Meet Crae! Crae was surrendered to Fetch by his owners where they moved out of the country and could not take him with them. The change has thrown him for a loop but he is adjusting well to foster care. With his trusted people he is a very sweet and clingy boy that loves kisses, hugs, belly rubs and having his chest scratched. His fosters describe him as affectionate, snuggly, sweet, calm, gentle, and loving. Crae loves being outdoors either going for walks or exploring the yard. He loves his treat dispensing toys and chewing on kongs. His favourite thing is cuddling and getting belly rubs from his humans.
Crae is a mix of two breeds that typically require an owner with some dog experience, and one that is comfortable handling a larger dog. His new family should also understand the importance of daily physical exercise and mental stimulation. True to his breeds, Crae is an active dog that needs an outlet for his energy. He would do best with an active family that can stick to a consistent routine of exercise and play for Crae.
In the house with people he knows, Crae is very friendly and loveable. He will ask for pets and belly rubs and is generally calm and easy going. He is calm when guests come into the home and will accept treats but takes a bit of time before he wants pets or cuddles. Once he knows you, he is very friendly and sticks close for pets and scritches.
On leash, Crae is content to meet people who approach respectfully. He tends to get very excited and pull quite a bit on the first part of the walk, but once he has done his business he will settle. He loves to sniff and explore, especially if he is in a new or unfamiliar place. He is also curious towards squirrels, rabbits, and other critters and will try to pull if something catches his interest. His fosters are working on proper leash etiquette with him, including “heel”, and Crae responds best when he is on a familiar route or if there are treats on offer.
Crae gets at least 3 walks a day, a longer one in the morning and evening, and a shorter one in the afternoon. He also gets time in the yard. Crae responds well to enrichment activities, training, and treat dispensing toys. He usually gets at least 15 minutes of enrichment or training a day. On days when his fosters are busier with work, Crae is perfectly content to hang by himself with a kong and will be calm until it is time to go out again.
Crae has been left alone in the home for up to four hours and has done very well, as long as he’s had a good walk beforehand. He is left to free roam the house and has never been destructive. He may whine for a few minutes when first left but will quickly settle down and is usually found lounging, sleeping, or playing with his kong. Crae likes to move around in the night and go between a few different sleeping spots. He may alert bark if there is unfamiliar activity outside so he is kept away from external windows and doors.
Crae has previously lived with children and would do fine with dog-savvy kids that will respect his space. He enjoys playing with human siblings but there should always be an adult present to ensure a safe interaction for both Crae and the kids. Crae loves to play with other dogs (and people!) at the dog park but can be selective of other dogs while on leash. He would do best as the only dog in the home, although he has previously lived with other dogs, it took him some time to warm up. He could live with other dogs with proper and slow introductions. If his future home had other dogs, a meet and greet would need to be arranged as part of the adoption process. Crae has not been cat tested but may chase.
Crae is super trainable and treat motivated. Training him is lots of fun. He responds very quickly for any reward. He knows sit, down, stay, come, roll over, paw, other paw, has good recall and is working on heel. Crae will need continued leash training. Crae is fully potty trained.
Crae’s ideal home would be one where he can get plenty of physical and mental stimulation every day. He loves being outdoors so a yard to hang out in or plenty of walks would be best for him. Crae reacts to unknown noises or movements outside the house so a quieter neighbourhood would be best. Crae seems to be anxious during car rides. He does best if one of his humans sits in the back with him, to offer reassurance / treats. Crae has lived with children and other dogs before and has enjoyed socializing in off leash dog parks, and could live with children or other dogs who are properly introduced and respect his space.
