. His Perfect Home Detour thrives on companionship. He enjoys being close to his people and prefers not to spend long stretches by himself. At bedtime he sleeps peacefully in a crate placed in his foster's bedroom, but if left alone in another room overnight, he'll let everyone know he'd much rather be near his family.
