Story
Princesa has spent years being part of a family, and it shows in the way she connects with people. She is described as very sweet with both adults and children, and while the shelter environment has understandably made her a little unsure at first, she has already begun showing glimpses of the gentle dog underneath it all. Princesa has been quietly observing the world around her, offering soft lip licks and cautious curiosity as she adjusts to all the recent changes in her life. She also seems to have a little athletic streak hidden in there. Princesa has shown she can jump impressively high when excited or trying to explore, so her future family will want to make sure she has a safe, secure setup and plenty of opportunities for enrichment and companionship. Dogs like Princesa, who have spent much of their lives outdoors and bonded closely to their people, often blossom beautifully once they finally get the comfort and consistency of being fully included in a home. There is something especially rewarding about earning the trust of a dog who wants so badly to feel safe and loved again. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
***THIS ANIMAL IS STAYING IN A FOSTER HOME AND IS NOT CURRENTLY IN THE SHELTER***Coco is a joyful, high-energy sweetheart who approaches life with enthusiasm, playfulness, and a whole lot of love. This happy boy just wants to prance around, play, and be part of whatever his people are doing. He’s full of life and thrives on activity, attention, and companionship. Coco has a very high energy level and would do best in a home ready to keep him busy. He currently enjoys multiple play sessions a day—often 30 minutes to an hour at a time—and still has energy to spare. Playtime, exercise, and interactive fun are essential for him, and once he’s had a chance to burn off some energy, he’s more than happy to soak up affection and cuddle with his favorite humans. He absolutely loves people and sees everyone as a potential playmate. While he hasn’t yet been formally introduced to children or other pets, he shows strong interest in engaging and playing when he sees them. Coco is gentle with treats and allows handling around food, showing no signs of possessiveness. Coco is smart and eager to learn. With consistency, he’s already improving his manners and is getting very good at sitting politely while his leash is put on or taken off. He’s a quick learner who responds well to guidance and routine. He’s also getting accustomed to grooming, such as brushing. One thing to note is that Coco seems sensitive around his back right hip and does not like being touched there. This may indicate a previous injury or soreness, so continued observation and gentle handling around that area will be important. Affectionate and endearing, Coco doesn’t quite understand his size and truly believes he’s a lap dog. He’s the kind of dog who wants to play hard, love deeply, and cuddle even closer. With an active home, consistent training, and lots of love, Coco will make an incredibly fun, devoted companion. Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving with you. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.

Story
Sirius is one of those dogs whose sensitive side shows up before his goofy side does, but once he feels safe, the transformation is incredibly sweet to watch. He arrived overwhelmed and frightened, curling up into a tiny ball and unsure of the noisy shelter around him. With patience, treats, and gentle encouragement, though, Sirius has slowly started to show who he really is: an affectionate, attention-seeking boy who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. He has already mastered the art of climbing directly into laps for comfort, and honestly, it is hard not to fall for a dog who looks at humans like they are his emotional support system. According to his previous household, Sirius did well living with cats and even a rabbit, loves children, and enjoys having a cozy crate to retreat to when he needs to decompress. He can be anxious in new situations and may need time to settle into a new routine, but shelter staff have already seen major progress as his confidence grows. Outside of the kennel aisle, he relaxes, seeks out affection, and happily walks alongside people with soft tail wags. Sirius feels like the kind of dog who just needs someone willing to reassure him that the world is not so scary anymore, and in return, he will likely become a deeply loyal shadow and constant companion. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
Bosco is an incredibly sweet, affectionate boy whose favorite place in the world is right next to his person. He is extremely cuddly and thrives on physical closeness—when he’s able to touch or snuggle with someone, his energy settles into a calm, contented state. Without that connection, his energy can spike, not from aggression, but from excitement and a strong desire for attention. Bosco has shown no signs of aggression at all. He is friendly and social, with no clear preference between men or women, and greets people with enthusiasm and affection. While he hasn’t yet been exposed to children or other animals, his interactions with people have consistently been positive and loving. On leash, Bosco can become very excited when he sees other animals and may bark or jump, indicating that leash manners and impulse control will be important areas to continue working on. He is a hyper boy who will benefit from structure, consistency, and appropriate outlets for his energy. Bosco is athletic and surprisingly agile. He will require a secure yard with a minimum 6-foot solid fence, as he has demonstrated the ability to clear a 4-foot chain-link fence—even while on leash. Bosco is looking for a home that understands his need for companionship, physical affection, and guidance. With someone who can be present, provide structure, and meet his emotional and physical needs, Bosco will be an incredibly devoted, loving companion who just wants to be close and adored. This animal is staying in a foster home and is not at the shelter. Story
Meet Willa!!! Rescued from a local shelter Christmas of 2021 after a hoarding abandonment case of 27 plus fearful feral dogs left behind in a property. The home was condemned, disgusting filthy. A home in such condition, no animal or human should have to live in. Willa is believed to be at most 18 months, She and 3 others call the sanctuary home, temporarily, all are doing amazing with their rehab, learning what life as a loved pet should be. Willia is unsure and fears new people and change but with patience she surly warms up. She is independent some and still unsure if she wants human affection but will always take a treat, sit next to your feet, moves in for petting, willing to snuggle and even cuddle. Willa loves all the dogs,is good with cats and small critters too. Willa has a missing eye. She either was born without it or lost it to trauma. It makes no difference to her. She is no different than any other dog. A 100% secured fenced in yard is a must, A home with other pets is required. At least 1 other balance playful dog for her to follow/gravitate toward. Willa has an amazing personality she herself is still learning she has. She has a banshee screech that will knock your socks off and scare the hell out of you. But no worries its her excitement happy noise she makes when overly happy and or excited. Always best to approach her slow at first, lots of butt scratches, treats, soft voice and if you enjoying singing she enjoys being sung too. Willa needs a lot of confidence still, and that requires a lot of patience with no set time frame and expectations ever. Allow her to live life 1 day at a time. Willa walks amazing on leash, barks very little but barks, will make her presence known and will seek human interaction as she follow other dogs doing so. Willa is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, de-wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, neutered, and on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention. Story
Meet sweet little Mable. Mable is said to be a blend between beagle and Chow maybe a shepherd of a sort too. Mable is just under 2 years of age, 35 pounds dog, cat, and people-friendly. She can be somewhat timid meeting new people but she adjusts well and easily overcomes her shyness Mable was adopted out as a puppy from a southern Indiana shelter at 3/4 months old and lived until last December outdoors at the end of a chain of isolation. Surrendered to the same shelter where she was adopted from a year later. A plea for rescue was placed as they feared the isolated life at the end of a chain may have caused behavior deterioration. Mable has been spayed, vetted, tested for heartworm, lyme, and treated for parasites. As well as received 2 separate surgeries on both eyes 5 months apart due to severe cherry eyes and entropion eyelids both top and bottom. Mable is 35 ish pounds just under 2 years of age and such a beautiful sweet active playful pushy good-way personality. His eagerness to please happy go lucky still very much a puppy spirit is delightful. She enjoys toys and has never had any, she loves walks, enjoys car rides, and meeting new dogs and people too. Upon her arrival, we notice she was timid when meeting anyone new but easily overcame her shyness effortlessly. Little girl Mable is very social when it comes to other animals. She is happy-go-lucky playful welcoming and joyful with dogs, cats, and all critters we have exposed her to. Mable training is excellent. She has worked so hard and it shows. She walks perfectly on a leash, her recall is good but needs a little more work, and has her basic obedience on point. No jumping up or mouthing people either. She has worked hard and has come a long way. Especially for living such an isolated neglected lifestyle for most of her life. Mable is very food of all types, toys, and praise motivated. She just loves interacting with people and playing. She will make a great apartment dog too if her energy level is matched. Mable is the perfect dog. She's become the perfect dog. A home with another playful dog, daily simple walks, and access to a fence in the yard would be great. Mable is still very puppy and has a lot of exploring and catching up to do still. She is determined to make up for lost time. Mable is house and crate trained and her new people must be dedicated to continuing so, current to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto & corona, 1 or 3-year rabies,  dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped including free registration for life, spay/neutered, heartworm & lyme diseases tested negative upon adoption,  and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. We do NOT ship and meet and greet are required before adoption unless you are a previous adopter. Previous adopters of AHS have the first choice and are not expected to pay another adoption fee again.  Donation of their choice is welcomed. Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continued training is a must. Adoption process information can be found on our website www.animalhousesanctuary.org Adoption Fee of $325 covers all of the above and everyday needs/care.  Updated 7/1/2023
