Story
Bo Location: San Carlos, CA Male DOB 11-7-2019 Bo is available for fostering or adoption. He gets along well with other dogs, especially females. Due to an attack by a large dog when he was a puppy, Bo is initially cautious when meeting new dogs. Bo is well-mannered and enjoys being indoors with access to a yard. He has experience hunting vermin and isn't afraid to use his voice! Unfortunately, his owner is no longer able to care for him due to the passing of one owner and the other's need to care for two others in their 90s, which requires a lot of travel. This has left Bo alone for extended periods. If you're interested in offering Bo a loving home, please apply at https://jackrussellrescueca.org/adopt/. If you have additional questions please email jrussellrescueca@gmail.com or complete an inquiry form online.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $650   Picnic is a 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier x Beagle mix who’s ready to open up the basket of life and choose the tastiest treat! Picnic was rescued from the shelter after being left behind at the local park and we scooped this 11 pound pint of adorableness promising nothing but love in her future! Picnic is a low rider so if you’re ready for a loyal and loving companion who keeps things cool as a cucumber, adopt her today!    Picnic is a loving and curious gal who can’t wait to explore the world outside her door! When she first arrived at her foster home she was a bit shy, but we soon saw her amazing personality blossom as she made herself comfortable. She loves keeping her humans company and is always down for a snuggle but she can also keep herself busy when she needs to. She loves snack time and is frequently found chomping down on an apple or a banana slice when her humans head to the kitchen. Picnic is a total lounger and she loves her stuffed toys which she uses as pillows when she snoozes. She is still figuring out how to “dog” but she is making great progress every day! She also loves her adventures though and is happy to trot by your side for miles at a time. Picnic would thrive in an environment where she can spend her days with her humans as she shows them love. She would be a fabulous coworker for someone who works from home or someone who can take a companion to the office with them. Picnic can’t wait to unwrap her new chapter and chow down with you!  Picnic starts her morning at 6 AM with a potty break followed by some snuggles. She goes out for her morning walk and then happily returns home for her breakfast with her humans. During the workday, she keeps her humans company from her soft dog bed, taking occasional breaks for romps in the yard or potty breaks. She rests for the remainder of the day and then has her dinner at 5 PM before her evening stroll. At 9 PM she goes out for one last potty and then she puts on her jammies and heads to bed! Picnic has lived with dogs previously and does well with calm energy. She would prefer a quieter adult only home, or a home with older kids. Picnic walks well on a leash and is completely house trained. Picnic is excited for a lifetime of adventures and snacks so come on down and meet our gal! April 23, 2025, 4:53 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $650Whiz Kid, 3 year old: The 23lb Wonder of Wags and Whimsy! Routine: Whiz Kid’s day starts at the crack of dawn, around 6:30 AM, when he’s already plotting his next adventure (probably involving food). First stop: the barn for horse feed. Then it's back home for breakfast with the dogs, followed by a half-hour neighborhood walk. After that, he works hard (well, not really) keeping the yard safe while his foster parent works in their office. Midday is all about playtime, chew toys, and a well-deserved nap before getting back to work. By 5 PM, he’s ready for his second neighborhood walk, dinner, and a comfy spot to enjoy All Creatures Great and Small (he’s a bit of a TV critic when it comes to dog cameos). By 10 PM, it’s last bathroom break and bedtime for this sweet snoozer. Personality: Whiz Kid is a snuggly, friendly ball of energy. He showed up like he was already part of the family, jumping into cuddles, playtime, and daily routines. He's like the doggy version of a personal assistant who never lets you out of his sight (he’s very much a velcro pup). Whether it’s under the covers, on the couch, or following you to the bathroom, he’s all in—though he’s also totally fine with solo play or naps while you work. Win-win! Other Pets: Whiz Kid is a social butterfly who loves his canine companions. He follows the other dog around like a sidekick, keeping watch over the yard together. He’s good with off-leash dogs, but can be a little dramatic when on a leash (bikes and strangers beware). He knows the cat’s boundaries and tries to resist the temptation to chase her when she pulls a sneak attack. As for kids, he’s still waiting to make those connections, but he’s ready to meet them with his best puppy manners! Playfulness & Energy: Whiz Kid is all about action. Balls? Tug toys? A walk that could last all day? He’s in! But once he’s gotten his fill of fun, he’s more than happy to turn into a snuggle bug and nap on the couch (or in your basket, if you’re not careful). He’s got that perfect balance of playful and laid-back. Walks & Leash Manners: Leash reactivity is his quirky superpower—if he sees a dog, person, or anything that moves, he’s gotta bark first and ask questions later. He’s still a work in progress with that, but in more enclosed areas, he’s got a great recall. Squirrels? Meh, not interested in chasing them (unless they’re on TV). Housetraining: Whiz Kid’s potty game is on point! He’s house-trained, can use a doggy door, and only had one accident when he first arrived (which is basically a win in our book). As for crate training, he’s not a fan, but he’s made it clear he prefers free reign when the house is empty. Behavioral Quirks: Whiz Kid is a master of mischief! He’s a bit of a trash enthusiast and has been known to rummage through the bins even when you’re standing right there (he's that sneaky). He’s also got a thing for counter-surfing, so make sure everything’s safely out of reach. Oh, and don’t leave windows unlocked—this little escape artist once managed to pop open a first-floor window just to join the family outside. Who needs a doggy door when you have that kind of ingenuity? Ideal Home: Whiz Kid would thrive in an active home with plenty of room for adventure and a buddy (another dog would be a huge bonus). He’s got loads of energy to burn and would love a home where he can be part of a pack. A little structure with lots of playtime and snuggles is exactly what this kid needs. Why Adopt Whiz Kid: Whiz Kid is a sweet, spirited dog who will keep you entertained with his antics and keep your heart full with his love. He’s an ideal activity partner who’s always ready for a walk, a game of fetch, or a snuggle session on the couch. His joyful, lively nature makes him an amazing addition to any home. Favorite Thing: Whiz Kid is a little like a cat when it comes to his lounging habits. You’ll find him in the most unexpected places, like perched in a basket or on top of a table, napping like he owns the place. He’s got a great sense of humor (and excellent taste in nap spots). Whiz Kid is ready to charm his way into your heart—and maybe even into your basket! April 29, 2025, 5:23 am

Story
Cleo is a one-eyed wonder and has completely forgotten about losing an eye in a dog attack.  Agile and athletic, Cleo is a 12 lb., 2 yr-old Terrier mix and displays Terrier behavior such as loving to play with toys, loving to go for long walks and is inquisitive about anything new in her world. Cleo came from a situation where she was under-socialized and displays fearful behavior. We are working on behavior training and she is becoming much calmer.  Little Cleo is potty trained with regular potty breaks.   Due to her young age and training, Cleo will age into a proper little companion. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Cleo is $300. If you are interested in adopting Cleo, please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. Story
Bugsy is a great buddy to have around. He is about 18 lbs and around 6- 7 years old. He enjoys going on walks and loves to wander around in the yard in his wheels or scooting along, play with his toys, happy all snuggled up with his people, and just hanging around. Bugsy loves the toys at his foster home and doesn’t mind sharing them. He is the sweetest and most loving guy you will ever meet. He has been around all sizes and breeds of dogs and gets along great with them He enjoys the company of other dogs but he would be just as happy to be an only dog if his person was around most of the time to keep him company. If not then he needs a canine companion for company. Bugsy is very affectionate but doesn’t require a ton of attention to be content.  He is pretty low-maintenance and will happily follow your lead. Bugsy doesn’t use his back legs but do not be fooled since he is still an active guy and can go many places with his wheels or rear harness. He is very good around young kids and lives with one now. Bugsy is exceptionally loving and eager to please. He knows what he is being told and if you are looking for a smarty to be part of your family he is the guy. He will bring lots of warmth and terrier-silliness to your home. Give him a chance and he will steal your heart. Bugsy also needs a new foster home if not adopted. He is now being fostered in Belmont, CA and his adoption fee is $275. Arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received. Please contact us at dogzonerescue@yahoo.com for more information about this great guy or for an application to adopt.
