Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $700 Meet Houdini!   When our volunteer first saw Houdini at the shelter, she thought the kennel was empty— until she noticed a round dog bed move ever so slightly. Curious, she gently touched the bed and poof!— out popped a tiny, scared pup who had been hiding inside. He may have been frightened, but the moment she picked him up, Houdini melted into her arms. On the ride home, true to his name, he magically escaped his crate and wiggled his way to the front seat… because clearly, the best place to ride is on your rescuer’s lap.   Houdini is a 3-4 month old Jack Russell-Chihuahua type mix, weighing in at just a handful of pounds but packing a whole lot of heart. When he first arrived in his foster home, he was shy and wary of people— his past hasn’t been easy. But slowly, with patience, safety, and the help of his foster dog sibling (Gemini), he’s learning to trust.   Houdini’s daily life is a sweet balance of porch lounging, couch cuddling, and energetic playtime with his doggie friends (and sometimes his foster family’s three young kids, who adore him). He is still most comfortable around other dogs— he loves dogs of all sizes and is happiest following them around and joining in the fun. People? He’s getting there. He might run for cover when you approach, but once you scoop him up, he settles right in for pets and snuggles. He’s a champion couch buddy who will curl up next to you or in your lap once the busy part of the day is done.   Houdini is working on potty training (he uses pee pads in his pen at night) and hasn’t started leash walks just yet because he's not quite done with vaccines. He’s not much of a barker unless he’s playing, and while he’s fond of chewing the occasional stuffed toy to bits (puppy life!), he’s not a digger or a troublemaker.   The perfect home for Houdini is one with another friendly dog who can show him the ropes and help him continue to come out of his shell. He’ll need a patient family who understands that love and trust take time— and that the most rewarding moments come when you see a once-scared pup light up with joy.   Our favorite thing about Houdini? Watching him dart happily through the yard, convincing his once “velcro” foster sibling that playing under bushes is the best thing ever. He’s a little magician, alright—he’ll sneak right into your heart before you even know what happened.  July 7, 2025, 3:41 pm

Story
Rocky was a gift to my girlfriend from her friends mom, she had puppies and couldnt take care of them. We are looking for a home for Rocky since we have a busy schedule and cant give him the attention he needs like going on walks daily. He is the friendliest dog I ever met, he has never tried biting us or barked at us or anyone he comes in contact with, he is frightened by other dogs big or small but gets comfortable if given the time. He is 6 months old and have only heard him bark through a camera when we leave him alone to go to work. He is extremely happy to see us come back but is left alone for over 8 hours. He got his first rabies shot but needs to go back for his second shot I believe. He also has a microchip. He is a small breed and will not grow too much, he weighs around 15lbs.

Story
Bo Location: San Carlos, CA Male DOB 11-7-2019 Bo is available for fostering or adoption. He gets along well with other dogs, especially females. Due to an attack by a large dog when he was a puppy, Bo is initially cautious when meeting new dogs. Bo is well-mannered and enjoys being indoors with access to a yard. He has experience hunting vermin and isn't afraid to use his voice! Unfortunately, his owner is no longer able to care for him due to the passing of one owner and the other's need to care for two others in their 90s, which requires a lot of travel. This has left Bo alone for extended periods. If you're interested in offering Bo a loving home, please apply at https://jackrussellrescueca.org/adopt/. If you have additional questions please email jrussellrescueca@gmail.com or complete an inquiry form online.

Story
Meet Snoopy, he was born in October 2024. He is a very energetic puppy that still needs basic obedience training as he can be mouthy. He is house broken and up to date on vaccines, we can provide all the vet records. He is fixed. Our situation has changed with the landlord and we are unable to provide the care that he deserves. He has socialized with people just fine but have not had much interaction with other dogs besides barking at the one on the other side of the fence. He needs lots of room to run around and burn off energy so he will not do well in an apartment. He loves to cuddle with his humans and give lots of kisses. He is starting to get the hang of fetch and loves chasing the laser pointer across the yard at night. Any questions please ask, he needs to be rehomed ASAP as the landlord has been very clear that dogs are not allowed.

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, June 28th from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.     Adoption fee: $650 Meet Valor 1–2 year old Border Terrier mix | 28 lbs | Gentle soul with a growing heart   Valor’s name says it all— he’s brave, even if he doesn’t know it yet. Rescued from a crowded shelter where he was at risk simply for being shy, this sweet, sensitive boy has been slowly learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and at home. And now, he’s ready to find a forever family who will be patient, kind, and lucky enough to watch him continue to bloom.   Valor is the kind of dog who makes a quiet entrance, but leaves a lasting impression. When he first arrived at his foster home, he didn’t know much about how to “be a dog”—but with a little help from his doggy foster sibling, he’s made huge strides. He’s picked up how to use a doggy door, learned the joys of playtime, and discovered the best place to be is on the couch with a soft blanket and a warm human by his side.   Mornings start around 7am, when Valor heads straight outside for a potty break. He’s mostly housetrained, and when he has access to the dog door, accidents are rare. He sleeps through the night in his crate but would love nothing more than to curl up next to you instead. He’s free-fed throughout the day and isn’t food-motivated or food aggressive— just appreciative. In the afternoons or evenings, he enjoys a nice walk. While getting the leash on is still a bit of a process (treats and patience required), once he's outside, he walks beautifully and politely greets every dog he meets.   Valor is a bit of a chameleon— he can be playful and bouncy in the yard one minute, then a total couch potato the next. He adjusts to the vibe of the home and is just as happy relaxing as he is romping around. He enjoys chew toys (especially bully sticks) and, like many dogs, occasionally mistakes slippers for treasure. But he’s not destructive, just curious.   Socially, he’s still finding his footing. Valor is afraid of the resident cat, who wants to play with him!, and avoids him entirely. He’s also a little wary around men and benefits from slow, gentle introductions. When he’s unsure, a soft word is all it takes— he's sensitive and deeply wants to please. Once he trusts you, he’s an affectionate shadow who will follow you everywhere (yes, even into the bathroom). He’ll offer kisses, curl into your lap, and melt into every snuggle.   Valor’s ideal home is a quiet, patient one with another friendly dog to show him the ropes. He’s learning more every day, and with the right guidance, he’ll continue to grow into a confident, loyal companion.   Why adopt Valor? Because he’s a dog who will love you with everything he has. His journey hasn’t been easy, but he’s still choosing trust, joy, and connection. And while he may take a little time to come out of his shell, what’s waiting on the other side is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of bond.   Valor is more than ready to find his person—and he just might be waiting for you.  June 23, 2025, 2:08 pm
