Story
Coal came to us as a stray (well, sort of). He was found on someone's property, and they wanted to keep him. We walked them through the legal process of a stray hold, and once the hold was up, they adopted him. Not long after his adoption, they surrendered him. They ony had him a few days so it is still difficult to rule in or out anything. We did our usual assessments. The only thing we noticed that wasn't what we label a green behavior was his intorduction to other dogs. He wants to be dominant and is very pushy about it. The dog he met with was also dominant, but was willing to give it up to keep the peace with Coal. He can be rude when meeting another dog but he is very respectful when the other dog gives a warning. We are requiring a meet-and-greet if there are other dogs in the home. ADOPTION FEE: LOCAL $100 NON-LOCAL $140 All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped. All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds. We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary. We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

Story
Boo is a tricky story. She was saved with her sister as a baby off a farm when they ran free from the start of life. At eight weeks old, we took her and her sister in. She was very timid, hence the name Boo, and appears to be the runt. She is afraid of a lot of things. She does not like being on a lead and paces in her kennel due to anxiety. She has started Prozac, but we were told it could take a month or so to take full effect. She likes to bury her head in your lap and receive pets. If you are patient and looking for a dog that will love you forever and be right beside you, Boo is your girl. She is an indoor dog and will always need to be outside on a lead, in a tall fence, or learn to be leashed. She is a special girl and well worth the effort. A much quieter environment will make a world of difference.

Story
Mabel is a super sweet pup who is likely Husky/German Shepherd/pitt mix. She found us on a dark and stormy night (literally!) in July 2024 and we weren’t able to find her family. She has since been microchipped, spayed, and is up to date on all vaccines (as of Sept 2025), and is heartworm negative. We don’t know how old she is but suspect 2-3 years. We have 2 other dogs. Mabel gets along GREAT with our black lab (male.) We also have a chihuahua (female.) Mabel and the chihuhua haven’t gotten along as well, but its difficult to know if its a dominance issue or if it’s because Mabel wants to play in the same style as she does with the lab. We have a preschool age daughter and Mabel has been gentle with her. Mabel does not do well with cats. Mabel and the lab are outdoor dogs at our house, so I don’t know if she is house trained. She is VERY smart and I’m confident she would pick up new things very quickly. We are moving and are so sad that we can’t take her with us.
