Story
We LOVE Aurora, and we know you will, too! Aurora is just over 2 years old and is a loyal, goofy, and smart girl who has won all of our hearts with her endearing personality. Aurora is the epitome of a big dog who doesn't know her size, and she loves to try to convince you that she is actually a lap dog. She is a very affectionate girl, and she forms strong bonds with her people. Whoever adopts her will always have a happy pup to greet them when they come home. Aurora weighs about 70lbs and is fully grown. Aurora was raised in foster care after she came to us as a tiny baby with her sister. The puppies came into a local shelter as strays with the rest of their litter and their mom when they were only a few weeks old. Once the puppies were weaned, we welcomed Aurora and her sister into one of our foster homes. Aurora's sister was adopted as a puppy, but Aurora has stayed with us since she has some medical needs that needed to be addressed. She is now all ready for adoption and can't wait to find her fur-ever home! Aurora is one of those dogs who lights up the room with their fun energy. She is guaranteed to always know how to bring a smile to your face, either by doing something ridiculously funny or planting some kisses on your face. Despite being a husky mix, she is relatively mellow and is happy to spend most of the day chilling at home. She loves her walks, though, and is a great walker who doesn't pull and loves to check out her smells. Aurora can be unsure of new people, but is quick to warm up after taking a walk with a new person. Once she knows you're a friend, you will be her BFF for life! Aurora's foster family has spent lots of time on her training, so she has her basic training down and is a well-mannered girl around the home. Due to her size, she needs a family that has experience with large dogs. Aurora has been raised with small dogs and has done well making new dog friends after a slow introduction. She could do well living with other moderate/low-energy pups, or she would be more than happy to be your one and only. Aurora has been raised with dog-savvy cats. At times, she can be a tad annoying to them, so she would do best with confident dog-savvy cats that wouldn't be overwhelmed by her. Aurora has done well meeting livestock and chickens. She would thrive on a farm! Aurora needs an adult-only home. Aurora is house and crate trained. She is used to free roaming in the home when no one is home, but also does well in her crate for short periods during the day. She is used to sleeping in her crate or on a dog bed in the bedroom at night. Aurora needs a home with a yard and wouldn't be a good fit for apartment life. Aurora was diagnosed with liver shunts as a young puppy. Unfortunately, due to their location, surgical correction isn't an option. However, Aurora has been symptom-free since transitioning to a prescription diet, and her bloodwork shows that her condition is being properly managed with the diet change. She can ONLY eat her food and specific bland treats to avoid any GI and neurological side effects of food high in protein, fat, and sugar. Aurora is happy to eat her food and has no problem with pets and play as reinforcement for good behavior. She will require yearly bloodwork to monitor her condition. Aurora also has a minor heart condition. It requires no treatment at this time, but she will need yearly check-ups with a cardiologist to monitor it. Aurora is such an amazing girl, and we know a wonderful family is out there for her! If you think that might be you, submit an application today!   Aurora's adoption fee is $250.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website  (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org. January 23, 2026, 9:42 pm
