Story
Blue is a five-year-old Husky who has come an incredible way since arriving in our care and now he's ready to find the people who will love him for the big, sweet, sometimes vocal boy he is. When Blue first came to us as an unclaimed stray, he was carrying a little too much weight and was understandably nervous about some of the things happening around him. During his initial triage, invasive handling and people standing over him made him uncomfortable. He also had an unfortunate altercation with a much smaller dog while he was loose and running excitedly toward the dog. The other dog sustained one small puncture wound. But Blue has shown us again and again that one difficult moment does not define him. Over the months, Blue has blossomed. He has shed some pounds, gained confidence, and let his wonderfully sweet personality shine through. He is friendly with everyone he has met and has become a favourite among our dog walkers and staff. Blue is a great leash walker and can be comfortably walked by volunteers at a Level 3. His walkers have described him as: Very food motivated, walked well, love this big guy. And: Really coming out of his shell, walks very well on leash, loves to be brushed and loves treats and takes them nicely. Blue is a big fan of treats and takes them nicely, and if there is one thing he might love almost as much as snacks, its being brushed! He absolutely enjoys it. He also loves getting pets and is now comfortable with staff standing over him — a huge improvement from when he first arrived. Blue has also made wonderful progress with handling. While he still prefers that his front legs not be handled excessively, he communicates this appropriately by simply pulling his leg away. Otherwise, he has demonstrated that he can be very comfortable with routine handling, including having his paws squeezed, his mouth touched, and hands run along his body. Because of his sensitivity around his front leg, his back leg is recommended for blood draws. And what about other dogs? We believe Blues original incident with the smaller dog was situational rather than representative of his overall behaviour with dogs. He was a large dog loose and excitedly approaching a much smaller dog, and we have seen a very different picture of him in controlled settings. Blue is regularly rotated with smaller dogs in the pen without issue. On one occasion, he was barking at a smaller dog, but when the other dog barked back, Blue immediately jumped back and stopped barking — a pretty good reminder that this big guy can be a little unsure of himself, too! More recently, Blue met a friendly female dog who was slightly smaller than him. He was very interested in sniffing her, and after their initial greetings, the two were able to walk side by side with relaxed bodies and open mouths. Blue is also starting to show more of his Husky personality as he becomes comfortable. He can be a little vocal, he is food motivated, and he has a sweet, charming presence that makes it very easy to fall for him. What kind of home is Blue looking for? Blue would love a home where his people will continue to build on all the progress he has made and appreciate him for the big, lovable Husky that he is. We recommend no other small dogs in the home and, because of his size and history, we do not recommend a home with small children. For the right family, Blue has so much to offer. He has already worked incredibly hard to come out of his shell, and now he deserves the chance to continue that journey in a home of his own. If you're looking for a big-hearted Husky who loves walks, treats, attention and a good brushing session, Blue might just be your guy. Story
Bingo / Female Spayed / 11 Months / Northern Mix / Dogs: Yes / Cats: Yes / Kids: Yes / Location: Burlington 📍 Bingo is ready to find her forever family! This sweet young girl is officially searching for a place to call home. Bingo became a mom while she was still just a puppy herself, and now it’s finally her turn to be spoiled, loved, and cherished. Don’t mind her scruffy hairdo! Much like humans, dogs can experience postpartum hair loss. We expect Bingo to fluff up a bit as she continues to recover from raising her puppies. Bingo is a playful, affectionate dog who loves toys, especially anything with a squeaker! She enjoys car rides, walks, adventures, and spending time with her people. Like any young dog, she’s full of energy and always ready for fun, whether that’s playing with her toys or wrestling with her canine friends. Because Bingo is an active girl, she would thrive in a home that can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and companionship. She loves being with her people and would do best with someone home often. Bingo walks beautifully on leash and is highly food motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training and learning new skills. She gets along wonderfully with dogs of all ages and sizes and can live with dog savvy cats. While she occasionally can’t resist a chase, she has no intention of harming them. Bingo came to us from Attawapiskat, where life is very different from what she experiences now. We don’t know everything she’s been through in her short life, so new people and situations can sometimes make her a little nervous at first. However, with patience and reassurance, she settles in nicely and quickly shows her sweet, loving nature. She is crate trained and does well when left alone, though she may protest briefly before settling down. At the end of the day, Bingo is truly a people dog who would be happiest simply spending her days by your side, whether you’re out exploring or relaxing at home. ❤️ If you’re looking for a loyal adventure buddy and best friend, Bingo may be the perfect match. AGE: 1 YearSEX: FemaleBREED: Northern MixENERGY LEVEL: MediumDOG FRIENDLY: Yep!CAT FRIENDLY?: UntestedKID FRIENDLY?: Likely!Meet Astral! This playful, affectionate, and very lovable girl absolutely adores her people. She gets attached quickly and loves following her humans around, being part of whatever is happening, and snuggling up on the couch. Astral is always ready to bring you a toy and start a game, especially if fetch is involved! She loves her daily walks and will often sit by the door waiting for her next adventure. She is also house trained and generally quiet indoors.Astral is friendly when meeting new people and does wonderfully with guests, happily sitting nearby to soak up attention and pets. She also enjoys playing with the dogs in her foster home and will often initiate play with them. On walks, she can become very excited when she sees other dogs, barking and pulling while wagging her tail. She will need continued training and support to learn calmer behaviours around other dogs. She also has prey drive on walks, so her adopter should be prepared to continue working with her on these skills. Despite her big reactions when excited, Astral is a very sweet and gentle girl who simply gets caught up in the moment.Astral sleeps comfortably in her crate overnight, although she does not enjoy being confined there when her people leave the house. Her foster has found that giving her a small, dog-proofed area while they are out works much better, and she has been doing well with this setup. She would love a family who enjoys long walks, playtime, and plenty of couch cuddles. Astral is a loyal, high-energy girl who wants to be involved in everything her people are doing, and she would be happiest with someone who loves an affectionate, playful companion by their side.Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Astral? Desi is a playful, affectionate, and very enthusiastic puppy who thinks everyone is his best friend. He is curious about absolutely everything and approaches life with the goofy, adventurous energy of Kevin from Up. Desi loves exploring, playing fetch with his tennis ball, tug-of-war, and getting into whatever fun thing he can find. He is also a big snuggler who loves curling up beside his people, giving kisses, or lying at their feet while they go about their day. He is very food motivated, smart, confident, and eager to learn, and already knows sit, down, paw, and stay.Desi is a very social puppy who loves meeting people and other dogs. He greets new people with lots of excitement and a constantly wagging tail, although he can become overstimulated and mouthy when he's especially excited. He is very playful with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a canine companion with a similarly playful energy and compatible play style. He has met a cat and was curious but calm and very gentle with them. Desi does have a strong interest in small animals and will chase them, although he is generally easy to redirect. He does well in a busy city environment and is confident out in the world, but can pull towards people, cyclists, or other things he finds interesting. Continued leash training will help him learn that he doesn't need to say hello to everyone he sees!Like any young puppy, Desi is still working on his manners and house training. He has lots of energy and needs plenty of mental and physical enrichment to keep his busy brain occupied, otherwise he can get into some puppy mischief, particularly chewing things he shouldn't. He is also learning impulse control and can be vocal when he doesn't get what he wants, but settles with patience and the right structure. He does well in the car and is making good progress with his crate training, especially when his needs have been met. Desi will need a patient family who is ready to continue guiding his enthusiastic puppy energy, but in return they'll get an incredibly loving, goofy, and fun little companion who is always ready for the next adventure.Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Desi? This sweet, happy girl has a quiet charm that makes everyone who meets her fall in love. She has a gentle way of asking for affection, often sitting in front of you with a big smile on her face while silently requesting pets. Keeta adores attention and will happily headbutt you for more love, roll onto her back for belly rubs, or wiggle around on the carpet to scratch an itch. While she enjoys her daily adventures and loves going wherever her people go, she's also wonderfully independent and is just as content napping across the room while you go about your day. Keeta loves her walks, enjoys watching squirrels from afar, and is a big fan of Dentastix, cheese, and other delightfully stinky treats.Keeta is house trained, does well when left home alone, and is an incredibly well-mannered companion. She's friendly when meeting new people and has calmly welcomed guests into the home. She currently lives with cats and coexists beautifully with them, generally ignoring one another as long as they respect her space and don't get too much in her face. Keeta is also dog friendly and has calm, neutral greetings with dogs on walks. She tends to prefer smaller dogs and appreciates companions who are polite and respectful. She's met children and done well with them, though she can become overwhelmed if lots of kids are all giving her attention at once. Keeta isn't bothered by traffic or city sounds and would likely adjust well to a busier neighbourhood. On walks, Keeta does have a prey drive and may try to chase after small animals. She generally enjoys two to three walks a day, typically lasting 15-30 minutes each, and her foster has noticed her energy and enthusiasm continuing to grow. Keeta is also a bit of a foodie - although a surprisingly picky one! She knows exactly what she likes and isn't afraid to turn her nose up at treats that don't meet her standards.Keeta is currently overweight and is working hard on her health journey. She is on a strict diet that will need to be maintained in her adoptive home, and her healthy weight is estimated to be around 50-55 pounds. As she continues reaching her goals, she's gaining even more energy and confidence each day. Keeta is a truly special dog with so much love to give, and whoever welcomes her into their family will be very lucky. With continued support and commitment to her health and wellbeing, Keeta is sure to thrive!Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Keeta? This incredible girl is as loyal as they come. Smart, affectionate, and endlessly devoted to her people, Misty forms deep bonds with those she trusts and loves nothing more than spending time by their side. Whether she's curled up for cuddles after an adventure or eagerly waiting for her next training session, Misty gives her whole heart to her people. She absolutely loves swimming and is a natural in the water - even happily launching herself off docks! Running is another one of her greatest joys, and she would make an incredible companion for someone who enjoys running, biking, canicross, or other active outdoor adventures. She's also incredibly food motivated, making training both fun and rewarding, and thrives when given a job to do and opportunities to use her brilliant mind.Misty is one of those dogs you'll never forget. She's hilariously clever, lightning fast, and somehow always seems one step ahead. She has the classic husky vocals, incredible athleticism, and an exceptional work ethic paired with a remarkably sensitive nature. She has the uncanny ability to squeeze through spaces you wouldn't think possible or clear a baby gate with ease. She loves to summersault into your arms, has never met a stuffy she didn't immediately want to shred, and is always finding new ways to make her people laugh. Her foster jokes that Misty thinks she's smarter than everyone else - and honestly, she might be right! She has an incredible memory and isn't above patiently plotting for days if she knows there are snacks hidden in the cupboard. Despite all of her brilliance and energy, she also has a wonderfully soft side, happily snoring away while napping on top of her favourite people. To know Misty is truly to love her.Misty has recently completed an intensive eight-week board and train program with Paws in Focus, where she made incredible progress and built a strong foundation of skills and confidence. She has learned valuable impulse control, handling skills, and how to navigate the world with trust and confidence. Misty is an exceptionally intelligent, driven dog who loves to learn and genuinely enjoys working alongside her person. She has rediscovered that people can be trusted and has blossomed into a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates the unique qualities of a working-breed dog. She is looking for a home that enjoys training, enrichment, and spending time together as a team.Misty is searching for an experienced home that understands the importance of structure, consistency, and continuing the training she's worked so hard to achieve. She would do best in a quieter, non-city environment where she has plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures and appropriate outlets for her energy. Because of her prey drive, she is not suited to a home with small animals. She would also do best in a home without young children and would ideally be the only dog, unless joining a home with someone who is extremely experienced in managing multiple high-drive dogs. Her adopters should be committed to continuing the balanced training approach that has helped her thrive and be willing to learn about canine body language and communication.Misty is truly a one-of-a-kind dog. She is faster, smarter, and more determined than most people will ever meet, and she's looking for someone who sees those traits as the incredible gifts they are. For the right person, Misty will be an unwavering partner, a loyal adventure companion, and a dog who will give you everything she has.
