Elsa is a 3.5 month old female Jack Russell terrier mix puppy who we think will be a small/medium sized adult. She has a beautiful white face and is cute as a button! Elsa was found with her 4 litter mates abandoned on a beach in La Paz, Baja California Sur at just 4 weeks old. A whole community of neighbors pitched in to care for the litter, socializing them and making sure they were fed, vaccinated and healthy. Since then, she has thrived in her foster home with her litter mates, and spends her days playing in her puppy pool, napping and playing keep away with her siblings. Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $500 Toby is a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier mix who came to DPS after his former home was no longer able to give him the attention and love he deserved. We accepted him with open arms and full hearts and showed this boy the best start to his second chance. He has spent some time decompressing in his foster home and is now ready to find a forever home of his very own!    Below is a note from Toby’s foster. “Toby is a textbook JRT and lovers of the breed won’t get better than this boy! He takes a bit of time to settle into his environment, but once he does, he is yours forever. Toby loves his foster mom and follows her around the house. He loves his daily walks and looks forward to them eagerly every day. Toby is so sweet and snuggly as well though. He loves to cuddle on the couch as we watch TV! The cutest thing about Toby? How he curls up under the covers at night. Toby is a sweet and happy dog who also loves to romp around and play with the best of them. Toby is fabulous at fetch (okay he is fabulous 80% of the time but we promised not to tell). Toby is also very smart and loves his brain toys, rooting around for a snack!  Toby wakes up at 7 AM and heads out for a quick potty break. He has breakfast and then settles in for a morning nap as we start our day. He spends his early afternoon exploring the backyard and gets another short walk. He has dinner at 6 PM and then gets a longer walk. At night, he hangs out with us while we watch TV before getting ready for bed. Toby sleeps through the night! Toby is fully house trained. He is fine in his crate but also happily snuggles into his dog beds placed around the house Toby adores playing with other dogs and would love a playmate in his new home, or a local community of dogs. He is very much a teenager in the sense that he loves to romp until he is ready for rest. Truly, what more could you ask for?  Toby is only an option for those who have owned a dog previously. We will be looking for a home who is ready to handle the love of the terrier breed. Children should be over the age of 10.April 24, 2024, 10:21 am

Story
Scout randomly showed up on my porch one day. I believe he might have been abandoned or escaped his original home. He showed up with a collar with no identifying information or microchip. We attempted to search for his owners and took him to our local shelter but no one claimed him. I was heartbroken leaving him at the shelter so I brought him back home with me. Unfortunately we cannot keep Scout long term because we have our hands full with a toddler and our other pets. We would really like to see Scout adopted into a loving home because he is such a sweet dog and does not have a mean bone in him at all. He is a complete lap dog who would love to lay next to you and be in the same room as you. Scout is around 2 years old or younger. He is so sweet, very trainable, eager to please, and crate trained. Great with kids, dogs, and cats. Feel free to contact me with questions!

Story
Meet Maddy! She's one adorable JRT mix around a year old . This beautiful girl wins over every single person who meets her, she is kind, gentle and a loving soul. Maddy loves other dogs and people so much. She’s crate trained and does well in the house. Maddy was diagnosed with a birth defect of her heart called pulmonic stenosis and sadly is a poor candidate for surgery. She is on heart medications for the rest of her life and the cardiologist said she could live between 1-5 years. We are looking for a forever foster (or open to adopter) for this beautiful girl … She can live a pretty normal life for whatever time she has here. We will cover costs of her medications and any other costs. We provide food, crate and all supplies.

Story
Thank you for your inquiry. Trigger has an adopter but we have to wait for them to go pick him up after the stay at home is lifted. Once he is picked up we will remove his profile. Please do not write to us for an application. Sorry for any inconvenience. Trigger is only 11 inches tall and 19 pounds. He has all the wonderful traits you expect in a Jack Russell Terrier. He is very affectionate. He is about 7 years old and a snuggle bug that lost his previous person to illness and is looking for his own person to worship. He loves to lie out in the sun and go in the garage to look for mice. He plays okay with other dogs of all sizes. He would love to be an only dog if his person was around a lot but he wouldn’t like being left alone for 8 hours a day without canine company. He is untested with cats. Trigger is ok with children over 7 years old. He loves giving and getting lots of attention. Adores treats, walks, car rides and cuddles. He is an active kind of guy, always looking for adventures in everyday life. He is a real character and is full of love for his people. He sleeps in his bed all night long though he really would prefer yours so he can cuddle with you. He is a very quiet and smart dog who understands what you are saying to him. Trigger really is a sweetie pie that needs a forever home with someone who will love him forever. Trigger is being fostered in San Francisco. His adoption fee is $275.00. Please contact us for more info or an application to adopt at dogzonerescue@yahoo.com Arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received.

Story
Ginny  is super sweet and playful, especially with other dogs. She's a little skittish at first and takes a little while to warm up, but once she's comfortable with you, she is sweet, a champion snuggler, and an all-around great companion. Energy Level?  Medium House trained?  Yes Describe how they are on a leash. Does well on a leash. Likes to stop and smell all the smells. Describe how they are with other dogs?   Ginny  LOVES to play with all her foster fur siblings! She'll also snuggle up with them once they're all tuckered out. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they?  Unknown Commands they know?  She comes when called.  What are their favorite things?  Playing with other dogs, chewing on toys and treats, and snuggling with her people. She also enjoys being outside and exploring our backyard. What do they need to work on?   Ginny  is still learning what's okay and not okay to chew. She'll need lots of toys that are safe for chewing and some patience and understanding while she figures it out.  How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone?  She has been alone for up to 8 hours and has been okay. She may howl briefly as we leave but then quiets down. She is generally happy in her crate and has a good view of all her foster fur siblings. Where do they sleep?  In a small crate in our bedroom. She sleeps well through the night and enjoys a morning snuggle in our bed when there's time. What is their ideal home?   Ginny 's perfect home includes at least one other similarly-sized dog because doggy playtime is her favorite thing. She'll need a family who can give her some time and space to get comfortable, as she can be pretty skittish initially. She'll also need patience as she learns what's okay to chew and what's not. Once she's comfortable with you and all settled in, she is an excellent companion and will reward you with epic snuggles and much love. Ginny likes kids and has done well with her foster siblings (ages 3-8), but she may also need some patience in learning appropriate playtime behaviors with them. April 11, 2024, 5:29 pm
